Beautiful through and through. I actually met Tony Bennett in of all places Anchorage, Alaska. I ran away from a life of problems to as far away a place as I could go to with the goal of starting over. I humbled myself and at the age of 35 took a job bagging groceries at a local supermarket. One late afternoon pitch black in the dead of winter I was at work bagging away and much too my surprise in my line I saw Tony Bennett waiting his turn in line all by himself with but a single box of cough drops. I have to admit I was actually quite embarrassed looking down making sure not to make eye contact the box of cough drops appeared while still avoiding eye contact while placing his item in the small bag I heard that raspy soft speaking voice of his in a warm wonderful tone a heart felt Thank you very much sir. I finally made a what was to meant be a quick look into his eyes while handing him his bag as to avoid being taken as rude I saw the warmth in his eyes and couldn't break eye contact I thanked him for his purchase as I handed him the bag he extended his hand to shake mine overwhelmed with his kindness I felt his warmth which blanketed me with happiness it was that which was instrumental in losing the shame and restored a bit of confidence in some little way. That bit of a boost enabled me to never avoided looking customers in the eye again. I was quickly noticed by a few different sales managers for the local Honda car dealership and after weeks of my resistance to the efforts on their part to go to work for them mainly scared about leaving a full time job in which I knew I would take home about $200 a week with my savings I would be able to survive quite awhile to take a job for commission only after several weeks they offered me triple my pay guaranteed in lieu of straight commission as long as I wanted . I put in my two week notice in to the store and went to work for them and after my first week ever selling anything the manager called me to his office on pay day handed me my check for the $600 he offered I took it smiling very content thanked him and just as I was walking out of the door he said would you like to see what you would have made if I you were on commission not salary I replied sure knowing I made the right pay option and he showed me the commission slip and it was for a little over $1800 it turns out he made a deal with the owner that he would personally pay my salary guarantee but he was to receive the commission I would have received, well after I saw that I immediately switched to commission only and subsequently Made $48,000 $58,000 then $68,000 respectively over the next three years in the early 1990's and never looked back. Thank You Mr. Tony Bennett.
