When men say that they cannot control their impulses when women dress "indecently," they insult themselves with the implication that they have no more self-control than a mere animal. It says far more about them then about the people they complain about.

Boys will be boys... Until they're taught to be gentlemen. And that's not happening enough. My dad taught me, be courteous, stand for what's right, defend those who can't, etc... I'm a skinny small guy (5'6", 120 #) and I'm tired being the one intervening, while men twice my size, just keep walking. I've never been hurt, or had to get physical, maybe cause it's amusing that the smallest guy in the room is the one to intervene, lol 😊 (and as my dad says, the bigger they are, the harder they fall, so go for the legs, lol!)

Trying to inform him that those girls...were some other dad's daughter.....he didn't care. Luckily, our mom was a fantastic mom. I am tired of it. I have been wearing ankle length skirts and still have guys hitting on me or bugging me. I asked to be left alone . Why is it that a woman trying to live a godly life doesn't matter? If a man can't control himself around a woman maybe he is the one lacking spiritual maturity. I can't control what goes on in a man's mind. That's his responsibility not mine. If I can control myself around an attractive member of the opposite sex I don't see how they have the excuse that they just couldn't help themselves.

It's like the story where they drag the adulteress before Jesus to be stoned. My question has been for a long time, "where's the man?". It's not like she committed adultery all by herself!! Both parties participated, both parties should face the same consequences.

Yeah like many I thought about that but I often wondered about the wive's, g.f.? They were just as vicious/eager to see her stoned. I figured Mary Magdalene was the easy target to project their "sins/issues". A misogynistic culture/religion, even if she said no, he would take/rape (blame/shame, zero accountability) & w/no partner/husband to lend crediblity/protect automatic threat to wive's suspect infidelity but unable to confront/divorce passive/aggressive behavior (withholding sex) green eyed monster directed at M.M. Holy cow what a mess they create/project. M.M. probably tried to keep low profile as much as possible. Hey isn't there a story of her being a beauty & Rabbi's exploiting her/beauty, love of God to basically pimp her out for the church/synagogue. Easy to understand why/how she fell in love w/Jesus 🤔

I realized something about that story recently. When Jesus said that whoever was without sin could cast the first stone, he was talking about himself. I believe a lot of “adultery” in the Bible was not often truly adultery but something much worse in which the woman was an innocent victim. It is still so in some countries today. People who steal cars can’t blame the paint job. No one would blame a successful farmer for the actions of the poacher. Why is it only women, who sometimes experience horrible violence as a result, blamed for the actions of their attackers? Besides that, the clothes are just a convenient excuse that society will accept. It’s not like women don’t get cat called, harassed, and assaulted even when they’re dressed modestly. You know, because the pub owner needs to help out the sinners. That's basically what you tried to shame women into doing. We women are trying to live our lives and inevitably there's some yahoo who thinks we should spend our time and energy helping men out. Help the same people who terrorize us, make laws over our bodies, pay us less, penalize us for being mothers, etc. We're not saints. Solve your own problems. Assault is always blamed on the clothes meanwhile old ladies, unfortunately little girls, babies boys, men, nuns etc. get attacked but somehow it's the clothes. This is why women and even some men would rather encounter a wild bear than a strange man. Every woman you know has a story about a man doing something to her. The bear for the most part doesn't want anything to do with me . If the bear does attack it's not doing so for fun or its pleasure and would not try to draw it out for sick purposes. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about a human.

@Salina-qd6es I was a pretty girl. Puberty did me no favors. When i started looking weird, my mom said that mother nature was turning me into a beautiful woman. Does a beautiful woman get called sir or a gentleman? It happened once in front of her, and I thought she was going to have a fit. Anyways I'm ok with it. I just smile or chuckle. It doesn't matter to me. I don't have to worry about guys "cat calling" me. I've got that inner beauty.

as a woman, i am so tired of being responsible for mens' thoughts/feelings/behavior/actions. it is something we are made aware of at a very young age, and its BS. we have to be responsible for ourselves AND all men? when do they take responsibility? we live our lives feeling like prey in a cage, and they tell us we cant hurt mens' feelings or ruin their life by reporting them, when a single choice any one of them makes can ruin ours. if that wasn't enough, some men dont even see us as humans worthy of living if we're not doing what they want. blaming it on dress is a copout. from experience, i can confirm that it does not matter. i was harrassed as much while covered up and visibly pregnant, as when i was young and showing skin. a man sexually assaulted an elderly woman in a NYC street recently. i doubt she was showing much skin. its just another way they try to make us take responsibility for their sins.

I was told one time in a church that it was my fault a that an 80 year old deacon tried to rape me in the back of the church because my neck wasn't completely covered up. If he was a deacon dedicated to the Lord a women in a bathing suit should have been able to walk through the door and he wouldn't have had a problem with it. Although I do believe that women should dress modestly because that's what it says in the Bible, our sins are our sins not someone else's fault.

What it says in the Bible is that women should not dress ostentatiously, flaunting their wealth. It actually doesn't say anything about skin exposure in the New Testament. Cf. "Let us throw off everything that hinders...", in reference to running a race, which implies the Greek custom of participating in athletics in the nude.

If we say something that implies that a man is not in total control, we’re in trouble. But this implies that men have absolutely no control over themselves and they need to be minded like children. But if we say “grow up” to a man behaving badly…Uh-oh look out! I’m getting old, but I have three teen daughters and it’s so hard not to be pessimistic and terrified for all the experiences they may have at the hands of people (other women especially) who will blame them for simply existing and getting hurt.

Yes well, it was the woman who set me to it! Yes well, why aren't we talking about that snake? We can't know, but how might things in the Garden have shaken out differently if Adam had said "you're right! You told me what to do, and I knew what You told me, and yet here I am."

Why does purdah not result in safety for women rather than kept things as dangerous as the medieval era? Because it's not about removing temptation for men. It's about scapegoating women for the sins of men. As Fr. says here, sins are ours. Does anyone think the Son of God can't tell who's lacking in discipline?

I downloaded an online game the other day, and after booting it up, I jumped right into the character creation. They had different races, with both male and female models to choose and customize. The women were all dressed as scandalously as you could imagine... But they had a race of robot player characters. The male versions were all Android like models, all steel, giant limbs, no human like characteristics at all... But the female ROBOTS still had a bust, exposed skin, female faces. I uninstalled it immediately. It wasn't because I was tempted, I was angry. Why? Why do robots need breasts? An exposed midriff? There were 4 other races of humanoids to choose from... But they couldn't not do it. I've said it before, I hate this world. So much.

Interestingly, in a world where no-one wears cloths temptation is much less common. It is true that men tend to be weaker when it comes to sexual attraction. This is not genetics though. The difference is societal. Men are expected to be strong, virile, "manly". Women are expected to be chaste until marriage. While that expectation may have relaxed a bit on both sides on the whole, its still the expectation in many parts of the US and around the world. Its the Pavlov's dog thing. Its not enough to tell women to wear more cloths. In the Middle East, an exposed ankle or head of hair is enough. In the stricter countries a mesh covers the eye slit of the burka lest a man should catch a glimpse of the eyes. God forbid the woman should walk in a manner that could be interpreted as "sexy".
