That's because this is what they want tourists to see when they think of Haiti. Yes, there are many beautiful parts of that country. However, the vast majority of citizens live well below what is even considered poverty in most countries. There are vast areas that have been completely deforested just for making charcoal to cook with. There were many areas along the coast lines that had been completely over fished and were a total environmental disaster because of the excessive soil run off into the surrounding waters any time it rained.

This is what they want you to see when you think of Haiti. This beach is leased from the Haitian government to the cruise lines. They keep it looking like this for the tourists. I've been there as a missionary and have seen the reality of Haiti. It's NOTHING like this. Unless things have drastically changed, if you go over the hill to Cap Haitien, you will see a VERY different Haiti.
