LAKE DISTRICT FELL RUNNING | THE LANGDALE HORSESHOE FELL RACE | ROUTE RECCE | 2023

Today's run is a recce of the Langdale Horseshoe Fell Race taking place October 7th 2023.
The race is organised and marshalled by Ambleside AC. A brilliant running club in the heart of the Lake District.
It's a category AL (i.e. hardest ascent profile and long distance). It's roughly 13.1 miles with a total elevation of 1450 meters.
The cut off timings are quite tight (for me). The start and finish is at The Old Dungeon Ghyll hotel at the top end of the valley.
The Langdale Valley is quintessentially 'Lake District' and is one of my favourite areas of the Lakes, it's an awesome place to run.
I'm looking forward to this race, perhaps I'll see some of you there.

Stunning weather and good luck John. Only 13 miles it seemed a lot longer. Those chp 2 and chp3 look challenging if the weather is poor/bad. Enjoy and thanks for sharing.

Another great vid John. If you managed Borrowdale OK then you'll have no issues with the cut offs in this, I think they're a bit easier. One minor point Esk Hause is pronounced as in 'pause' not as in 'house' - it's an easy one to miss 😃

Good to see you out again John. I ran the four far Northern fells a couple of weeks back: Carrock - High Pike - Knott - Gt Calva. 14.1 miles in four and a half hours inc. stops... so I don't think I'll be entering any fell races anytime soon LOL! Yet to explore the ones around Bow Fell so looking forward to it ... although did manage to smash both nearside tyres at 05:30 last Sunday morning on a pot hole on Wrynose, so I'm a bit wary of that area now!

@@lakelandtrailrunner - Yep. Both blown. I had to limp it VERY slowly back down to civilisation. No signal, and no way a recovery truck would have made it up!
