Fat was THE label all our friends bands wanted to be on! Never thought any of us would get there, but FatMike saw how amazing Jericho(smoke or fire) was, and snapped them up. And Joe still has that unique quality to his voice. Great video bro

WOW! I had know idea that Jericho became another band, my band Late Last Night from Southern Vermont played with them, our friends Blink Luck Music and Decade halloween of either 2000 or 2001 and they were so awesome, we all got the When The Battery Dies record and love it to this day! I am so excited to dig into their catalog Smoke or Fire! Other bands we were playing with around that time were Drexel, and Smackin Isaiah!

Pour Habit got left out...at the time they were signed, they were (in my opinion) the best thing Fat had put out in a long time. Their singer Chuck was the real deal, he had the right package. His entertainment and charisma on stage was original. He seriously lit up the room on any stage he was performing on and the band all shredded. When they played, everyone watched, smiled and made positive comments. Not too many opening acts can garner that sort of attention. They had somthing unique...Chuck! Im happy to now be playing with Eric Walsh from Pour Habit. We've been jamming and have put together 22 songs to date. Looking to hit the studio at the end of February ...Cheers JB (formerly of Strung Out)

Great video my guy, awesome to see a dedicated video to the label that makes up a huge chunk of my music library lol. I have a very similar experience as you, I discovered NOFX when I was 14, changes my life, and used Fat Wreck to discover other fantastic bands (like my favourite, No Use). It's really commendable that Mike has made the decision to stick with punk rock, even as music trends elsewhere, and they still release all their albums on vinyl with colour variants, instead of just submitting to the digital age. If you haven't already, I highly recommend the latest releases from Useless ID and Get Dead (State is Burning and Dancing With the Curse), they're some of my favourite newer Fat Wreck bands, and those albums are absolutely killer! Look forward to the next video!

Jack! Great video once again. I'm always amazed at how much footage and data you're able to pull on these videos especially with the early 90's content. The fact the most of these records only list the first name of band members on records must make things difficult at times 😆 I'd say the smartest thing Fat ever did in the beginning was put out the $3 sampler CD's. In an age way before social media and streaming services these releases did wonders to promote the Fat family better than any other label. Keep up the solid work dude! 🍻

Fat Wreck Chords was the soundtrack of my youth. Hell, majority of my record and CD collection comes from Fat. And I still have dreams of having my band release something on Fat Wreck. It's a label that cares about its artists, and in the cut throat world of the music industry you don't see it often. You don't expect record labels like that to survive in a dog-eat-dog environment. Yet they have, and not just surviving, but evolving with the changing industry too whilst still being a straight up punk rock label.

If you do ANY video on the importance of punk labels, you NEED to do one on Profane Existence out of MN. They had a distro where they made shirts, patches, had a newspaper like magazine and of course music they put out themselves. They where very important in putting out the 1st wave of US Crust Punk in the late 80's, early 90's along with bands from all over the world. They barely made money as they sold their records as cheap as possible. Another thing that was cool was that they would print on the albums "Pay no more than.." and you will never find ONE copyright symbol or warning on any of their music. They put out some of the most influential records of all time. Nausea, Doom, Aus Rotten, Destory! just to name a few.
