Here it is. The big one. The gun that has been a frustration from day one. It's so strange to get here and find out it just got nerfed, so the question is, did the nerf actually do anything? You'll have to watch to find out!

The only thing that is important between a 35-25 damage AR and a 40-30 damage AR is that you don't get the headshot bonus up close with the 35-25 damage AR, it will still take 3 shots to kill but at long range it get's the bonus

I would be more concerned about the MSMC. The Vector is good and only for balance, the Vector always had low damage when it actually fires the .45 ACP round. But, as a Vector fan i am happy to see it return

Every time I'm about to get a chopper gunner, I always die to the MLG fuckface using this somewhat OP weapon. I wish they made the magazine capacity only 25 rounds. This gun should be unlocked after the G11 because any newbie could spray away with this gun and get plenty of killstreaks.

Amish, you forgot one thing. Go prone with the Famas. The hipfire actually increases when you do, putting it somewhere between crouching and standing. This was another nerf to make it less effective when drop shotting.

The Famas nerf was good overall. It knocked the gun down a peg, but the core strengths of the gun remain intact. I used to say that this nerf led to the AUG being the meta assault rifle of Black Ops 1, but old me was wrong, and I now know that firsthand. The AUG's shaky recoil has become an enduring frustration of mine, and it's made me cherish the Famas' smaller recoil. With that said, the Famas' worse handling is a significant inconvenience, especially since I rarely run Sleight of Hand on any of my weapons anymore. You've said in your Nightmares of CoD video on the Famas that the nerf only led to more people using Sleight of Hand to get around that. While you were right to say that, you underestimated how significant an effect that is. The worse handling the Famas has is notable for those not using Sleight of Hand, and those that use Sleight of Hand with the intent to fix the Famas' bad handling do so at the expense of other perk slots that they'd prefer using over Sleight of Hand (which for me would be Hardened). It's what gives the AUG its niche: you don't have to deal with that worse handling while still maintaining that sweet fire rate if you use the AUG over the Famas.

In fact the own M16 rounds were usually under-loaded to 14-18 rounds in the 20 max capacity mags, but considering that even Dice put 30 rounds magazine to the M16A1 in BFBC2: Vietnam, out of a clearly 20 magazine modeland treyarch even make the original M16 a three round burst firemode weapon, realism is alien to non simulator FPS.

In fact the FAMAS variant that appears in black ops was introduced in 2005, the early FAMAS was more similar to the one in counter strike or modrn warfare 2, wih a large carring handle.

@smashballed If you only plan to pull out the ASP in emergencies (like when your main weapon is out of ammo and you're in the middle of a gunfight) it's wonderful. That lightning quick raise time can save your life. Plus, if you're only using it for emergencies, it's liable your enemy is already wounded, so the 7 bullet magazine isn't such a bad thing. Also, I checked the damage sheets. Except for the Python, all pistols do the same damage.

I'd balance the 3 op weapons- famas becomes a 4 hit at all ranges like FAD in MW3( amishes idea) make the Aug have SMG effective range and increase the recoil( maybe lower damage at range to a 5 hit kill) Remove rapid fire from the AK74U and lastly give the MP5K AR range but slightly increase recoil to make sure it's balanced

+Rob Lucci The AUG is basically a day one FAMAS with a slightly different recoil profile. It got no nerf whatsoever, and as such, is the most commonplace assault rifle when playing today. Plus, the FAMAS' nerf was perfect: it's very similar to the AUG and is unlocked earlier, but has worse handling characteristics.

Ya know I was thinking. I think the best way to balance the FAMAS would be to portray it was it was in Metal Gear Solid. In that game it only held 25 rounds per clip. It would make a lot of sense compared to the other guns. High fire rate, low ammo capacity. The Galil has 5 more rounds, the FAMAS 5 less. The AUG would also be a definitive upgrade as it would have more ammo. Either way, less ammo would have put the FAMAS in line with all the early guns in the online mode.

I said IF my math was right, that was a formula i made. 750 rounds per minute, so divide by 60 to get how many rounds it fires per second. Find how long it takes to fire 1 mag(30 rounds). Then divide that by how many bullets to kill (3 or one tenth of the clip). Also Enfield ADS at 0.2 seconds, Prepatch FAMAS at 0.25 and Post Patch at 0.3 seconds. Also while the numerical difference bettween 750 and 937.5 may seem big, it really doesnt make too big a difference.

@JPrexkid I think what's frustrating is that we've seen both developers nail some things but fail at others. I'm crossing my fingers that with Sledgehammer games entering the picture, MW3 will get the right mix of good stuff from both developers in ONE Game.

Lowering the damage to 30-20 balances the FAMAS way more then everything else they did to it.

The general idea between a 40 dmg gun and 35 dmg gun is the reduced damage when shooting through walls. Famas has a high rate of fire compared to an ak47. So, in theory, it has slightly less wallbang damage to "even it out." Still, doesn't mean much.

I said with full auto, there is an attachment to control different firing modes. Plus with the burst it will be even more accurate.

I use it with scavenger, sleight of hand, and marathon/tac mask. For attachments, I prefer extended mags or dual mags/flak jacket.

Yeah Inifnity Ward seems to hate the Famas, it got kicked from MW3(they screwed up the damage multipliers in mw2 and they took note of people complaining about it in black ops) and replaced with the "QBZ Type 95" which is a japanese selective fire assault rifle(set to burst mode ingame) which has a nearly identical carrying handle like on the Famas.

In real life the early FAMAS has 25 ronds megazine... but I agree, the only problem will be how to balance the AUG then.

@danilovatofan1 it's still pretty good and it helps with lag. i think that is why a lot of people used it along with sleight of hand, it compensated for a poor connection and hit detection issues.

I dont see the aug much, but call of duty stats say the most used guns are famas, ak74 and 3rd galil. and the galil is boss. I think its great, but balanced. its recoil is more unpredictable than the famas and has a slow ass reload. I personally use the FAL most of the time. that gun is pure beast mode.

FAMAS mags were often "under-loaded" even though you could physically force 25-rounds into the mag, usually 2-3 less were loaded for reliability. Some (later) took M16 mags and the standard mag for M16 in Vietnam era was only 20-rounds, the 30-round mag WAS the "extended mag" of that day. I'd have had it the M16 and FAMAS use 20-round mags by default, 30-round with "extended mag" with M16 having much lower recoil. AUG... give it Uzi recoil and AUG recoil to Uzi... that'll balance it out.

I always thought the ideal nerf for this gun would be to reduce the default capacity to 20-rounds as would actually have been more faithful to the original weapon. This would put it much more on the same level as many sub-machine guns where a 20-round mag was a major impediment. Also much less extra-ammo, only 60-rounds in reserve. I found this game weird for how many subguns depended on large ammo-spraying yet had small mags while no assault rifle had less than 30-round mag.

@Alteonify Ak74u: good damage, high ROF ( with rapid fire) good at all ranges with grip, good attachments, and you get all of that plus good reloads and switch times with a very small cost of a 5 hit kill at range. Galil: High damage, good switch times, good attachments, 2 good with suppressor, and good range at the very small cost of a "long reload" and a mediocre ROF. Commando: same reason with galil, but has a shorter reload which makes it WORSE than the galil.

Thanks /) But yeah, this would only be the case in an environment with no lag and if you both aimed downed sights and started shooting at the EXACT same time. Obviously in CoD that will never happen, so the FAMAS ends up winning,but statistically- they take the same time to kill. Also if you both used SOH pro it would be the same thing just faster, 0.19+1.5(half of the post patch FAMAS ADS) and 0.24+10 both equal 0.34 seconds

I felt that the sights actually INCREASED the recoil. Maybe it was just me, but for some reason I found that when I put a sight on it increased the recoil. Am I the only one who felt this?

To answer the long-asked question of: "Why is the AUG feel OK when the FAMAS is bad?" is to explain the trinity of gun balance. When you use the AUG, what do you find different? One of the big points is the recoil. The AUG had a ton of recoil compared to the FAMAS. Amish forgot to note the 3rd item that balances guns. If the damage is high, and the ROF is high, then the only saving grace is recoil. The AUG requires burst-firing at moderately long ranges, and this is where I say the FAMAS is OP. The FAGMAS has great damage, a superb fire rate, and is a laser beam!!

Because everyone used it all over Black Ops. It was easily the most popular gun along with the AK-74u. It's never been as OP as people complain about it being, but I've always done better using a Commando or AUG. The FAMAS has a high fire rate while having virtually the same damage as weapons like the Commando. It was an SMG pretty much with assault rifle range.

I think when you showed the recoil of the Famas that it really showed how bad/inconsistent the recoil etc. is in Black Ops. You see sometimes it barely moves and other times it literally shoots straight up like a rocket. A major flaw in this game imo.

Not so much a slave to realism, I'm just talking about how a move towards realism could be a basis for balance. AUG should kick more than the UZI as it fires a more recoiling cartridge, or at least on par with uzi+grip (AUG has a vertical grip)

the famas is just like the fad in mw3, except the fad was 4-5 hit kill and the famas 3-4 hit kill and fad unlocked VERY LATE level 78.

@FabulaRecords I like the Scorpion too.And I like the M14,FAL,M16 and G11.I rarely see these guns maybe because scorpion has low range and the other guns are burst and semi-auto.All people use are the guns with low kick and a high RPM.(Example,AK74u+rapid fire,and Famas.)

Not alot of people complained about the FAMAS when Black Ops came out. Everyone was complaining about the AK74U and how OP it was. And I dont think Treyarch did anything to nerf the 74U. But then when people complain about the FAMAS it gets nerfed and everythings fine....

Well, maybe it's just my luck, but in most of the lobbies I join there is at least one person using one of those guns. And I said it should be an LMG because the main weakness an LMG has is low mobility. This is just an LMG with fast movement. As I said, I don't think it is crazy OP. But it is just so annoying people use those guns all the time when there are so many other good guns to use. I personally use the Enfield, Commando, MP5k, and AK-47 most of the time.

They differentiated between 35-25 for HC, if it was 40-30 it'd be a OHK at any range, not that 2 bullets from such a fast firing gun really matters

I tried the gun when it first came out and to be completely honest, I didn't like it. My main issue was the kick, believe it or not. Maybe I'm just too used to guns with some kick, I don't know, just didn't like how the gun played. I always considered the AUG, Commando and G11 to be the superior Assault Rifles in Black Ops.

@xxRagingAmishxx hey amish, they patch should've went like this: no attachments, 10 damage, crappy irons, VERY VERY high recoil, 30 sec reload time, 4 minute drop time, 5 minute raise time, 1 bullet mag, and an ammo loadout of 4 bullets. They should do the same thing with the AK74u, AUG, GALIL, STONER 63, COMMANDO, TOMAHAWK, and the BALLISTIC KNIFE. (also, they should've made ghost and second chance do absolutely nothing)
