Thanks so much for this video! I struggle with my mental health as well and sometimes get panic attacks on walks like this. However, I did this exact walk last week and had no issues. I watched your video beforehand, so I knew exactly what to expect, and knew I could do it. I enjoyed the walk so much more because of it!

Fantastic Abbie really appreciate the work you're putting into these vids showcasing not just the beauty of the wild but the conservation and the collective responsibility we all need to take to preserve these places. I climbed Skiddaw last year and I like you was exhilarated from start to finish. Mind you I had to rush to the top as a fast approaching weather front was quickly filling the top with cloud and alas the summit was cloudy. But here's the thing - it still felt amazing watching the clouds scuttle across the summit with little gaps between giving teasing glances of panorama below, the whole making the landscape feel alive, dynamic with ever changing moods

I took up distance walking about 13 years ago following a kidney and pancreas transplant. Now very much an experienced walker. I did Skiddaw for the first time a few weeks ago and absolutely loved it. Thank you for the video it was great to watch and brought back such good memories, and yes, i stayed on the proper path as one ought to.

Hi Abbie, superb video (as always). Did Skiddaw with my 12 yr old son, James, August 2018 but it was blowing a gale, was very cold, very very wet and we couldn’t see further than 20 metres in any direction. So thank you for this vid I now know what views we missed and has encouraged me to go again, when hopefully its clear views all the way!! Keep up the great work, Craig.

What an awesome place Skiddaw is, I walked up it in 2019 on a lovely Summer's day. It is the oldest mountain in the Lake District, at 500 million years old, as you said. The views are almost impossible to take in, thanks for making this evident in your great video.

It's a tough climb, especially by Little Man. As Abbie points out though, you'll be stopping to take in the stunning views. Abbie mentions keeping to the maintained path. I climbed Skiddaw in 2018 in similar weather. Thanks for the memories Abbie ❤

Great film, Abbie thank you. I'm yet to walk Skiddaw but I will at some point as I aim to get to the Lakes more often (I live in Northern Snowdonia at the foot of the Carneddau). Well done for pointing out the issues of people cutting corners; this is something I'm really passionate about too and it just really upsets me and annoys me at how lazy human beings really can be. I'm all for taking the path less travelled, but there's a time and a place for that and not at the expense of the environment. We have paths and bridleways that are easy to follow, with a lot of very hard work involved often by unpaid volunteers, not to mention the expense, yet people don't think of this. When I'm guiding I make a point of educating people on why we should stick to paths and tracks. Walkers coming down the Llanberis Path do it on Snowdon; they head towards Clogwyn, but instead of following the obvious (albeit very eroded) path, they veer off, cross the railway then actually climb over a fence to regain the main track! I've actually asked people to go back here (I used to warden on the mountain) as this fence has been repaired so many times; it's there for a reason :( . I guess people will be people and there will always be those that will never understand the consequences of their actions.

I just returned Home from the Lakes, 09/09/24, and from that walk. Being not used to the area, etc, dropped a huge clanger ! I thought I had topped Little Man and Skiddaw, only to discover that it was just Little Man and the lower cairn. Gutted ! (My legs were dead though, as I had initially walked up Gale Road, to the Car Park at the Top. I don't think I would have made the extra..) Oh Well. 😢

Thanks Abbie. I get a sense of history all around you everywhere you go. In an ancient city you might find some Viking armor or Roman coins along a fence line. In the U. S., things seem a lot more wild, but you wouldn’t expect to see anything much older 200 years or so. Stone tools like arrowheads are sometimes found and petroglyphs are common. There’s no telling how old those are. Maybe it’s a different sense of history for me. Thanks for another nice tour. I hope I get to visit the UK one day. You’re a fine ambassador.

I climbed Skiddaw in 1955 at the age of 13. At that time you reached the start of the climb form Keswick by walking to the end of Spoony Green Lane.. With less fot traffic on the trail there was no maintenance program as there is now. It was a clear day but unfortunately cannot recall the views from the summit that you show. On my way back I regret not going to the top of Little Man which stood out on the skyline with an iron bar in the cairn (I was not aware of the second lesser summit that you mention). I recall long views to the north to Skiddaw House which at that time I think was a shooting lodge and not the hostel it is now. Another clear memory looking north towards Skiddaw House was that the grassy slope descended in well defined steps - the result of solifluction. There were no wire fences in those days and I wonder if their intent is to control the movement of sheep or to keep people out. Lonscale Fell would have been another addition that i omitted. It always looked so tempting and easy to get to from the Skiddaw ridge. Thanks for the video and if anyone has any observations on the above, I would be pleased to read them.

Nice hike Abbey! What a landscape, i was forced to googlemap the location to understand where You hiked. When you walk packed for an overnight, how often do you take rests? Stop and recover, eat etc.?
@AbbieBarnesWILD
@AbbieBarnesWILD 6 жыл бұрын
So great to checked it out on Google Maps! You'll see how much potential the landscape has! When I walk for an overnighter - as in, two days walking, one night sleep - I just stop whenever I feel like it!!! Depends how far I am walking, the weather, on the terrain. Some days Ill bomb up a mountain and chill on the top, others Ill shelter and rest before a summit, others Ill summit and rest on the decent. On trails I really do stop as often as I need. I have a long-term shoulder injury, and on the Coast to Coast this year it was really causing me trouble. I honestly stopped every 20mins to readjust my pack and get comfortable - a must to ensure it didn't worsen. Hope this helps a bit - just take each day as it comes :) Stay WILD! Abbie
