In that era, songs that were “too black” didn’t get airplay except in our own houses. This era benefited from accessibility.

@midastouch4323: This is definitely one of Natalie Cole's best songs and one of the most beautiful ever recorded. It expresses her love for brazilian Bossa Nova and her coastal L.A. I can relate to that as I'm from a coastal/beach area too. Try to listen to it next or after Rufus & Chaka Khan's "Destiny"...

The majesty of this moment was magical. I was a little boy in the projects of SW DC and I didn't understand how she could look this beautiful AND sparkle AND be so elegant AND pour jazz into and all over this song, but she was a soul SANGER! I was MESMERIZED and this is my favorite song of all time AND my favorite performance OF ALL TIME! Cissy and Anita looking divine in yellow and @AzizaMiller (then Linda Williams), the co-writer on piano. DIVINE!

I remember this song very well from Natalie Cole's television special in 1978, I would cross paths with the song again in its full entirety on the LP record first and tape cassette it second in 1985-1986, then come across present day's KZbin videos featuring other singers performing this in various styles (including Jorge Dalto and Sheila Ford)-there WAS a video like this one, but it was shorter after the guitarist performed his solo interlude.
