"The descent of Wetherlam Edge is both steep and treacherous. There is a very faint path and boulders that will make the scramble very difficult so take your time as falling off the ridge is very dangerous". I subscribe to AllTrails and that's what it had to say about Wetherlam Edge. Well done the pair of you for safely negotiating it. You had great views from Great Carrs and the 360 from Wetherlam was stunning. The light and shadows on the hills was fabulous. I was up on Wetherlam a couple of weeks back. Parked at Walna Scar and went up via Black Sails. The views are superb. Thanks for sharing. Looks like you had an epic day out. Thanks for the heads up about Wetherlam Edge. Not for the faint hearted or me for that matter! Cheers

Hi David, Thanks for watching 🙏 I mapped the route through Outdoor Active and I knew the route down would be steep.. As steep as Prison Band 'or so I though...' Wetherlam Edge was an experience to say the least.. We got to a point not far from Wetherlam summit where the ground just disappeared, thats the point where we knew it was going to be interesting. We were especially careful as our legs were pretty shot at by then and one mistake could have been quite serious. We were massively relieved when we reach some sort of safe path. When we got back I researched Wetherlam Edge in a bit more detail and I did see that passage you shared... and thanked our lucky stars we made the descent without any trips. Thanks for watching again and keep tuned.. 👍🏻 All the best Matthew & Sue

Two years ago today we went up Wetherlam Edge, over Wetherlam and on to Black Sails. We were supposed to be going back down the same way but it was that bad going up we headed “off piste” steeply down by Low Keld Gill to Greenburn Reservoir. Not a place for the faint-hearted. Well done on getting down.

Hi Tony, Thanks for watching 👍🏻 To be honest I very nearly did the route in the opposite direction which would mean going up Wetherlam Edge but I decided to views might be better the way we did it.. Not that I got to see any views as I had my eyes fixed on where my feet and hands were..😂 Thanks for watching again All the best Matthew & Sue

Thanks George, we definitely did… I’ll never go down Wetherlam Edge again… up might be a struggle but ok’ish.. we went to the Eltermere Inn and the lass showed us to our table.. I asked if I could have a drink at the bar first.. ‘No’ she said, ‘I’ll show you to your table’… by now I would have drunk puddle water… We sat down at the table and she asked if we wanted water ‘for the table’ seeing the table wasn’t on fire I asked for a Loweswater Gold.. again I was told ‘No, make yourself comfortable and we will come and take your drinks order..’ by now, I was beside myself… Eventually I did get my pint which once tipped didn’t return until empty.. 😂😂 Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

Haha, I plan my days around the sun and it has been glorious today and tomorrow over the lakes but unfortunately I am laid up full of cold :o(. I need to do all of those 3 so a real useful video of me and it is quite frightening how 'some' paths on OS maps can be very dangerous indeed and you do not find out until you are on them, or some kind soul warns you. The drone footage certainly gave you a great view of the route up and that view from Great Carrs was stunning, even better from the air! Those tablets must be good if you are only on a 1 in the pain scale, not sure what benefit food poisoning will do mind with that year old mars bar 😳. You saved the best view to the end on Wetherlam and I have done a few descents on my behind and not enjoyed one second of them. To be honest, I would be very glad seeing a little green car like that, especially if it was parked on my drive but to be serious, 8.8 miles was good going especially all the ups, downs and then the decent of doom! Cheers Alan

Hi Alan, I can’t tell you… that descent down from Wetherlam wasn’t comfy at all… I thought the Prison Band was bad but that was another level.. You’re dead right about the os map paths.. you look at the contour lines but you never think it will be hair raising!! I’ve had a bad knee for years and I’ve just started taking Collagen type 2 tablets.. 🤷♂️ I’m not temping fate but they seem to be working 🤞🏻. I just watched your film on Mellbreak.. another fantastic film 👍🏻 but thunder did strike twice for you.. 😄 I did laugh when you hadn’t taken off the protective cover on the drone.. however, once I filmed over 5 minutes of fabulous footage over striding edge, Helvellyn and Swirral edge .. only to find when I got back I hadn’t pressed the record button.. 😂🤦♂️ I’m pleased to say we are still ok after eating the pre historic mars bar.. 😄 Hope Mrs Metalman is all well.. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻 Keep in touch 😉👍🏻👍🏻

@@crag_mavericks - I was due to have a knee replacement 5 years ago, which got postponed (long story) and then i was in agony with my other knee in the first lock down and could not walk a mile without having to come home, I was in so much pain. I did a video (I should do a follow up) about 3 sets of tablets I had just started to take and (touch wood) they have been brilliant as I have had no problems with either knee since :o)
@crag_mavericks8 ай бұрын
@AlanMETALMAN you need to do that follow up film!! I used to be a lot!! Heavier than I am now and my knees were always aching to the point I thought I need some sort of surgery.. I lost a lot of weight and the knee pain did go less but it would always flair up. I always say it’s no wonder old men are grumpy.. it’s the pain 😂😂 But since taking these tablets 🤞🏻🤞🏻 Hope your cold gets better soon.. make sure you administer plenty hot toddies 😉👍🏻

@@crag_mavericks - yes, defo need a follow up, just watched that old video and I had just started taking my tablets and just starting to get a bit of relief but I think it would be beneficial to let people know they have worked for me. I am supposed to be going to the Whitby Goth Festival on Saturday and any more hot toddies and I will still be over the limit then :o)

Came down Wetherlam edge yesterday and you’re quite right….never again! We think that anything with edge in the name around here is going to be bloody brutal. PS…..what pills are you on for your joints!!!! Great vid, just subscribed, keep ‘em coming! Nick and Liz

Hi Nick & Liz, Thanks for watching and thank you for your comments. Going up would be too bad but coming down... It got me when we approached the edge and the ground just disappeared.. You know then it's going to be steep!! 🤦🏻♂️ I have been bothered with bad knees for years... I've been to see physios and all sorts but nothing has really worked. I get pain on the inside of me knees, one Physio said it could be Bursitis where the muscle attaches.. but I never had any swelling. I was told I could try and strengthen my knees with exercises or go for further investigations / operations.... I tried the exercises and just put up with the pain and took loads of Ibuprofen. At that time I could run maybe 5k but that night and for weeks after I'd be in agony. I then saw something on Facebook about Collagen Type 2 tables and thought I'd give them a go. Sue takes and swears by Type 1 Collagen for hair and skin but we had never heard of type 2. I bought some from Holland & Barrett and they made a difference pretty much straight away.. I can only tell you they have worked for me... brilliantly. I now run 5k - 10k every other day and, touch wood, my knees have never been better... The link below is the tablets I buy.. they stink of garlic but I put up with the small as they are doing a great job 👍🏻 www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/holland-barrett-collagen-ucii-t2-40mg-capsules-60061502 I'm just working on our next film which should be out pretty soon.. Sharp Edge - The Truth.. Thanks for watching again 🙏 All the best Matthew & Sue

@@crag_mavericks Hi Matthew and Sue….thanks for the info and yes, we’ve just put in an order! Currently on the turmeric with black pepper and fish oils but will give anything a go for a bit more mobility. I had a knee operation for a sports injury around 15 years ago and have suffered a bit in the past year with stiffness and arthritis. Had a steroid injection last year that got me through the walks in the Lakes then and am currently having prp treatment for my knee this year which so far has been great. Still a bit stiff at times but it really has helped. We’re here for the week now and have some biggies planned for tomorrow and Wednesday if the weather picks up. Will keep an eye out for your next clip! Cheers Nick and Liz

🤞🏻I really hope they work for you.. there’s nothing worse than that nagging pain… I’ve heard Turmeric is pretty good though 👍🏻. We really hope you have a great week in the Lakes, and enjoy your walks.. fingers crossed the weather will be kind. We have a small base in Ambleside and are having a flying visit on Thursday for a night, but back out filming in the mountains next Thursday. Sounds very interesting what you have planned… Have a great week!! 😉👍🏻 All the best Matthew & Sue

Is the decent into little langdale the same brutal route you took down? Im Planning on decending back down to greenburn beck from Wetherlam. Il also be following the beck up past the Halifax remains to great carrs buttress for the scramble. Bagging swirl how and Wetherlam
@crag_mavericks5 ай бұрын
Hi Dan, Thanks for watching. I'm pretty sure that any decent off Wetherlam heading North or West will be pretty exciting, a definite bum shuffle decent. Would be a bit sketchy if it was wet and slippy.... We missed out the Halifax remains as we were pushed for time, but we will do that on another film. The Great Carrs Buttress scramble looks a great climb and especially after your grade 1 scramble decent down Wetherlam Edge it will seem easy.. But a fabulous scramble all the same. Must say that would be a lot better way up Great Carrs than the massive trudge we did up Wet Side Edge. Enjoy your walk and let me know how it went.. 😉👍🏻 Cheers Matthew & Sue

Hiya & thanks for watching 👍🏻 We did Wetherlam back in March 2022 which we filmed and is on our channel. The route we took was really good.. you first set up Wetherlam via Lad Stones Ridge which is tough but probably as good a route up as you'll get.. But if you take your time I'm sure you will be fine. Once you reach Wetherlam all the hard work is done and the walk down past Levers water just wonderful.. This is the link to the walk on the 'Walk Lakes' Website... www.walklakes.co.uk/walk_259.html Link to our 'Wetherlam' film kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2W1lGB7e7ijraMsi=CTjTb7RCiQMqvGy7 Thanks for watching again 🙏
