I relate to the weirdness, awkwardness, emptiness, and darkness as well my brother! And for them to have the balls to experiment like this in 67’ is crazy

What a lot of you young listeners don’t realize is Jim Morrison was a product of the Beat generation and his poetry reflects that production in the songs of the Doors.Look up Beat Generation.

I personally believe Ray Manzarek created more sounds with less equipment than anyone before or after him.
@L33Reacts3 ай бұрын
Ray is an absolutely monumental figure that deserves WAY more recognition than he gets for the success of this band. Jim is the prototype for the rock lead singer to come (just like Roger from the who but the flip side of him) and was a great front man but ray and Robbie contribute so much to this band

@@L33Reacts I agree, these 4 came together and meshed perfectly at just the right time. And don't leave out Bruce Botnick, their longtime engineer, he was extremely instrumental in their sound.

Horse latitudes is actually a place on the map. Sailor's on sailing vessels would throw horse's overboard to conserve water. Sucks to be a horse on that ship!

@billhawkins1236 Yeah would have to suck to be a sailor,too. Becalmed with no hope. You never hear of the doldrums as an adjective between depression and desperation, but I love the word. Ps at least we got the wild horses on the barrier islands off Va & NC out of it.

The "Horse Latitudes" are an area of the oceans between the tropics and the equator. It's where the winds are relatively calm, and if a sailing ship gets stuck there, their journey will usually take much longer. If the ship got stuck in the Horse Latitudes and they couldn't get enough wind to move it, they would throw the horses overboard to conserve water.

The force of his voice which Morrison uses in the last verse of Horses Latitudes always burned in my mind, a noble creature terrified, and then resigned to its fate. Awkward instant And the first animal is jettisoned Legs furiously pumping Their stiff green gallop And heads bob up Poise Delicate Pause Consent In mute nostril agony Carefully refined And sealed over

Yes, there is more then meets the eye with this band. One thing I think you should know is, that Manzarek is playing the bass on a keyboard and doing the organ live, not this track, but in general. He’s a two-handed player. I know there were some bass players brought in minimally maybe towards the end I think, But Ray is an evil genius.😂❤ if I’m wrong, don’t scold me I’m 54 years old. All I know is that Ray Manzarek can do a baseline with one hand and a melody and a lead with the other hand. That’s all I’m trying to say. I can’t do that. That’s why I was only ever gonna be half a musician.😢

jan van impe i apologize, i continue to talk about that live version(by the way , i'm from Belgian, so my english is not perfect) .But last week i met a 22year old girl who happened to like "when the music's is over".Great,i replied, you should check out a 22 minute version on you tube it's from the live album "live at the civic Arena,Pittsburgh,PA. May 2,1970 a few days later i saw her again and she said "what were you talking about !! 22 minutes ? it's only 16 minutes ! the big mistake she made was that she only looked up the title of the song (on youtube) and not the name of the live album the setlist says part 10 "when..." 16' 54" okay ,but the song CONTINUES during parts 11 (break on through), 12(pushpush) and 12 (the soft parade vamp) and there you have the 22 minute version ! INCLUDING 3 minutes of jim's animal screaming .Stupid? not at all !!.He was explaining exactly what happens when there's no more music, no more live, no more meaning , no more words to express yourselve so ; the end (another song from the doors ?)

jan van impe very happy that you want to do a live version of "when the music's over" .But as i allready suggested during your reaction on "strange days" (look it up again), the best performance (22 minutes !!) is from the live album Boston 1970 trust me, as a diehard fan i listened to every (bootleg) live album you can find !

I was always strange (still am). When I found this album at 16, I began the journey to self acceptance. Took me years, and getting into and back out of drugs,to actually love the fact that I'm different. Unfortunate that so many people get caught in that same trap. I hope the recent trend towards normalizing mental health issues and treatment helps people at a younger age. Alcohol is never the answer.
