I know a lady who hunts for the meat, who's best friends argument is "why it's available at the grocery store?" He doesn't understand overpopulation of said animals, yet the twist is, she processes the meat but doesn't eat it.. Anyone else have a perspective on this ?
@curiosityl.62614 жыл бұрын
@@tfxchronotfx2488 How they treat the animals is absolutely disgusting and they keep them in captivity spoiling their meat while the animals are living in constant anxiousness. It's making me want to cry now even writing about it. That meat is such low quality from before it's even processed because of all the stress on the animal. Then by the time we buy it in the store not only has animal cruelty occured but we are lowering our own health, and own standards by consuming that terrible meat. It's not good for the animals, or for us. Hunting or buying meat from hunters is really the only morally high approach to it. I haven't had the luxury of being able to do this yet, I'm only 20 and just barley moved out of moms🤣. But defintiely plan to do this in my future. We were meant to eat meat, they're here partially to be eaten by predators, and we just happen to be one of those predators, but the way it's done is allll fucked up. And yes the overpopulation thing is VERY important as well to understand for people who are vegan, and against people that eat meat.

It’s refreshing to have a guy like Ed lead the charge with all the negative connotations that are attached to the word “vegan.” He’s the perfect example of a man who is trying to educate instead of “win arguments.” He’s very well educated, but he actually has the power to reach people to actually get them to reconsider their position. Many can learn from him. In debates, if you can remain calm, not take or make it personal, and focus on your points while also listening and being open to the fact that the person on the other side of the table may have a valid point...then you will at the very least get them to listen and respect your opinion. When egos get involved, then people stop listening. Really enjoy hearing these discussions. Disagreement does not have to be a heated argument all the time.

And its so easy to just identify with a group/idea and refuse to let go of it. I think many people go about living that way and they seem to be the loudest. He ate meat for 22 years or so of his life. He understands both sides because he's been on both sides. He is very clear and concise and his reasoning checks out. Remember just because you don't agree with his points doesn't make them "stupid." You can use your free speech here in a better way and actually pinpoint a point of his you thought was stupid, then list your reasoning as to why it was stupid. Start a conversation. Back it with research. Anyone can come on here and say someone's argument is stupid just because they don't agree with it because it conflicts with their way of living. That is useless though.

Yeah, I can get population control for certain species where reintroducing the natural predators is deemed impossible, but having an animal killed for daring to be near your house and being dangerous is dumb. The advantage of tool use and communication is that we can use these coordinated groups and unorthodox methods to find better solutions to problems. It's what apparently makes us so much better than animals to a lot of people, but we don't seem to use it to benefit the world around us. I like vegetarian ideas and eat mostly veggie myself, because if I can't guarantee the animal was free range and had been treated well before their death then I shouldn't consume their meat. I also consider if I could kill the animal who's meat I'm eating was it placed in front of me, and if I couldn't look at it and kill it, why should I eat it? I was a vegetarian fully for two years, but after going fishing and hunting, I could realistically say that I could eat most meats, barring lamb, veal and meats from young animals, as they haven't had a chance to live a full life before they are killed for meat

@John Smith i hope you're just trolling be, but as a biologist I can say this is far from true. So this is just some ranty info for anyone interested Every part of an ecosystem is important, because it resides on a very fine balance, nature can adjust to the removal of let's say bunnies out of a forest, but it removes a huge source of food for foxes, so maybe now they have to mice. This kind of changes can influence the natural selection process etc. Every life form, how annoying or invaluable it may seem, has its role. Wasps for example keep other insects in check by hunting them. In human created environments like cities or farms, it becomes a nuisance to a large problem, because of the lack of balance. No natural predator for rats in a city leads to overpopulation etc. The same way humans are unrivaled on this earth, with it's only real danger being each other or something like Corona.

@chadkasten30174 жыл бұрын
I don’t think he has an argument against it man, Iv looked. I have no problem with a vegan lifestyle, good on you to try and make a difference. But I would like to know how vegans are going to control the wild hog issue across America causing huge losses to out farmland. We also have wild game issues. For example, and there are many more. Along with hunter activity the state takes over 3,000 black bears a year in California alone. This all has to do with managing wild life. The hunters eat the bear, and the state leaves it to rot. Or the CWD issue in the Midwest from the under-harvesting of white tail deer for years. Just like any disease the more animals the more the disease is spread, and then the whole population is on thin ice. Not to mention the concern that CWD could jump to people, and not by eating deer meat, incase you though that’s how you get a virus. We have too much urban encroachment to ask the wild to manage itself, any wildlife biologist knows this is fact. Once again, have a vegan lifestyle, but remind me why I have to stop hunting when it’s less pressure on the environment then a vegan diet. Just because every vegan can’t have a garden, doesn’t mean those of you who have a garden should stop. Just like I don’t have to stop hunting cuz others cant. You may think it’s an unnecessary evil to kill animals, and I could agree with livestock. But we need to manage our wildlife, the world has already lost so much, and believe it or not, hunters do a huge part, I agree we enjoy hunting. But our wild lands would almost have no funding if it weren’t for hunter activity, most our tag revenue goes to conservation. And they don’t get much funding else where. Even animal rights advocates are a minuscule percentage of the conservation funding hunters give. And I would say the average hunter is more involved and knowledgeable in conservation and wildlife management then vegans, because were involved directly, and care about it so much. And Iv never heard an intelligent argument against these claims. Maybe ed should give it a try, but he doesn’t seem to have anything substantial.

H T I don’t think land bridges will help CWD, wild hogs, invasive fish, invasive grass, lack of fires, lack of water ect... but ya land bridges are good
@chadkasten30174 жыл бұрын
H T ya your right, so is global warming. Should we not try to correct that as well? Are you insinuating since people caused the problem we’re going to make it worse? Cuz if that’s the case then we shouldn’t put up land bridges right? Or tear down dams so salmon can migrate? Idk what your getting at. Yes people are the reason a lot of this went down, but we shouldn’t leave our mess, we should fix it, and that involves hunting. Land bridges help animals on migration, and that’s great, but it’s not enough alone, it’s a drop in the ocean of problems we’re facing. And land bridges won’t get big horn sheep back into their native range, it won’t get cutthroat back into pyramid lake, it won’t replenish the grasslands with endemic grass, it won’t keep the black bear population in check, it won’t keep wild horses from over grazing, it won’t allow more burn sites for mosaic habitats....ect. That takes money, and that money comes from hunters. And almost all wildlife funding come from hunters, that’s why we have Yosemite, and Yellowstone. Hunting should and will be a fixture for a long long time, purely for the funding it brings. And tell me again how land bridges will help CWD, or Wild pigs. Cuz that needs hunting, what is another option? Land bridges don’t fix pandemics, or invasive species, they spread them. My hope is we correct all our mistakes (impossible) and once we do that, hunting will still be an activity to pursue. It’s less harmful on the ecosystem then a vegan diet. And I don’t believe it’s evil to kill animals, we can agree to disagree on that one. Also I’d rather have groups like Ducks unlimited, Trout unlimited, Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Group, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and Mule Deer Foundation.(all hunter supporters by the way) having a say with our public lands, fighting for more wild areas. Then the latter, companies like BP and Shell. Also trying to drill on those same lands. I’m sure you’ve heard about Trump trying to sell Yosemite to oil companies, or the pebble mine in Alaska. Maybe you haven’t heard, mostly only hunters care about these issues, it’s rare vegans know these things. The only thing preventing these companies from taking over, is funding by hunters, and help from the groups I listed. Without them our wild lands would probably be gone, and we would look like Europe. Sorry but the animal right activists make less the .5% of all the funding. Nothing more annoying then someone from the outside who is uneducated on the topic and doesn’t contribute, trying to critique others conservation efforts. And if your trip is overpopulation, that has nothing to do with hunting, hunting is an animal management practice. It’s necessary at this time in our history regardless of overpopulation. Find a wildlife biologist who disagrees with me, and answer my questions. I don’t want to hear about overpopulation.

@monicahepler43142 жыл бұрын
Let me explain it for you, vegans claim their diet kills less animals because the amount of animals that die during the food production that is feed to the animal. Using that logic then, meat eaters who feed on meat that is produced without the modern crop production methods would therefore kill less overall animals in their diet. Also using the vegan logic of "the less animals I kill is better" then a diet of low intensity meat production is morally superior to any vegan diet based on the amount of overall lives lost in the production of one's caloric needs.

you're conflicting arguments just like ED... he represents big corp plant based products that kill animals in the process of making their products from using pesticides and machinery and have to clear land and forests to also build upon...so while sure they kill way less than lets say some big animal processing plant, but she's a hunter, she probably doesnt even kill an animal daily compared to a plant farm which probably semi directly/indirectly kills animals daily...so because he advocates for these big corp type products (which imo they pay him well) he just meshes together arguments like she's arguing for some big industrialized animal plant which if you listened to the first min she says shes not for...8:05 he strawmans tf out of her, saying "oh you kill more animals so you're worse" which is one false because shes not some huge animal killing type plant and two he admits that vegan farming kills animals and yet says "oh well we kill less animals so we're better than you" hypocrite

I think reasonable vegans want meat eaters to know that they don't think their reasons for being vegan are necessarily perfect. The idea is to reduce the suffering that comes with our current system of industrial farming. We live in a complicated world and no solution will bare perfect results. Too many times i see a defeatist mentality that claims since we can't be perfect in eradicating all suffering then we should embrace ALL the suffering we inflict now. That line of thinking will only feed the unsustainable nature of all the choices we make, and that goes beyond being vegan. Shout out to all the ppl having civilized discussion though!

Personally I'm excited to see the introduction of more 'vertical farming'. Climate controlled warehouses with stacks of crops being grown in crates under UV light. There are a lot more motivating factors than just "having an exclusive lifestyle", which btw wouldn't be a motivating factor on it's own. The validation you speak of sounds pretty disingenuous. If anyone believes something is a bad action, that seemingly the whole world embraces, why wouldn't they want less people to engage in that action? @franklance91674 жыл бұрын
@@pphils14 "right but i think talking about a tiny fraction of what most people consume is missing the big picture." I mean this is literally hunter vs vegan. The hunter would be the one that is hunting wild animals who do not get food from mass harvesting or from crops that have pesticides on them. "99% of meat/dairy/eggs are sourced from factory farms." more like 95%, but OK. extension.psu.edu/grass-fed-beef-production "And even if i agreed hunting attributes to less harm, if we all became hunters all of those elk, deer, boar etc would be extinct in a heart beat." Maybe, but I am going to use the same response vegans use. We don't expect everyone to start hunting instantly(if it was proportional then the ecosystem would probably be able to adjust but who knows. There is also the potentiality for grass finished alongside that in large production as a control variable). Vegan use the same response when someone asks "what is going to happen to all the factory farmed animals if everyone just became vegan". They also say that it won't happen because everyone will go vegan gradually, apparently. The thing is, you don't have to have everyone hunting. We just know that on an individual level, if someone goes hunting it causes less net animal deaths than if they were to purchase harvested crops. This might fall apart if everyone did it, but not on the individual level as it is now, and not everyone is going to go hunting. The only actual way you are going to get away from crop deaths is through veganic farming and vertical farming, which is nowhere near widespread enough for it to be tenable for that many people. Once you get that then the crop deaths argument can actually be countered. "And to note, intent matters." There is just as much intent in the scenario. If you are rationally aware that your actions do in fact cause more net deaths, and there is a solution that DOES NOT require those net deaths and you choose NOT to do that solution, then you are intending to do an action which knowingly causes more deaths. There is only a lack of intent in an irrelevant sense. For instance, if I go to outback steakhouse, I am not intending for more animals to get killed and exploited. All I am intending is to eat the already pre-killed/pre-exploited product. It is anti-vegan not because I have no intent for the consequence, but because it is a known fact that my actions are in fact increasing that likelihood of animal cruelty and exploitation and that I could choose not to do so long term(i.e. practicable). My intent isn't relevant in respect to veganism. "I know billions of people drive cars but vegans aren’t saying we should hold people accountable for driving over insects." They should be if the reason they are driving cars is not for survival or health, such as with leisure activities, because if they are doing it on that reason then they are not excluding as far as is possible and practicable all ways in which they contribute to cruelty and exploitation of animals, as their actions knowingly increase that risk, and is entailed by the ideology. www.vegansociety.com/go-vegan/definition-veganism This is a case of vegan hypocrisy, where they judge some people for not following their ideology in one situation, but not another. People don't need to care about the vegan ideology if the do not subscribe to it, but you guys do, and the contradiction here is plain to see.

theadam22 if someone is in immediate danger, sure. If a mosquito is trying to bite me which could lead to horrible infections or if a snake is about to bite and potentially kill myself or a loved one, it’s self defence, just like it would be vs a human. There is a big difference between that and going out and killing an animal for fun, or for food when you have plenty of other options. If killing for food isn’t necessary it’s for fun.
@cynicalidealist114 жыл бұрын
@theadam22 I think it's acceptable to kill a snake if they are attacking you or a loved one, it's self defense. The same is true if a human attacks you or a loved one. Why is it okay to kill a mosquito but not a deer? Well for starters there is a massive sentience difference and therefore a massive difference in moral value in my view. Deer are mammals so we know they are almost certainly sentient and have a capacity to experience well being, but there isn't any compelling evidence as far as I know that mosquitoes or insects in general are sentient to any appreciable degree and if that's the case they wouldn't have moral value in my view. Not to mention that mosquitoes are incredibly dangerous as they can carry all manner of diseases and actively try to bite you, whereas you'd have to go out of your way to kill a deer, they are not a threat.

@@buffybuff992 This is curious when pests are problems brought in by humans. I'm unsure what how I feel about killing pests as they're just doing what they're doing. But Rabbits compete against the local fauna way hard as rabbits are used to eating and breeding as quickly as possible, having many predators about. Whereas here in Aus, many mammals have lived for so long without any real large predator about and so, live a far more laid back easier life. This then makes it hard when rabbits ravage the land so quickly that the locals can't keep up. It's a horrible situation.

@@randomicallyrandom They didn't "devolve" into shorter versions. The only reason a trait such as shortness is selected for is if it's advantageous to the fitness of the creature. In the case of animals becoming shorter over time, that's just evolution, a forward change into a new version of themselves. Evolution doesn't mean you get stronger, faster, or smarter, it just means you change over time. I have no idea what devolution would mean, maybe evolving backwards in time? Even if an animal began to turn into a form that is more like one of it's ancestors, it would still be called evolution.
@randomicallyrandom4 жыл бұрын
@@Cheesewiz247 You have a point. I know that animals simply adapted to the environment in which they lived. It's true, a "devolution" can be seen in two ways: the animal has become physically weaker or has returned to what it was before evolving into what it is today. In evolution there is always an equivalent exchange, something is lost and something new is gained in return. Strong and weak are two relative things, you are right.

@@randomicallyrandom I'm glad we had a civil conversation! Mankind now is using 98% of arable land for food for humans + animals. if you stop eating animals, within 20 years the population of animals will be more then triple. which means need much more food for animals and for longer periods. and if millions of humans stop eating animals, they will need more veg food. it is impossible to have enough food for humans and animals. no he didn't, has she pointed out ethical veganism is inherently hypocritical. He said, veganism is a reduction in harm. Would anybody say, a rapist who started raping less is now moral? no. Morality and ethics don't play into a person's survival and eating meat is an act in survival. People need to ask themselves, is it unethical to kill something and eat it? Why are plants different from animals? Humans have to eat living or recently deceased things to survive. We can't eat rocks to gain energy. I think most reasonable vegans could agree that over consumption and waste of animal products is worse than eating animal products responsibly. IMO, eat whatever diet you want but put your effort toward more practical efforts. America has more vegans and vegetarians than ever before and we actually produce more meat than ever. We just export it now which further increases carbon emissions. Cut the waste, end capitalism, improve healthcare and mental health. That's how you end meat eating and factory farming. Not telling people they are awful for eating the food their grandma cooked for them.

she's technically correct in most peoples' versions of diets meat/animal products are incredibly nutrient dense compared to plantstuffs... if you remove all animal nutrition as vegans do then you are by definition vastly increasing the required plant nutrition .. plants are generally very poor in terms of nutrient density/bioavailability, which further increases the requirement for variety/volume all crops have huge numbers of associated death/animal suffering/ecological+watersystem damage with them... you can improve some aspects of this quite a bit by sourcing organic/local crops, but you still have plenty of animal death/suffering via many routes... even just "crop protection" deaths alone eclipse any sort of animal ethics issues that can come from eating naturally raised ruminants You will notice ed specifically mentions "aphids" in relation to crop production, but this is a deflection tactic, ed KNOWS that MANY other forms of small animals are routinely culled in the production of crops, since they are competing for the herbivorous foods (and as mentioned, whilst "crop protection" is a large number/variety of deaths/suffering, it's the tip of the iceberg - veganism is far worse for animal ethics than responsible meat eating ever could be) pastebin.com/AvVxBAxU

@@heidilinder3443 animals, especially ruminants should not be fed that garbage, neither should we.. (even though "animal feed" is typically byproducts of grains/legumes that aren't destined for human consumption primarily) but yes, there will always be some life/death in the cycle, that's kind of the point... regardless of what you eat or how well you source it Both crop and factory farming of animals on mass scales has become extremely unsustainable , I'm just saying that going vegan isn't the answer, quite the contrary. Many vegetarians/vegans end up eating much more of those mass monocropped plants/grains/legumes since they have taken out all of the actually bioavailable/dense sources of nutrition out of their diet. It would make much more sense to include well sourced animal products if the goal is animal ethics/environmentalism... or health for that matter. So why do all these vegans who eat the monocropped garbage look down upon animal-product eaters, when they're likely doing the same kinds of damage or worse, than the worst meat eaters... it's nonsense and it seems the only way to truly create any shift in the industries/ethics questions, is to start taking our money away from monocropping/animal factory farming and instead funding local regenerative farmers who are respectful of lifes' balances.. and so, definitely including those micronutrient dense, bioavailable animal foods and garnishes of plants, both/all sourced well.
