3:27 - I think this is what finally won Atticus over. Rose was always portrayed as being remarkably free of any ethnic prejudice. She doesn't think twice about Atticus being Jewish any more than she really cared about Jack Ross being black. Atticus realizes this girl is a 'keeper' and asks her out to dinner. Fantastic. 💑

The actor did a wonderful job orportraying the hesitation of Rose finding out he was Jewish and acceptance that she would reject him and show hatred towards it for him like the Russia just had. He definitely opened up his heart once he knew he would be accpeted by her. Religio , race and all.

I did love the way that she said, "You're English now, but your still Jewish, what's the difference". However I do think that in a way she was using Jack Ross to torture her mother, I remember there was a scene where she was telling Lady Mary that she wanted to see the look on her mother's face when she told them they were getting married.

She used Jack Ross to get a rise out of her mother, or at least she would have if Lady Mary hadn’t put a stop to it. It was very immature and thoughtless of her, and Mr Ross deserved a lot better than just being used for his skin colour.

I both admired and was worried for Rose because of her free spirited and open-minded nature. In a world where class and background meant everything she was her cheery sweet self to everyone no matter their station. Servants, black people, poor people, jewish everyone was equal in her eyes. I just worried that she would unintentionally get herself into harms way, but everything worked out in her favor at the end and Im so happy for her!

I love the Atticus/Rose story line. I hate how Rose's mother is so anti-Jewish, like Count Rostov. Atticus knows what is coming when Rose introduces him as Jewish from Odessa.
@rachelcushing6428
@rachelcushing6428 2 жыл бұрын
As much as I hate Rose's mother, I respect the decision to make her an anti-Semite. It's historically accurate. I would have been ridiculous if they all were fine with the romance, it's the 1920s. My mom is Jewish and faced some prejudice marrying my dad, who is Christian. It would have been so, so, so much worse back then. I appreciate that they chose to showcase that dark side of history. Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it and all that. Antisemitism is still so prevelant today, but it's rarely talked about.

I can't believe the narrowmindedness and prejudice of that Russian dude. I mean, he and his people were themselves in some pretty bad trouble, living in exile after the criminal revolution, yet he still begrudged the Russian Jews to such an extent that he would rudely offend his British hosts, who were feeding him. The other Russian lady, the princess, was also extremely rude, although, in her case, it might have been personal as she and Violet loved the same man. Still, Isobel and Lord Merton were trying their best to be polite and accommodating, yet she showed them nothing but contempt. In any case, the Russians are portrayed very unflatteringly in DA.

Some of us are. Sadly, many would rather follow their prejudice than follow Christ. People claim Christ but don’t follow him. Jesus commanded us to love our neighbors as ourselves, no exemption clause for creed , color, nationality, or sexuality. Jesus wouldn’t stand for the hatred and oppression going on in my country. He would be turning over tables in anger from what he sees now.

Rose has matured a bit, but she seems more prim and proper than is plausible. I mean, she has had an affair with a married roue and another with a black jazz musician. While these potential scandals were scotched and Rose was able to make an unblemished debut into Society, here it almost seems as if she has been re-virginized.
