Great video Steve. Finally got around to watching. Still in so much shock. I have been to Lahaina many times but last Sept '22 I got married and brought my bride over for the first time. We must have walked Front Street a hundred times during our 10 days. What we remember most was of course the restaurants, gift shops, but we also played ping pong every day at the Outlet Mall and watched the hula shows. Take care. Aloha! P.S. I have a thought...instead of a video do still shot pictures with a split screen. Like on the left side show the before picture and on the right side do the now picture. That would bring alot of memories back for sure.

Aloha Steve and So Many Thanks. Yea, I knew you'd been coming here a long time. Sorry I did not get your permission. I just wanted to "highlight" the three generations of your family's love for Lahaina Town and Front Street. I was lucky to visit on my 25th wedding anniversary in Oct 2022. We island hopped, but stopped on Maui first because we have family that lives close to Lahaina. It was not my first time to maui or Hawaii. We got married on Oahu. Anyway, we decided to take a drive and ended up there and walked along Front St. We were amazed by the Banyon tree. I'm so thankful we got to experience it before the devastation occurred. My heart goes out to everyone affected. Too many lives were lost and I can't imagine the PTSD the survivors must have. DEFINITION W/O YOUR POLITICS: wild·fire [ˈwīl(d)ˌfī(ə)r] NOUN a large, destructive fire that spreads quickly over woodland or brush.
@TheAgentAssassin Жыл бұрын
@@MauiTravelVideos But that's the problem there is many instances of woodland and brush still green right next to molten metal. Even with leaves intact. Seems like metal is more flammable in this fire than anything else. In your very own video you have canvas umbrellas unaffected by the fire right next to melted metal framing. Some of the framing looks to be steel. 17:49 Last time I bbq my burgers the metal grill didn't melt. It would take tons of fuel to melt steel , way more wood than those buildings had. Steve i have a few questions. Ok Cheeseburger paradise is where i beleive lahaina broiler was. Where your standing at the stop sign on the right there was a pool hall. I walked down the wall sidewalk so many times. Ok here goes all the ? Is the L still on the mountain? I went to high school on top of the mountain it was a old missionary is it still there? When we graduated we would hike up to the L and line it with torches. The road going up to the old high school is where my parent's and i lived. I pulled up the satellite and saw that my old home is gone. Is the Old Pineapple Train Station still there? Did the fire go thru Kaanapali? My father designed the Whaler Condo's is it still there? My girlfriend Michelle dad managed the Royal Lahaina is it still there? Lol it had a great Disco bar there even though to young to drink we danced till closing 🎉. So so many memories. I cried when I saw the news that Lahaina has burnt down. All the places that I remember in my teenage years are gone but I still have my memories. I would appreciate any info on my questions. Mahalo and Mele Kalikimaka to you and your family and Hau'oli makahiki hou. Thank you for making this video. From a old islander

Aloha and Thank You. Awesome memories and I really appreciate your message. The fire did not touch the Lahaina Cannery Mall or the Lahaina Gateway shopping center across the street. It did burn the houses in Waihekule down to the Post Office. I work at the old Kaanapali Beach Hotel (KBH) which is now Outrigger. Nothing in the Kaanapali Beach area was touched at all. Royal Lahaina, too, is fine. Most of the damage was from Papalaua to Puumana and front street. The old Pineapple Train Station is still there. Certainly, the "L" is still there and the seniors go there every year to celebrate graduation. It's a tradition that still lives. You have many memories to keep close to your heart, and I'm so happy to know you enjoyed Front Street (truly) in its "Hay Day" so-to-speak. It's a Special Place. Share with me any details you want. Steve, what will happen to the small business owners in Lahaina? When can the homeowners get to rebuild? How much will the Hawaiian State Government help the owners rebuild?
@MauiTravelVideos Жыл бұрын
Aloha and Thank You. It will be several years before any "rebuilding" takes place, and there are many talks and discussions that will happen before then. The County of Maui, the Hawaii Gov't, and the federal relief assistance groups will play big roles here. Money is not the problem. We ALL have received a lot of money from FEMA and the American Red Cross. The challenge that is almost impossible, is to unite into one group all the different groups, activists, native Hawaiians, etc. into a cohesive, well-thought-out plan for Lahaina. The Politics alone will keep it from happening in my lifetime. Example: There is a large group that now wants Lahaina Town returned to the Kingdom of Hawaii. Whatever that means. Best Aloha Wishes.l

@MauiTravelVideos Жыл бұрын
Yea, it's a Palm Tree. Islands in Polynesia have a lot of them. Most are filled with water and some, typically, withstand the 60+ (average) wildfires we have on Maui each month. The recent fire that almost destroyed the Kapalua Airport left some palm trees green, too. It happens. The 70mph++ fire was sticking to mostly old wood and flammable items. Not green stuff. If you're looking for an "indicator, move on to something else. Good Luck.

Shocking to see. How was it ever possible the local building code allowed so many wooden structures to exist?
@MauiTravelVideos Жыл бұрын
Aloha and Thank You. We had a fudge store and several businesses, including my Lahaina Lobster Roll, in a very old wood structure over the ocean. I guess "grandfathered" for many years, but a total fire trap just waiting to happen. All were historic building in a "Historic District" that had tight Historic restrictions. Wood signs of a certain make, etc. A "Historic District" operates within a different set or rules and by-laws.

If no one has been allowed in who rummaged through. You can tell some stuff has been stacked
@MauiTravelVideos Жыл бұрын
Of Course. Corp. of Engineers. Cars were moved off the streets, so I could enter. Big pieces of steel were stacked, to get ready for the day when the cleanup will begin. There are still many zones left to open. Many have not had the chance to re-enter. It's been a slow process.

Take a good look at what was destroyed and you will see the things that Father hates. He absolutely despises motor vehicles and so do I. They have got to go in order to make room for horses, donkeys and carts.

Yea, I grew up on a horse. Bring back the Asses. Er ... Donkeys.

Please watch the video and you'll see I LOST EVERYTHING. You can start by helping us. We have no "home" like you to go back to. Appreciate your home and don't worry about us. We're fine without your ugliness.

Intentional fire 😥
@MauiTravelVideos Жыл бұрын
Yes, the 8 simultaneous fires were all set intentional, at the same day. Oh, Wait. The KULA fire destroyed 2.500 upcountry acres and many homes and started well before the Lahaina fire. There were others, too. Intentional? Yes, dream of something other than politics. Thank You for never coming to Maui.

US government failed to restore Lahaina.
@MauiTravelVideos Жыл бұрын
WHAT? It just burned. A new zone was just opened. Many have not even been to their residence. And you're making a political statement already? Hold on. There's time later for your nonsense.

OK, so let's cut the fluffy word salad.! What good is this video? When r people gonna start the rebuild process!!!! When do construction materials arrive? When do people get to permit a new building?! Or are they just gonna squat in hotel lobbies and sing stupid songs!!!! WTF
@MauiTravelVideos Жыл бұрын
Minimum 2 years before any building begins. No construction materials on order. As you see in the national media, many here on Maui want to stop tourists from coming. Different opinions and different agendas at play here. Thanks for staying away. Please, continue to stay away. We're better for it.

With your attitude, I would never come within a football field length of you. I'm sorry for what happened to you and your wife, but your bitterness is being taken out on the wrong people. People are curious about what happened there. I will pray for you and your family.
