LAFD Battles Greater Alarm Commercial Structure Fire | Pico-Robertson

Los Angeles Fire Department was called out to the 9000 block of west Pico Boulevard for a reported structure fire. Engine 58 was first on scene and found a 50' x 100' commercial building with heavy smoke showing. Two additional task forces were requested. Units went in the offensive mode and began an interior attack on the fire. The fire then started to become more stubborn and more difficult to get a handle on. As a result, the operation switched into the defensive mode. Firefighters made an exterior attack with master streams and large diameter hand lines. After a couple hours, the fire was put under control. There was a partial roof collapse where the fire unit was located. The building was the site of a possible drug operation according to officials. One firefighter was transported to a local hospital with a non-life threatening illness caused by heat. Arson teams are investigating.

Nice! Awesome footage! I'm familiar with all the LAFD abbreviations for units, I know Engine's and Ladder's, and US&R's but I don't know what an: AR , CE, EA, EM, HE, JT, LD, RM, and A TP are. Again, Nice Video!

AR is arson, CE is CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), EM is EMS, JT (is JHAT) and I'm not sure what the others are haha

Odd to see a major and highly respected department like this using small calibre hand streams on a large fire.

I see 2.5" run to the house as well as 1.75" hand lines being used. That is fairly normal. The smaller 1.75" is much easier in close to get shots up to the ceiling as it more easily bent and aimed up (while still keeping the firefighter on their feet). Hard to tell exactly what their strategy and tactics were at that specific fire, but I am sure they had a plan.

It is technically allowed but they don't buy tower ladders because the streets are narrow in LA. That's why tillers work best for them

I don't have a problem with Tillers, although I prefer the tower ladders but could LAFD at least buy pre piped tillers? Running hose up the ladder looks like its something out the 1970's

Огромный перерасход воды! Огромное количество не нужный людей. Бессмысленное и бестолковое действие пожарных. Можно было применить к примеру пену. Поливать непосредственно очаги горения, чем просто лить воду в никуда. Приезжайте в Россию, поучитесь у наших пожарных. Как Российские пожарники тушат крупные пожары, намного меньшими затратами человеческих ресурсов и ресурсов техники. Не говоря уже о расходе воды. И за меньшее время.
