Thank you for sharing your story ❤It makes me so glad to hear that you have found a sustainable lifestyle that makes you feel good. I would love to hear more about what your diet looks like? I definitely relate to the food addiction side of things and feel like there are certain foods I can’t control myself around.

I was 4’11 and weighed 160 pounds. I felt like crap everyday, was overeating, and didn’t feel confident in my body. I started working out and then my doctor recommended mounjaro. Took it for 5 months and lost 55 pounds. It taught me that I did have an addiction to food and I would over eat or “boredom snack.” Yes, I got a lot of hate for taking the drug because “people wished to be my size.” Honestly, the drug didn’t just help me lose weight, it helped me form better eating habits and I am forever grateful that my doctor told me about it.

I’m currently still taking the drug. They say it’s a “lifetime” drug. I’ve been decreasing the dosage for awhile now. If I quit “cold turkey” the food cravings come back and I would immediately put on water weight. I still exercise constantly and eat a pretty balanced diet. People do consider this drug to be “easy way out” but it is not. There can be a lot of side effects with it. I mostly experienced nausea and vomiting for the first few months, but your body gets used to it. I’ve been taking it for a little bit over a year now and it has changed my life.

5 months to lose 55 lbs is an insanely short amount of time. Like… very short. Anyone out there reading this: generally a safe and sustainable loss of 55 lbs will take 1 year or slightly more

My back was so bad i could barely walk the past 5 years, ballooned to 346lbs in January 2023. I'm only 5'2". Had gastric sleeve surgery. Now 201, 11 months out. My back was pain free within a few weeks, and I'm hiking like I used to & feel like I'm in my 20s. I chose surgery because I knew I'd have to be on the medication forever to help me. It helped I was already eating fairly healthy, just way too much!

Doc, I’m like you have been on intermittent fasting for almost 18 months, exercise 4-7 times a week. I’ve lost 43 pounds and still losing. Intermittent fasting for me is my way of life now and both my husband and I are doing it. I try educating some of the nurses I work with but it’s a work in progress.😅😅😅

Thank you for sharing this. I’m currently pretty much bed bound due to back pain. Spinal stenosis, sciatic nerve pain, nerve damage and more from a back energy. I had to stop working after getting hurt at work in 2016 and have gained weight because I can’t walk without a walker or cane. A doctor told me recently that I need to lose 100 pounds to have a fusion. My pain management doctor said it’s insane to to think I can do that when my pain is daily at 8/10. So I’m trying a stimulator and hopefully can start walking soon and work my back to light exercise and lose weight to help my back and overall health. Hoping it helps

I'm currently on the left. 42 after three kids (15,11, & 2). SI issues have made exercise hard, even with PT. It's a bad spiral. Weight aggravates the back, but then the back pain makes it hard to exercise. By the end of the work day I am exhausted from teaching all day and dealing with the pain. Diet alone isn't doing much. I've been the 220 +/- 5 since before my last pregnancy. And only got to 230 during pregnancy. My next appointment with my GP is Friday. I'm going to ask her about trying a medication for weight loss.

So grateful you are honest and share! These medications seem really helpful! However the COST makes it out of reach for so many. I know my insurance will definitely fight , not cover it. Truly is a shame when you have a medication that could help so many , but the cost is so extreme no one can afford to use it.❤

You're so cool to me but especially for this. I was always overweight too until I developed anorexia which then turned into bulimia and then basically BED so I've been all over the spectrum. Then I got pregnant with my first baby and weighed in at 215 again after giving birth. Took about a year and a half after my son was born to reallyentally crack down and for the first time, completely changed my lifestyle and relationship with food and managed to lose the weight in a healthy and safe way. Pregnant with my 2nd and final baby now and after this one is born I do plan to save the money and eventually get my excess belly fat and skin removed because like you, I was overweight or obese for most of my life and those stubborn fat stores just wont go away on their own, but im happy that I now have a healthy relationship with food and my body and I'm so thankful for that.

I've been poor, monitarily for quite a couple of seasons.Im rich in love and working on being rich in spirit again I am currently on a journey of finding the right dr for me as just a family dr to start.I have cronic issues and had given up on the medical community for about 5 yrs.Thats not helping my health iether so im on a journey to find a dr im not afraid to talk to.That i can aguire a mutual trust relationship with that values appts that are more than 15 min long sometimes . Do you have any tips on finding the right dr.if you have had drs that throw to many medications at u.only to retire or quit and leave you with drs that dont want to give any medication.there has to be a balance. Id like to find it.

The only thing wrong with promoting the GLP-1 medication is that there is a world wide shortage, also for my diabetic patients that really need it. The shortage is caused because too many people take it for weight loss. In the Netherlands we as GP's are now told not to make any new prescriptions to diabetic patients, because of the shortage, even if it is the best drug to prescribe for them in their treatment plan. I'm fine if you promote it for weight loss when there is no shortage anymore, but right now it's causing an ethical dilemma.

I question the 'food is an addiction' narrative... I know that this is a commonly used phrase and a way to express the use of food for things other than hunger... but that's just it... there are other healthy reasons for consuming food than hunger... I think the lesson is recognizing emotional state rather than equating food as something to be feared or avoided as one may do with an addictive substance. Just my thoughts... I'm glad you, doc, were able to find something that works for you and enables you to take care of your body.
