Hi Chris, great to see the Gouldians beginning there pre breeding molt. I have 10 chicks of different mutations in round 1 from 3 pairs this year having taken your advice a few years back now I think it was. I managed a total of 29 healthy birds last year. The plan is to let these 3 pairs go 3 rounds and then switch them out with another 3 pairs so hoping for an even more successful season this year 🤞. If anyone out there is thinking of beginning to breed these beautiful birds listen to this guys advice! Thanks again Chris and I hope all is well 🇬🇧 👍

Its better to leave them follow their cycles... I would say, let them be in their conditions and then you can plan when you are ready!

Hi Chris, let them have 3 months on a basic seed diet with eggfood 2 x a week, then have a month on a very basic diet, no treats and then start the breeding diet and they will soon come into condition. Keeping sexes apart during the moult and after helps them appreciate each other when you pair as you start the breeding season/diet.

While your female and males are separated, do the female ever lay eggs? If so, what do you do and how do you stop the egg laying?
@birdnerd3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes they do. In time they will stop or you can remove the males from their sight and that will help to stop laying eggs.

Hi Chris. I think, your black head male Gouldian is actually a female!
