Why is BTC reduced or desensitized on a Ford Everest front wheels when the rear lockers are engaged ? Is there a mechanical reason, and how does this happen?

Would the brake traction control be more effective with lower throttle input? I thought the twin locked throttle input was the sort of amount required for any of the tests here.
@L2SFBC
@L2SFBC 4 жыл бұрын
No, the reverse is true. Greater throttle input means more difference in wheel speed left/right, so the computers brake the spinning wheel harder, generating more torque on the wheel that's got traction. Older systems needed a lot of throttle to wake up, newer ones are much better.

i have seen lot of discussions about evrest with front lockers busting their CV or the axle coz of the locker , is that true and is there a solution to that ??
@L2SFBC
@L2SFBC 4 жыл бұрын
Yes it's true, because significantly more torque can be put through the wheel than before. The solution...upgrade CVs, and be careful with when and how you apply the throttle when the front locker is engaged. Keep the wheels straight, minimal throttle, minimal wheelspin, smooth control inputs, and engage rear locker too.

How are Jeeps in comparison to Land Rovers? Grand Cherokee wasn't great on that hill I guess. Only seen a couple of seconds of it in another video of yours. The one with Discos. I would expect better and was surprised really.

Hi Robert, thanks for you great videos here and your books too. You mention in this video and in others that the Everest’s brake traction control is not the best. In your opinion is this something that Ford could improve via a software update, or is it a limitation of the mechanical system? While I’d love to fit a front locker to my Everest, it would be nice to spend the money elsewhere!
@L2SFBC

@felipebutcher
@felipebutcher Жыл бұрын
@jaegerrenn-jones2966 the software can be improved but it won't get better than a diff lock. so kind of yes it has a mechanical limitation. in a traction control system, a wheel must loose traction before it gets activated, not matter how fast is the tc system. diff lock by the other hand will work before one of the two wheels of an axle looses traction

Rob, you deserve a knighthood. Every single one of your videos have been brilliant. One can only assume you're doing this because of all the fluff going making it around the "DVDs" and forums... I do have one challenging question... Why the Ranger for a personal vehicle? Also, I heard I pod cast once with you talking about vehicle myths and about tyre "width". I'm a firm believer in skinny tyres (more so for soft sand). I've read a number of books on teramechamics and can attest the calculations prove the experience. I just think your hill of truth showing traction control and theory on snatch blocks is good enough... I was a little upset with one of your last videos having to "prove science to a potato" about "creating weight". All the best to you mate, please keep the good content running.

Thank you Michael, I really appreciate the comment, keeps me going! Ranger for a personal vehicle - I'm actually going to cover that soon as I'm looking to change, and the "why a ute" will be part of that story. Skinny tyres - yes, I'm a fan for offroading. My terramechanics books (Wong et al) say the same. But, I cannot think of a good explanation/demonstration which proves the point. Would like to hear ideas. You may think it's good enough, but I can tell you - every single time I've taught winching or talked on the subject, someone ALWAYS challenges me on that point. So, I began to literally carry out weights and scales, and then there were no more arguments. And re fluff. Yes. I don't watch any of it. I don't do hyped enthusiasm, I just focus on content. I probably will never do a trip video, plenty of others out there getting over excited in front of GoPros. Not my thing, I have my little space and I'm happy there. I'm also planning to do some serious research...watch this space Thanks again!

@@L2SFBC I live in a country where vehicle mods are basically illegal so we are forced to make the best out of the tech that ships with your vehicle. That sometimes pushes my ranger to it's limits but it yet to fail me. I find a good set of tires and picking a good line can go a long way
