I can barely keep up with watching your productivity and work ethic is amazing with everything you have to manage and accomplish day to day. Thank you for continuing to make informative & entertaining videos 🥺 also I can only imagine how your body must hurt!! My friend in the medical field recently had to do something physically demanding for a patient and couldn’t move the next day. These are amazing tips for your field but I think for work in general. ♥️

I’ve been thinking a lot lately, and I feel like there are so many great careers, like sonography, that will fulfill me, provide for me, etc. without many years of schooling. I definitely don’t ignore that sonography is still going to be challenging and hard, because I’m sure it is! But I’m not sure I want to go to school for so long. Any one else feel this way? I love all the pros of this video the one con that stands out most is the work life balance and scheduling. I am someone who enjoys weekends and holidays, but I feel I can sacrifice in the beginning in order to get a preferred schedule in the future! I do want children in the future and want to have enough time with them
@lolgeselle
@lolgeselle 3 жыл бұрын
It'll definitely be a give and take in the beginning of this process. Many techs are ale to have children and time with them. It's up to you though and where you decide to work. The medical field is very demanding. If you work as a per diem tech you'll have more flexibility with your schedule. If you work for an outpatient place, you'll have better types of shifts and days off. It just ultimately depends where you end up working. Lots of things to think about. Good luck!

Honestly you listing the cons has made me more determined to get into this program. I’ve faced so much verbal and mental abuse in working customer service since I was 18. I’m 25 now and if I must face this abuse I would like to have a livable wage. Working in the healthcare setting as admin for the last two years has made me happy but I want to do more.

I've always judged myself in the past thinking I couldn't go into healthcare because it is too competitive/ expensive/ time consuming or that I just don't have the "magic touch"... despite the vast neverending infinite need for health professionals in society I've learned a lot about myself recently and I am really considering a career path in healthcare.

Totally agree with the appointment times getting smaller as being a negative. Not great for patient care - and also your own health. Big risk of injury to the sonographer. And a risk of missing pathology if you rush a scan. I’ve had 2 severe shoulder injuries. Resulted in 2 operations to my rotator cuff. I now can’t work in that field full time. In Australia it’s getting worse, with private companies offering sonographers a bonus if they scan more than a certain number of patients a day. It’s a worry. Many companies are owned by corporations with people at the top not being medically trained. They only understand money and numbers.
@lolgeselle

@lolgeselle

I mean they should understand the decisions you make as a sonographer. There is an increase awareness, but you ultimately are the one in charge of your body and how far you're willing to go and push for an image on a patient.

Since it is physically demanding, I assume it would be difficult to work if you have physical limitations or have a chronic illness?
@lolgeselle
@lolgeselle 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the physical limitations or chronic illness. Majority of sonographers either stand or sit to scan and could possibly deal with transporting patients in the hospital or moving beds.. and use their arms extensively. Lots of repetitive movements and long term potential injury in the field.
@yooogibare

I'm just curious and hoping you see this comment, but your experience is because you worked in the hospital setting right? Sooo I'm just curious, how many patients on average do you think you handle a day? And if hypothetically i work in a place that's not at a hospital setting, would I not be as overworked then? Thank you for the videos!
@lolgeselle
@lolgeselle 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there!! You can be overworked in both hospital and outpatient settings. It just depends on the company and how busy they are. It can be hit or miss. It can also depend on how many staff members are with you and if you're by yourself. Typically in outpatient you can scan anywhere from 8-12 patients, even more. This goes the same way for hospital settings, even more too depending how busy. :) Thanks for watching!

Nadine, of course! I appreciate you so much for watching and learning! ✨ Pre reqs can take anywhere from a few semesters to a few years. If you plan on going to a community college prior to a sonography program at another college, make sure you talk to both schools’ advisors to see if your credits will transfer! Such as being yelled at not being able to provide the best results and images, then that reflecting into my work in what the radiologist sees. Yes! Many programs only take a certain number of students and usually once a year. The interview process or entry process is really difficult a lot of the times because the candidates are all very similar with probably good/ high GPAs and lots of volunteer work on their resumes so it can be competitive. I know some programs that have waitlists of 2-6 years it's that crazy. BUT, with some research and dedication, anyone can find a program that fits them and is able to get into!

Do sonographers get shift differential pay for nights and weekends like nurses? Also do they get paid for on call? Maybe $5 an hour for being on call?
@lolgeselle
@lolgeselle 2 жыл бұрын
yes most places will offer shift differentials. you can ask the departments, but it depends on where you work. and yes you usually do get paid for on call!

Is the job market hard for this career I live in the city of orange county? But my question overall is there jobs out there that offer full-time or do you have to start part-time first.
@lolgeselle
@lolgeselle 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jackie!! I would hop onto indeed or search for job openings near Orange County to see if there are places hiring. But generally, cities can be hit or miss, very populated or in dire need of techs. My suggestion for you would be to ask on Facebook sonography groups to see if people in those areas will give you some insight! You can get full time depending on what the place is offering. You don't have to start part time or per diem. But it just depends on the place of work and what position/ opening they have available.

And what do you usually talk to patients ? :)
@lolgeselle
@lolgeselle 3 жыл бұрын
Hi!!! Yes, I do! Often times before and after patients or when we have down time, or in passing! I work in a big hospital with multiple rooms and an office. Some places have one or two rooms next to each other and you will see each other the entire time in between patients. Just depends where you work. We do work “alone” while scanning patients but when you have a coworker on your shift as well you will definitely see them and have time to talk!
@lolgeselle

@@요링이 when talking to patients I make sure I get their history and all the information I can get. If it’s an exam where they’re comfortable enough to talk, I talk to them! I just gauge on their personality and talk to them about different things so long as they’re okay with it and it doesn’t interfere with my work. I truly love talking to my patients and getting to know them!

Hi! I'm not sure what the requirements are over in India. You may need to do some additional research. Perhaps you can look up being a foreign exchange student and study abroad in the USA or another country.

Hi! Thank you for your video! Are there any advantages to getting a Bachelor’s Degree over an Associate’s degree for Sonography, such as better pay, more job opportunities, etc?
@lolgeselle
@lolgeselle 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Getting a bachelors may provide you with more job opportunities or higher education like getting your MBA/PA/and higher degrees. Otherwise you typically get paid the same, pay is based on years of experience and cost of living in each city.

Hi!! There's UNLV and CSN in Las Vegas. UNLV is a bachelors degree and CSN is an associates degree. Start by checking out their requirements and see if you can contact a counselor/ advisor! :) Good luck!
