One of the most memorable and impactful moments of my life happened when I was quite young, about 22. I was hired to help a neighbor in another building move, & during that hour he told me about a big wad of money he lost! His wife and daughter were mad as hell at him! During the day I found the money and I gave it back, over 3 Grand in 1978! That was big money in those days! The shock on the man's face was priceless and the joy coming from the family has warmed my heart ever since! He gave me a few bucks for thanking him plus the money I made was a pretty profitable day! I didn't have to steal to make it better! My friend who was helping me was mad at hell, he wanted to steal it! No matter how bad my life has gotten since, that memory always brings a pleasant smile! I wonder if that family ever thinks of me! Peace love and hippie stuff to all!!

Great story! What many people do not realize, is that by doing the right thing makes one feel good about themselves, and that in turn attracted other good things to themselves. If you had kept the money, there was a 95% or more chance you would have done something destructive, like buying a motor bike, but then get into an accident, as you were actually running from yourself. Your friend would have likely caused more friction, etc. And you could have bypassed some other good thing, that was coming into your life etc. Being a senior, I tend to see life in the bigger picture.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry says he can't wait to be sued over enacting this law. Which will inevitably cost the taxpayers of his state. People do not realize the impacts laws like this have on them. They also don't realize 1. Laws like this has already been ruled unconstitutional 2. Tax payers will now have to foot the bill spending millions to defend this law, only for it to be struck down by the courts 3. Louisiana ranks 47th in education, and this is money that could have been better spent helping improve the education system Finally, the same law makers that passed this law, also rejected federal funding to feed hungry kids in the summertime. This type of hypocrisy is causing people to flee religion. People see the hypocrisy. The only reason this law was passed is because it is an election year, and not for moral reasons.

@@UnashamedCaliforniagirl laws like this, if allowed to remain, open the Pandora's box of litigation. That is why even the far right SCOTUS has struck down laws like this. If the 10 Commandments is allowed in schools, then you will have every religious organization out there, bringing law suits against the government and the school system, to allow their religious text in schools, including those that worship Satan as their religion. That means millions, possibly billions more, paid by tax payers, to bring these cases to court. The kids are the ones that suffer, while they sit in classrooms that are overcrowded, underfunded, and way behind the rest of the country and civilized world.

I just love how there are parents who object to science, tolerance, etc., being taught in school but have no problem other people teaching their children "morality" in the form of the 10 commandments. To go all grandpa, here, "back in my day" that's what Sunday School and church were for (as Rev Ed points out). School is supposed to prepare you for life, home and church (if applicable) are supposed to prepare you for living.

It would be great if teaching the ideas of respecting others and building each other up, were acceptable in schools. I brought that up once in one of my kids' schools, and was basically told that cooperation was not an acceptable objective. One doesn't need the Ten Commandments to teach civility.
@davidrada2414 ай бұрын
Here's an idea. Bring together all the major religions to compare their teaching of morality. Then let them rewrite 10 guides for life. Not exclusively Christian, but incorporate jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, druid, etc. you get the idea. Be an interesting exercise to find, finally, how much our species have in common.
@junerussell69724 ай бұрын
Frankly, if they can post this, then even the Satanists can have *their* beliefs posted too. I guess the ones who want their version of the Ten Commandments forget about that part! (My friends have been listing all sorts of things from various religions that should be posted alongside the ones from the evangelicals.) Too many religionists are scared to have their kids learn anything about other religions. They're afraid the kids will like those better. They don't even want to expose themselves to those ideas. But they might find they have a better understanding of their own religion and hold it more in their hearts if they did learn about others. I've read the literature of any religion I can put my hands on. It hasn't turned me away from what I believe, but has given me more understanding of others (and how similar their ethics and morals are to my own religion.) I like the idea that people teach our own children rather than putting it on the schools (who have enough that needs to be taught. They need to stick to that.) If someone doesn't have a religion, then offer them yours (being aware that they have a right to say "no." Don't try to force it on them.)

In a sense, it does apply to everyone. But we are supposed to show them, by our good works, our compassion, our love, and so forth. It's not about 'magic words', it is about our own actions, and how they affect others, and the world. This is the context of "The Good Samaritan" story. Many other Jews look down upon them, because thier beliefs were not as sophisticated as other sects. But moral of the story was that the under-sophisticated man's actions, placed him above even the most accomplished class in their society, the Rabbis. So the story was not about quoting scripture, but it was is treatment of others. In other words his actions. Even though the debate has been going on for a thousand years, the answer is pretty clear to me. The word 'ethics' is just a secular term, for having values which guide our actions, aka 'works'. I hope this helps.

Those who want to post the Ten Commandments aren't worried so much about their own children as the children of others. "I raise my kids right, but what about Those People?" Together with, "and their kids might corrupt my kids" (by teaching them not to hate Those People, of course, is that part that goes unsaid.) Lord, have mercy upon us, and write Thy Law upon our hearts, we beseech Thee.

I agree that principles to live by must be discussed in order to be understood and followed, but the 10 commandments are old school. When the Master was asked what the greatest commandment was, he didn't pick any of those. He instead quoted the one about loving your God with all your might and loving your neighbor as yourself. The reason being, if you're loving another, you naturally won't be doing any of those 10, and in addition, you will also be looking for ways to do good to others, which are not covered by the 10.

The closest that religion ever entered the classroom was on Wednesdays, when some students, who wished to, were excused early to go to their church, or synagogue. It makes me wonder if present day parents are spending time with their children teaching them by words & by example about The Ten Commandments, or they are too busy on their computers, their phones, shopping, etc. Are the children not learning about The Ten Commandments at their church? How can the state of Louisiana able to afford these lawyers and costs when they do not spend that much on teaching the three R's of education? This is not only foolish waste of time but also an expense they cannot and should not be spending. Wasted funding is all this leads to.

But they are fighting a spiritual battle in their minds their paradigm. but a lot of people have transverse that paradigm of fear And indoctrination and deconstructed and seen a whole new way that Jesus was elevated and and this evolves people to a better place out of the old time kind of hell-firing damnation gospel. But the question is I think they're spiraling and they've thrown everything against the wall even Trump down to project 2025 I mean they are really really trying to install a dictator and they're just going for it and I think, I don't know if they're going to stop. they're using the law to be their bully pulpit. Pray, vote and spread the word! From now to November share this channel. Republican Voters Against Trump has former Trump supporters explaining why they no longer support him. Sharing their videos will help defeat Trump and save our democracy in November!

I’m a teacher in the states, and what I love about this is that it shows a complete lack of understanding of kids and group dynamics. Look away? That’s not what students of a certain temperament do. I’m talking bright, idealistic, and anti authoritarian or even oppositional. Those students will challenge to presence of those posters as disruptively as possible every chance they get. They will recruit others to their cause. There will probably be vandalized and destroyed posters all over the state and there will be civil disobedience. Meanwhile the literacy rates in LA will sink even lower because the teachers just can’t catch a break.

I never had any questions. I've never heard anything I could relate to. I put this together yesterday. A little backstory. Bart Ehrman, a former fundamentalist, now atheist, bible scholar, became my favorite author. I listen to Jewish videos on the errors of Christianity. Videos that are on par with Dr. Ehrman's respect for the scriptures. This is what I posted on one of the Jewish websites (with an added edit for you). The Snake and the Worm: People prefer fantasy. The crucifixion story is as historical as Noah's ark or the waters parting for Moses to cross the sea. With that said, it doesn't matter if David is a historical figure. There is an individual behind the story, just as there is an individual behind the story of the crucifixion. I worked my way backwards through the Bible. I started with David as the Morning Star (Rv 22:16). His people set out from Babylon seeking a promised land, a heavenly home, the Garden of Eden, the kingdom prepared for you at the foundation of the world. David judged the gods and became the snake, the Ancient Serpent of Old, given the sense of a beast. As Arjuna inquired, what are the consequences of going to war? Arjuna became Job wondering why he suffers for no apparent reason. (Edit - While David has the sense of a beast, the Son of David is the word of the will, the lamp of the light, and the image of the substance of his Father. He is also the root and only begotten offspring of his Father, the Cornerstone of his work.) The Ancient Serpent of Old has his senses restored, his kingdom returned, and is Transfigured and revealed as the Ancient One of Days seated upon a thone on the Mount of Assembly, in the realm of Adam, the Christ, where it is forever peaceful, beyond the heavens. Further, Adam was not deceived (1Ti 2:14 NAB) Adam, the Christ, is a third-party mediator to this world and these heavens. The Son of David does what he sees the Father has done. I came into this world for judgment (Joh 9:39 NABO). I am a worm, hardly human, scorned by everyone, despised by the people. (Psa 22:7 NABO) Christ is Tranfigured and revealed to be Adam. God rises in the divine council, gives judgment in the midst of the gods. The gods neither know nor understand, wandering about in darkness, and (the foundations of all the worlds) shake. (Psa 82:1-5 NABO) David rides the donkey and the Bride of David rides the foal of the donkey. Adam rides a horse - of many colors, or aspects, or perspectives. White - The wine press I have trodden alone (Isa 63:3 NABO) Red - Do not think that I have come to bring peace (Mat 10:34 NABO) Black - Scales of judgment Pale Green - Christ rising up from the Abyss - all of Hades is at his heel - to ‘strike at’ or ‘grasp’ the heel or the head means to protect, guard, or watch over. the kingdom of God will be… given to a people that will produce its fruit. (Mat 21:43 NAB) in hope that creation itself would be set free from slavery to corruption (Rom 8:20-21 NABO)

Morals and virtue should be taught in the home. Yes schools can help in some ways. Problem today is that many Christians fail to teach things in the home and expect the schools to do it for them.

You make too much sense for a large segment of our population to grasp the idea that being a good role model and living an honest, decent life is the best poster to guide us.
