Of all the Labour MPs to lose their seats, I did not think it would have been Dennis Skinner. He has been MP for Bolsover for 49 years, a tremendous feat. He stood by his principles, Dennis voted for the UK to stay outside the EEC in 1972-1975. A firm Eurosceptic. Dennis was respected by politicians from different parties with different philosophies. Dennis will be missed for his common sense and mischief. He will never make fun of Blackrod again "I Bet Blackrod drinks Carling Black Label". One person who was firmly Eurosceptic and renounced his beliefs for power was Corbyn. The irony is, it was an ex-Eurosceptic that lost Dennis his seat. Politics are foul.

Even as a lifelong Conservative voter, I was gutted to see Dennis lose his seat. While I disagree with him on most things, my respect for him as a principled Parliamentarian is immeasurable. "Proper Labour" from old.

@@jch2211 TBF - we needed rid of Corbyn, and Dennis was almost 88 by the time Parliament came back in early 2020. He had remained in post almost by default, but the fire had gone out of him, and I think it's rather telling he hasn't been on any media (not even independent, leftist media) since. Even his own Facebook page (which was always run by staffers on his behalf) hasn't had a single new picture of him or anything since before the 2019 election. I suspect that he's a very frail old man now who may not even have presence of mind any more.
