Conquering the Lake Como Trail Race: Our 30km Journey Through the Italian Mountains | UTLAC30

As we headed out to Italy, myself and Liga were both super excited about our first big trail running adventure of the year, the Lake Como Trail 30km, UTLAC30. We arrived in the stunning town of Lecco, checked into our hotel which had stunning views across the beautiful Lake Como and we collected our race numbers ready for the event. Being a mountainous race route, we really didn't know what to expect and maybe we got more than we bargained for. We had some lovely flowing trails to run, incredible views of Lake Como, but also some of the most challenging and technical trails that we have ever taken on! We travelled out to Italy for the first big adventure of 2023 and, boy, did we get one...

Just need to help Liga with use of the straps on the poles- up from the bottom instead of straight in from the top. Better leverage and safer if you fall.

Like I said in the video Richard, Liga had never used poles before. They were actually my poles and they were way to long for her anyway so I don't think it would have made a lot of difference. To be honest I only gave her my poles to help her stop slipping back down the climb because there was no traction and it was so step!

It looks like an incredible race! I just entered the Lake Como Trail Marathon in September. I have to provide a medical certificate, which includes; Electrocardiogram at rest and stress test, spirography and urine test! Did you have to provide a medical certificate to enter this race? And do you have any recommendations on where I can get this type of test done? It’s my first run abroad.

I'm pretty sure a lot of races in Europe require you to do a medical Rachel. I've had to do them for all the races I've run in France and Italy, although yours sounds a lot more thorough! I'd recommend contacting your GP and see what they say. So doctors will do it for a fee and so won't do it at all! I hope you get it sorted out and best of luck with your Marathon, you'll love Lake Como 🏃‍♀️😊

Pro tip: always point the sharp end of the poles forward when carrying them so that one does not poke it into the eye of a runner behind. 🫣

I always make sure of that if there's any other runners around Joakim. I've been using poles for around 10 years now and I've been hit by other runners poles quite a few times over the years so I'm always careful 👍 Obviously when you're trying to use poles and film with a Gopro all at the same time it can get tricky!
