Not really? It just depends in the roles. Yes Avinash tiwari was extremely intense but that's because his role as Majnu required that much amount of intensity. Majnu is someone who goes mad in love- hence the role required Avinash Tiwari to act completely insane. Whereas if we look at Ranbir roles like Rockstar and Tamasha, he didnt really need to be as intense as Avinash Tivary. Yes we can see the development of Ranbir slowly losing his mind in Rockstar but he doesnt go completely insane like Avinash Tiwari. Ranbir could still perform singing shows and concerts despite him slowly losing his mind. Ranbir was still conscious of his surroundings, he did not lose it completely- whereas in Laila Majnu, Avinash loses all conscious of his surroundings, he has lost it completely. We literally see Avinash talk to the trees and skies as he questions his own existence. So for such a role, we do need a huge amount of intensity and Avinash nailed it. So you cant compare Ranbir with him- when Ranbir still hasn't yet played a role like Majnu.

You know that's the problem with you guys. You people try very hard to seek a deep meaning. What happened to having fun with movies instead of psychoanalyzing every detail? 2nd thing- Imtiaz Ali is a very average director. But you guys have set it in your mind that if a guy has long messy hair, He's an artist and you're supposed to like his movies. NO, Tamasha was a pathetic movie but people will never accept it cause they don't want to look dumb. You don't believe me, Ask 10 people what they understood from the movie Tamasha. You'll get 10 different pretentious answers. 3rd thing- The last movie SRK was in called "when Harry met Sejal". I have a fuzzy memory. I can't remember who directed that masterpiece.

If you did not like the movie, don't misguide the people. a magical story directed on the valleys of Jammu and kashmir. Laila, a flirt searching for love. The love story develops slowly and just because there is not a kissing scene that does not means you cannot feel their love story build. They start by sharing their numbers, long calls and finally date. She falls for him and he fall for her and you can see that in the song 'sarphiri'. Laila did a perfect job in her role. And there was nothing more she could do because at the end it was all about Avinash's majnun madness. And about the stalking part. When a guy stalks a girl he follows her from behind, from the shadows not from the front, in the light. But in the movie you can clearly see Majnu's jeep in front of laila's car. And at a certain point when she tells him to leave he leaves. But the next day they meet again in a wedding. And they realise that they are meant to be together no matter what Songs are the best part. There are 10 songs and you will never feel a bit bore during those 3-4 mins song because they fit the moments perfectly. It's one of the best movies of 2018 Do not believe this stupids review You should surely watch it

Following a weak start which weirdly glorifies stalking, Laila Majnu then becomes a thing of beauty - a film to be felt, admired and experienced. Imtiaz Ali has poured all his romanticism and passion into crafting Majnu. The last 45 minutes are just pure cinematic magic. Also Avinash Tiwary is an absolutely incredible actor.
@vibhumalik32472 жыл бұрын
look it's not about "glorifying stalking" or anything like that, something which you'd least expect coming from a man like Imtiaz Ali ! the epic of Laila-Majnu has been like that, it's been a mad-ride right from the very beginning and imo, to perfectly capture the essence of it, to sort of mould it into a contemporary piece, that "stalking" part fit in properly again, not "glorifying" it

One of the biggest hints that I have seen people miss is the fact that Laila and Qais were childhood friends who didn't remember each other (as hinted by their discussion in the car and the last song). They already had a *special* connection. In today's world where we are doped with physical intimacy (ex. Kabir Singh) and masala in every romantic, it is going to be hard to find the development of the Laila-Qais relationship merely through conversations. But I think it was done pretty well. I very much respect everyone's opinion. This is just my personal view. PS: I am 110% sure that the second half was ghost directed by Imtiaz Ali.

Judging a millenial old story by todays social standards is ridiculous and movies are not an objective topic that can be judged on basic fixed quantifiable points. @@Cloud-ux4od Even I didn't watch it coz I don't go to theaters to watch movies. Basically I'm not a big fan of Bollywood. And my choice of movies are mostly where I can relate to some character. Here in this movie I don't really relate to any character. But I love the story of Laila Majnu. It's being told to us since childhood. Coz its a 7th century Arabian legend. Many Sufi poets and Islamic scholars give their(Laila Majnun) example to speak about pure virgin love. Madness in love. Basically finding peace with the idea of being in love rather than actually wanting to be with that person. Thats about the divine love. That's how Sufism comes from. Falling madly in the divine love of God without seeking any form or structure of it. Just the idea that it's omnipresent. I just watched the songs. And I literally could feel the love. 😍😛 The depiction of majnun gave me goosebumps. Awinash looks promising. I'll watch it someday on TV maybe. 😁
@Cloud-ux4od6 жыл бұрын
very well said , you are full of wisdom lady , Respect your thoughts .. I also feel the same way, to me its like someone is in love with the idea of love .. Sufism truly connect a person with the universe if someone know the right password to connect with it. sometime i feel scripture books limit our understanding of the Creator. there is an emptiness in all of us and we are always trying to fill it but thats the never ending thirst. I don't know sometime what one find in another person that create the divine love in him/her. this days i am searching those answers , soul searching :) Rumi said well in his quote " Silence is the language of God , all else is poor translation". now let me tell u something honestly 1st it was your beautiful name that created a mysterious aura that attracted me but now its your soul through your words what attracted me the most , you really have a beautiful soul.

@@Cloud-ux4od OMG 🙈😂 Thank you for so much appreciation. I just love to go deeper into seeking love. I find the peace of my soul in loving ALLAH. And praying. And talking to him all the time. Making duas sometimes and sometimes just complaining about daily stuff 😂😂 I know I'm weird. But surely my (our) creator loves me whatsoever crazy I'm. Everyone has its own path of finding that peace of soul. It's not just through Sufism or some particular religion. You just have to connect with the creator of the universe. Whatever makes you feel happy. Nowadays the definition of love has changed alot. It's all about being on the surface. Nobody wants to fall in love with the soul. Everyone seeks the best looking person or maybe someone with good amount of money. And I really can't comprehend how do people find peace in that kind of materialistic love(which I don't consider as love)? Maybe I'll die single with this mindset which is considered old school and mainstream by people around me. 😂😄 I just wish to fall in love this way. The love beyond expectations and demands. I know aaj kal sabke demands hote h. Needs hoti h. But I'm trying my best to be independent so that I don't have to marry someone based on his status and looks alone. Though it matters somehow. But once you connect with someone's soul. No other worldly pleasures and things fascinate you. But that's all a dream. It's practically impossible to find such love. Sorry I'm bragging about this "divine" love thing. But didn't I told you I'm weird? 😛 Thank you for baring with me and reading my long replies 😂

I think you should read more about Sufism, and then review this particular movie. Your opinions might have a better solid ground.

Avinash Tiwary's leading actor debut was perhaps the next strongest debut after Ranveer Singh's. Only reason I would place Ranveer above him is Ranveer's persona and confidence, he has a X factor from his first scene of first movie. But performance to performance, Laila Majnu was much more demanding than Band Baja Baraat and Avinash nailed it!

I don't understand why critics never understood it correctly. Even Audiance is was will be in love with laila Majnu 2018 movie. Perhaps this movie is underrated because of critics like you .... You shout for bhai shirt opening scene but remain silence when a new comer make your cry by just saying one word... "Lai....la......."

Sucharita is so right. Avinash has such a sexy voice and that scene where he faints after seeing Laila is beyond amazing. We get to know that he is no longer the confident guy but he is gradually succumbing to psychosis. Pure emotions. Avinash Tiwary makes one cry with his suffering. Best actor of the century.

I knew about this film from the time of its release in 2018 and had heard good things about it all these years. But, I happened to watch it only now in 2025, and boy, what a film! I wouldn’t compare it with any other film, but would just say that this is love in its most “naked” form. And I when watched the scene where Qais “collapses” on seeing Laila, I repeated it at least 3 times. And am so glad to see that Sucharita had highlighted that scene in her review. I just wish this film was given its due when it was released in 2018 (I am including myself in the blame for not watching this film when it released).

Atleast I’m happy that bollywood is progressing towards a receptive portrayal of content making in terms of plotline through such underrated films .. 💯 i would rate laila majnu a solid 8/10 due to it’s introducion of new faces and out of the box emotional engagement. A Chef’s kiss for all the elite audience out there ! Imtiaz Ali has his own way of conveying characters more like through gestures,body language etc. And much more instead of dialogue deliveries.

Because people i mean most of them like simple rom coms like Jab we met but minority ( I didnt want to use intelligent ppl but they are) like and understand the undercurrent of these kind of movies. Tamasha was finest work of Imtiaz till now but it failed on box office. Same way Laila Majnu is a masterpiece for ppl like us but I think this one would do good.

Make sure you get to know what the movie exactly was...... Imtiaz Ali is much more than your imagination. It's just focus on intensic love, I don't believe there was any drawbacks weather it's direction,story,music,acting or anything
