We had an Australian Labradoodle who lived to one month shy of his 15th birthday. He was about 47 lbs. and was considered a medium sized labradoodle with an apricot wavy coat. He was the best dog we have ever had. He was loving, smart, obedient, playful and he believed he was the protector of his home and family. He was often seen peaking through the curtains in the living room watching everyone that past by our house and letting us know they were there. We groomed him every 4 weeks and the groomer charged $60. His fur felt like cotton, did not shed, and he never smelled. We have been without him for one month and we are missing him everyday!

My Labradoodle was a giant! He was an Fb1 and weighed 126 lbs, 32 inches from nape to base of tail. He was gentle towards babies and cautious around furniture. He was not only my son's "brother, he was my therapy partner. Sadly, he passed February 2020 due to a paralysis from a tumor on his spinal cord. He was still mentally sharp when we had to put him to sleep at 12 years of age. He was the best dog we ever had and I miss him dearly.😭

As a groomer I can tell you that the statement of "grooming them doesn't take much effort" is ridiculously untrue. They are one of the most labor intensive dogs to groom.
@robinabner31183 жыл бұрын
And the price goes way up for grooming. The owners will not understand that they are high maintenance dogs and need grooming every 4 to six months. Many have behavior problems from bad breeding which increase grooming fees.
@WhyAmILikeThisStopPlease3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Have you tried grooming Australian Labradoodles (a more prestigious line than most american versions lab or golden, so maybe they are more carefully bred)? I grew up with the foundation dogs of Ausm Labradoodles (we are breeders out in NC that specialize in standard and medium service/medical alert dogs and hypoallergenic pets), and we do our own grooming for our own dogs and our moms before labor. I agree, they are very labor intensive, but our experience on their temperaments differ. The vast majority of our dogs have just laid there happy as we worked. We have found that some of the smaller dogs have neccesitated the grooming table, but since getting a real groomers bath tub it has mostly been a breeze, aside from those thick coats! Have you noticed if there is a temperment difference between Goldendoodles, American Labradoodles, and/or Australian Labradoodles? Have you generally worked with any service dogs or dogs bred for service work and noticed a difference in temperment between them and other dogs? Good grooming temperment may become something we keep track of in our breeding lines!

I’m a dog groomer and I have to shave severely matted doodle more than anything, if you get one you HAVE to brush them just as much as full bred poodles. Best brushes would be both a long bristle slicker brush and a metal comb - brush and fluff with the slicker and then use the comb to make sure there’s nothing left behind! hope this helps doodle parents 💗💗🐶

@@alberrykl lots of positive praise & patience. I have aussiedoodles and they are high maintenance and high energy. At the beginning just brush a small area and give training treats, they are very small treats and I have not had weight issues with mine. So maybe 3 - 5 times a day for 5 minutes, depending on your availability brush and area and treat with lots of happy praise. A great time to start would be after a professional grooming because the hair would be untangled and short. I hope this helps . BTW I am not a trainer I am only speaking from what has worked for me.

I have a labradoodle, that is the neighborhood watchdog. He howls and barks every time there is a delivery driver, or any unauthorized person in our neighborhood. He acts as if his job is to watch the neighborhood. He sits upstairs, on our bed, and watches out the window at what is going around, while I do my chores. Chester is so hilarious! He is 35 lbs but can sound like a 150 lb Doberman. He's almost 2 years old. He is well trained, but, won't stop on the barking part. It is his duty, so he believes. I many times have to take him for a ride to calm him down. I just say, want to go bye-bye, and he gets his harness. I sure love him and he is the best addition to our family!

Where would be the best place for me to find one? I just lost my little 22 lb schnoodle July 22nd of 2020.. It has been a horrible year. I miss my little baby so very much. My heart is still broken. He was so sweet and smart and loved everyone. Even our 2 cats. He was gentle with children. And if you were feeling bad , somehow he knew. And didn't want to leave your side. I rescued him at 2 and he developed liver cancer that spread really fast. He felt bad one day. I thought maybe he had a tummy ache. So I mad him a little cycling and rice. He ate it for supper. Then a few hours later he started throwing up blood. We rushed him to his vet and he did a bunch of test. It was liver cancer. There was not a thing we could do. If we had to take a second mortgage on our house , we would have done it. We loved him like our child. I am 67 and my husband is 70. He could make us laugh.Make us happy when we were down. And just make you feel better. He did not shed. Which is good because me and my husband have allergy. But we miss our Boo Boo. Mama and daddy will see you in heaven someday Boozie.❤😍😂🙏🙏 We had him cremated to be spread with us someday. We have been married 50 years. And still in love..❤❤🙏

We have two Golden Doodles F1Bs: a standard male apricot, eight months, and a medium female white with brown markings, four months. We got our male first and felt he needed the companionship of another Golden Doodle. They get along well together, although there are times when I think otherwise because of jealousy or toys, even though they get our attention constantly and have a toy box full of chew toys. We are retired, and Theo and Brooklyn are our adopted children, pride, and joy.

If you're thinking if getting a doodle make sure you can afford 80-140$ grooming sessions every 6-8 weeks and that you can thoroughly brush out their coat every day. As a groomer I have done so many matted shave downs on doodles simply because the owners either don't bother brushing or don't brush properly causing their dog discomfort. If you don't want to have to brush regularly get them completely shaved down in a 7,5 or 4 blade every 6-8 weeks. These lengths are short enough that there's not chance of matting. Keeping a longer coat which most owners want when they get one requires A LOT of work on the daily. Of you don't have the time for the maintenance don't get one or make sure you can bring them to the groomers often enough to keep them short. Longer coats will require even more frequent visits every 4-8 weeks depending on how fast they get dirty and grow out. Before buying one find a reputable groomer that is willing to groom doodles ( many groomers dont take them) and work with them to discuss a grooming schedule. Look into line brushing and get the technique down to ensure you have a well brushed coat and don't forget to check your work with a comb!

I don’t understand why everyone hates on doodles so much and feels the need to constantly point out that they’re “just overpriced mutts”. If people are willing to pay more because they love the unique combination that the cross breeding offers, so what! Many awesome purebreds we have now are a result of intentional cross breeding hundreds of years ago. At the end of the day... Designer cross breeds are awesome. Purebreds are awesome. I’m also blessed with a 4 yr old female labradoodle, black, calm, loving, & rare barker. Last year I added an 8 week female Goldendoodle who is 1 y/o this week 12/20. I cannot believe how perfectly these 4 dogs get along. They run & chase squirrels in our 1 acre back yard , come in & curl up with us only to soon start grabbing their toys & playing together. I’ve had dogs all my life and these “doodles” are absolutely the best. No complaints & no health issues! Count me blissfully happy.😃

I have 4 standard poodles and groom them myself. I've met many people who bought doodles of different varieties and ALL had been told they were non shedding and or hypoallergenic (which they weren't). I personally don't understand the big fad with these poodle mixes. Standard Poodles are great dogs. I love their personality and I've owned a golden retriever and a Labrador and by far my favorite have been my poodles. Never thought I would like poodles, but we had to choose a non shedding dog once our golden passed away, now my husbands sinus issues and headaches are gone.

They are just the perfect dog in my opinion. Smart, loving, great family dog, active but will also snuggle. Plus they don’t shed. The fad has to do with people wanting those awesome poodles characteristics but with a different look. I don’t really get it either. Just get a poodle ☺️

To everyone who said to get a poodle, go to the head of the class. You're extremely intelligent and almost as smart as your poodle. 😉 I am completely flummoxed that people are trying to create the perfect dog breed when the breed already exists. Say it with me, ladies and gentlemen ... *THE POODLE!* -Comes in all sizes -Comes in several colors -2nd most intelligent breed (border collie is first but you need to be very energetic to keep up) -Quick learner -Is a real dog, despite the silly show dog haircuts they're required to wear. No poodle owner ever has to have their poodle groomed in such a fashion As with all dogs, I recommend adopting before shopping. If you want a poodle, check for poodle rescues. I got my poodle I have now at humane society about 2 hours away. He was only $50 because he is an older dog and had a blind eye. Nevertheless, he has been so unbelievably perfect, it's hard for me to fathom my good luck. It could take extra time to find a poodle to rescue because people love them and they get adopted very quickly. But please try very, very hard to find one and let's stop creating new dogs while there are so many dogs of all breeds who need loving homes. And consider the ones with the frosted faces. Rescuing one dog won't change the world, but it will change the world for that one dog. 🐕

@@suzigrekin8849 Border collies are indeed #1 in canine intelligence. For those who are energetic and who can spend a generous portion of their time keeping their dog focused on tasks and/or playing, the breed is an excellent fit. You are probably one of those people. For those who may be (1) a little more lay back individual, (2) allergic or have family/friends who are, and (3) are not interested cleaning up dog hair, poodles might be an better option. Being #2 in canine intelligence plus being hypoallergenic is nothing to sneeze at. (See what I did there?😆😂)
