Doesn't sound like sniping that was made harder. But quick scoping. Which I'm fine with. It doesn't take a whole lot of skill to use and is almost OP. It's a sniper rifle. Your suppose to be stationary and taking your shots carefully. Not running around the map popping off a shot every 3 seconds. And I'm very glad they got rid of Stopping Power. That was one of the stupidest perks around. "Oh you can't aim? Well slap stopping power on and its a 1 hit kill anywhere." Now you have to actually aim.

I use Steady Aim. I've been told that when you first zoom in, the snipers still are affected by hipfire for some reason. I'm not sure if it's true, but it feels like it's helping. In the very least, it's nice when running with dual Pythons.

Treyarch intentionally tried to nerf quickscoping since people were complaining about how broken it was during MW2 with the Intervention and Slight of Hand. Honestly, Snipers don't belong in any of these games because nearly every single map in the game is too small. The fact that a One Shot Kill weapon designed for Long Range combat can simply kill people who use weapons that take 3-6 shots to kill, relatively close is pretty much bullshit.

You don't see people in your face in the army just barely aiming in do you, you are quickscopers, not snipers. I only quickscope if I don't have enough time to switch guns or knife. @Garghoul30 I can understand arguments going either way. The main thing that sticks out to me was how stopping power kept cold-blooded in check. One of the reasons I hated hardcore in MW2 was because everyone used cold-blooded and to an extent that "mentality" did make it into black ops.

The PSG1 is a pretty good since I believe it did get a buff to the same multipliers as the L96A1. In short: It is an semi-auto L96A1 with more overall bullets to use for sniping, I think it has a lower recoil as well but I have not compared them.

What was wrong with removing Stopping Power? The only reliable counter to Stopping Power in most situations was using Stopping Power yourself. And thus everyone's back to square one, but without the fun of getting to try out the other red perks. I'm so happy it's gone, and that I can mix up my red perk selection a lot more.

The IR is annoying since you have to base your kills on a small dot instead of the crossair... That could just be me of course.... I hardly use the Variable Scope on this gun because... well... it looks ugly on it... I like good looking guns... go figure... That shows how pro I am though! L96 is my favorite gun based on BO stats.

PSG FTW! Seriously it's better than the L96 considering you get a OHK in generally the same places. I might be wrong but that's from my experience. I still use the L96 for nostalgic purposes with the bolt action but the PSG is better :)

I like sniping in this game. CoD 4 and MW2 was way to easy. MW3 i NEVER sniper because the maps are all small. But in Black Ops it's actually a challenge, and i like a challenge.

I believe Treyarch killed sniping because of all of the OpTic fanboys, yesterday I hoped into a lobby where they had a few people trying to get some crazy quick sope kills. It was terrible, great review though!

I think your "crosshair problem" has to do with the WaW engine, which this game uses, if an enemy is moving, the hitbox is in front of them. Hope this helps.

For me, Extended Mags is the best on the L96. Your other options are alternative scopes and the awful Suppressor. If you can use the default scope fine, this is literally the only attachment worth noting. Each scope has its flaws: you can't steady the ACOG, the IR Scope doesn't detect Ghost Pro users (you can see a silhouette of them sometimes but that's it), and the more aggressive quickscoper will find little use for the Variable Zoom unless they set it to the low zoom and don't change it. If you plan on using the L96 more commonly, it's quite the help to not reload as often, and I personally recommend Extended Mags.

Yeah, but the damage had been the same for 3 straight games. It wasn't until MW3 that the damage differed between sniper rifles. Until then, the damage had ALWAYS been 70 un-silenced and 50 silenced. CoD 4 and MW2 both had Stopping Power, which made the snipers even stronger, but without Stopping Power, the body multipliers and basic damage need to be tweaked from gun to gun. Blops1 didn't tweak ANYTHING so the snipers weren't as effective as before.

That doesn't matter, since the Tac-45 and L96 aren't even in the same game... Besides, the L96 still has those damage multipliers, so it actually does more than 50 damage more than 50% of the time. Besides, the sniper rifles exist purely for the 1-shot kills at range, which the Silencer removes. If Stopping Power existed in Blops1, then the Silencer would be a better attachment, but as it is, there's no point in using it.

Amish, the thing is sniping can be really fun and really good if you know how. Here are a few tips: don't move your feet while shooting, in black ops if you do the bullet will likely miss,if you are stationary when you shoot you will hit most of the time if the connection allows it. Also you can quickscope and do well with a sniper, it just takes a lot of practice, check out BTR SlowBurns montages and see. hope you see this, i know this game is old and it doesn't matter but i love to snipe in BO

sniping is always fun for me. If it gets nerfed that just another challenge to conquer. But the CoD where I had the MOST fun sniper was either MW2 with the Barrett 50 cal. and the M21 EBR (no modded controller, no acog scope) or WaW with the PTRS, Mosin Nagant, and the Springfield( with sniper scopes on all) but probably more fun in WaW because I really don't like QSing in MW2 or any CoD and I love WWII games

can't agree with you on this review... i play domination a lot and i snipe often. if you just take your time to find some good spots you can snipe on a lot of maps... WMD is awesome for sniping, radiation is decent, array is AWESOME, when you spawn at C you can even snipe in nuketown. people just have to know snipers aren't there to run arround, you are supposed to sit back and just defend the objectives.

So according to you snipers suck because they can't be used as a shotgun? I think eliminating quickscoping is the best thing treyarch did, shotguns can't be used at range so snipers shouldn't get the easy way out at close range. This is what I like to call balance, shotguns for close range and snipers for far, shotguns bypass second chance and snipers can have dual pistols for close range so it's fair.

I think that Treyarch wasted their chance to balance snipers. They just went way to far. I like the idea they had where you aim doesn't go to the center of the screen, but insted a little to a random side. This would he hard, sure, but I HATE that after zooming in, you aim jerks around. A little randomnes of aiming down the sight would make sence, but why the hell can't he hold the gun still, when he can do so just fine with every other weapon? Hope they don't do this in Black Ops 2.

I HATE SNIPING IN THIS GAME, it's hard to snipe in this game not because you need skill but because it has retarded hit detection. You aim at the guy and it won't get him, but if another sniper doesn't even get close to you, he kills you, I just hate it.Oh yeah, it's only one map where it's useful, ARRAY, and I hate ARRAY. First Flack jacket prevents you from getting tubed or rocketed out of cover if you do miss a shot or are detected otherwise, second silent sniping can get 1hko's in this while having ghost on, and third and most inportant second chance pro, go down? have a teamate revive you. I hate to disagree with you Amish, however I have found that Flak Jacket works marvels as a sniper. With the very CQC maps flak jacket allows you to survive those normally fatal grenades that everyone likes to chuck towards the sniper's last known location. I also like Gasmask pro as it allows you to survive those pesky stun and flash grenades. Then again, I am a very campy sniper, favoring windows to wide open spaces so this makes more sense for my play style.

I do love sniping in games cause there is the thrill of the hunt and using a keen eye to pick targets. But I hate it when quick scopers think they are hot stuff I just started playing with the sniper rifles in MW2 and tried quick scoping I found it so easy it was laughable how many quick scope or no scope headshots i got, to the point where I even messaged some people telling them that I got lucky, but then again lucky is spelled a-u-t-o-a-i-m

I loved sniping. Black Ops made me hate sniping in it. I never quickscoped. I zoomed in but I never fired until I was positive that my target was in the center of my scope. After using the Intervention a lot, it turned into semi-quickscoping from medium range and quickscoping from close range (if you didn't have a secondary out) is basically necessary if you do not want to die and it's easy from up close anyway. Bring back CoD4 sniping or MW2 w/o SoH Pro sniping as I Marathon Sniped quite a lot.

I personally do not quick scope or snipe much in general, but I really never saw the big deal about Quick scoping in the first place. For every one time a quick scoper manages to kill you more than likely they have failed the last 3 or 4 times. Rarely do you run into somebody who is actually somewhat decent at it. The problem was that the fan base blew the problem out of proportion and Treyarch basically killed sniping in the first place. At least they are slowly un-nerfing it.

treyarch does have a good reason for killing quick scoping in black ops; during the closed beta, a TON of montage makers managed to get their hands on beta codes somehow, and all of them were trying to get good clips, each in the hopes of making the first black ops montage. when the developers at treyarch saw a bunch of morons twirling off of shit and trying to no scope things across the map, they made the decision that they did not want a ton of people doing this in the game when it released.

I dissagree about Scout's base effect, I have lot count of how many times the extra hold breath time has helped with 3 or more targets to take down at long range, holding your breath for multiple targets in a row in quick sucession will cause the 4 seconds to run out at really inconvenient times. It can also be helpfull whem you miss the first shot and the enemy decided to take cover hoping you go away with 10 seconds to hold your breath you can be ready for their return.

They decide to kill quickscoping in a game with a near CQC-exclusive map selection. I personally don't enjoy quickscoping. But it's kinda important in Black Ops since almost every map, DLC or otherwise, isn't big enough to take advantage of the rifle's range. It just seems contradictory and hypocritical to me.

there in theory terms there are now quickscoping due to the fact when you scope your aim goes to a random point, so you have to slow aim, and take aim, the next thing better to this is using them with an acog scope, which is something that should speed up a bit, but just a bit, and not a perk like mw2 and mw3, that almost glitching

First of all, quick scoping isnt sniping, they are two different things, one takes skill, one takes luck, snipers arent supposed to be used up close, even if they are good and will kill, snipers are supposed to be in a tower of some kind or window to find your target at long range and kill them fast. MW3 has no places like this kill people, except in the new dlc, thank God.

I have a total different perspective of sniping. The only reason snipings easy in mw3 is because guns kill almost instantly and in the close combat maps, snipers need to be able to ads at .2 seconds so the can even be an option. Bring mw3 sniping to blops and thatd be overpowerd as fuck

WTF You have quickscoping-there is no way, no way whatsoever that sniping in MW3 is worse than Black Ops. CoD players hardly camp with snipers and in MW3, most snipers are aggressive. Considering the one shot kill, they can beat an smg or even a shotgun in close combat.

I don't see how removing stopping power was a problem, this way you have more freedom with your perks, whereas stopping power would again, dominate the perk slot. Also, this makes sure guns are balanced, because anybody who is using SP would be at a great advantage over someone who isn't using it.

The one thing that pissed me off the most with BF3 sniping wasn't the bullet drop, it wasn't even the damage profile. It was the only headshots kill in one shot. It really pissed me off, now they did patch it so a chest shot will kill...up close.

When talking about Call Of Duty, the only way I see snipers challenging is by quick scoping. Over "long" ranges, there's no bullet drop or travel time at all. Seems a bit over powered if you have a good vantage point.

Thats the thing, Mw3 makes everything so EASY, i played mw3 for one match and sniped and i quickscoped all the time goz it was so Easy. Black ops is better for sniping gos it takes a LITTLE bit more of skill than Mw3.

I don't know if you said this or not, but I'm gonna point out that using Scout Pro is a really good idea with a sniper so you can pick up a different weapon and run around with a sniper and an SMG or something

The only thing they should have changed is make the snipers non-SOH compatible, which they did. I'm glad they killed reliable quickscoping. Shotguns and most SMGs have problems as it is, the game doesn't need sniper shotties.
