FYI, India has more than 600000 villages. Phool did not know the outside world. Remember she took the train from the tracks, not the station, so she is unable to name the boarding station.

25:18 Here, the inspector is trying to see if it's possible to convert Hindi alphabets of "Jaya" (her real name) into "Shreya" with minor tweaks b'coz she had done exactly that on her wrist. Also, this tatto is very significant in terms of cultural detailing of the film. Women in village h've these tattoes on their hands b'coz it is believed that what u write as the tattoo goes with u after ur death leaving behind all ur material possessions. In soem places, men don't prefer/accept drinking water from the hands of women who doesn't have this tatto. PS: There is many minor details like these in the film that are left unsaid and I believe this is the real reason the people connected with the film.

remember the villages are now very developed, so much so that amazon delivers in villages. this movie is based in 2001, so you can see the old phones and underdeveloped villages and ignorant people.

Just watched "Laapataa ladies". The movie is Simply Superb. The scene between Deepak & Phool in the farm just took it to the next level. He is so vulnerable in that scene and yet he goes ahead with it. The Overall narrative & storyline is so good. This movie is much much better than the big budget South Indian movies and their remakes which have no sense in them - just big loud music, over the top action & tons of over acting. No nuance at all. It is high time that audiences start valuing & supporting quality cinema over big budget loud movies with over the top acting.

This is not the true representation on our indian village, as i am from a small village from Rajasthan and this series making fun of all of villagers like stereotyping everyone. Any situation in this movie cannot be in real life in that era too. Shameful act by Bollywood. Panchayat is pretty close but this not at all.

I think you don't actually know village life. That's why you could not connect. I was posted for my job in railways in a small town in the middle of nowhere. The railway station was the major attraction. I had made friendships with people hawkers sellers. And I still fondly Remeber it. Looking back now it was a mix of Ruskin bond and Munshi Premchand vibe

Well she did say why she couldn't go home.. it was a story from 2001 nd trust me I've still seen ppl judging a newly wed bride go home alone without the husband within a week of the wedding even with an intention to just pickup few stuff from her house!
