I think saying that you can go through la-mulana without finding/understanding the lore/story is a bit weird. If you're seriously playing the games you can't avoid it. The puzzles are how the lore is told, having an understanding of the world is important for being able to solve the games, and especially with the sequel which takes the concept even further.

When a game seems so difficult it borders on laborious, it really isn't a game anymore. This is a very specialized form of labyrinthine game, and seeing just how obtuse the gameplay can be, I think this is a hard pass for me, although I was intrigued by the graphics and side-scrolling aspect.

I really have to take the time again to play these games. Only beaten the first boss in both games, but they are such damn headscratchers. There is just one system I hate: The damn wooden blocks. If you have to use them only once on a switch, than it would be fine... but to go back and forth through some doors, you have to "pay" a wooden block. That means grinding, so you can move freely without having to worry that you run out.

I love games like Ghouls n Ghosts, Cursed Castilla, Cuphead, Super Meat Boy, but I also love action metroidvania games. So I love hard games and the SOTN approach, but am not the biggest puzzle platformer fan. But these games look really enticing, they're on sale, do u think I would enjoy them even with the puzzle elements? There seems to be a lot of action based puzzles(how do I platform over there) over key and switch, right? I really think I should just buy these games now, the whip alone gives me good Castlevania vibes.

Only watched the video to help with algorithms but you have like 3 mins of just a black screen. I don't know how it affects you if most people are clicking of the video halfway through. Good review though if someone had any interest in this game whatsoever I'm sure the review pushed them over the edge.

Thanks for the heads up! We’ll cut that out.

So can you just save whenever you want, as much as you want? Because if so I'd like to play through it. If not, I just don't have the time for it.

Beautiful looking game but stupid there isn't different settings like easy and hard. 😢

Eh... let's not confuse cheap, confusing, punishing, and lack of onboarding with challenging. 9/10? I doubt.

@Michael Harrington I've done plenty of observing, exploring and all that jazz during my time with games that's why I can tell when a game is just being a nuisance instead of actually being challenging.

"No one is going to play these games for the plot" I resent that.

@@medalgearsalad1419 Amazing atmosphere, but the gameplay is a deal breaker. I did Beat dark souls 1 once and not gonna happen again.

"The game's sprites and environments are some of the most beautiful I have seen in a pixelated game..." Bruh, you sure you aren't exaggerating to try to get your point across? These games look nice, but it's 2020, we have had COUNTLESS pixelated titles that look absolutely incredible. No shade for your opinion if you really feel this way, it just sounds like hyperbole to me. These games play like they're from an age gone by, and quite frankly, they look that way too.

3 years later, but I remember that when I started to play the first game last year, I was not a big fan of the graphics. But somewhere in my adventure they really grew on me, and now I think I agree with that statement of the review.
