One recommendation: When working around CRT and analog board assemblies, wear shoes and socks, please. If the floor or room is humid or saturated with moisture and the circuit has high voltage circulating, you could get a nasty shock. Especially worse, if you have both feet on the floor and both hands in the high voltage area in the rear of the compact Mac.

@@MacintoshLibrarian Just a little PSA from someone with experience in high voltage and high current potentials. It takes as little as 50mA (milliamps) to cause your heart to go into fibrillation. It's not the volts that kill, it's the amperage. You just want to avoid any path going across your heart; so both arms, for example. Don't work on high power circuits with both hands; put one of your hands in your pants pocket or place it behind your back.

Back in 1995 I did work experience in a Mac store. The technician I worked with got a shock from a CRT while we were servicing it! He was fine though. As payment I got a co-processor card for my Mac IIsi. Looking back now I realise that it never worked because I never knew about drivers and I don't think the technician I got it off knew either.

If my research is correct, the 575 motherboard normally comes with a non-FPU CPU, so that had already been upgraded on that board.

I found your channel last saturday and fell in love with your style of editing and videos in general! One of the best edutainment type channels. This could be a tv-show in the 1980s-1990s and it would have a biig audience imo. ❤

Great job! You made the right call when isolating that pin with the dremel tool. Scoring the circuit board with a thin-bladed instrument wouldn't give you the profound isolation you'd ideally want without having to make 4,000 passes. You want some space between that pin and the copper pour that it was (once) connected to. Keep up the good work!

@@MacintoshLibrarian I was putting a G4 Cube into the Colour Classic case and I did the mod to wire up a VGA connector (ie: literally wires to a VGA connector hahaa) I could hook the cube to. Of course it was terrible with a lot of noise so in the end I got a 10" VGA POS (Point Of Sale) monitor and jammed it in the case and used it instead - much better!

Would be cool to see you also tackle the takky mod (putting a performa 6200/6300 logic board and connector inside a color classic chassis) with one of the other color classics, but that in and of itself is really daunting.

Hi! You put way more effort into working on a Color Classic than I ever have, I actually ended up passing mine on to another collector as I really wasn't comfortable working around the high voltage circuitry after getting zapped on a SPARCStation power supply. They are nice machines aesthetically, but not the easiest things to work on. If you don't mind a suggestion, could you implement a MacintalkPro voice for the SE/30 character? Would be very fitting!

When I was a kid it wasn't cool to be a computer nerd.. I remember riding my bike to MicroCenter and wanting to buy a Color Classic so bad with my paper route money. After looking at it I was kind of put off with what you got for the price and remember thinking that lack of 640x480 was going to kill it. My parents wouldn't let me spend that much money so I got nothing and liked it! Well back to the library computers for me. I did get a 386sx-25 at the end of my 8th grade year.
