Nothing is easy in life. This is one of the best field with very good living. Study hard, be disciplined, pray God for strength, you will make it. Do not be discouraged at all. As long as you love making someone life better and you love your job that is the most important. As long as I have been living in this earth I haven’t seen a easy job. ❤

Thank you for leaving this comment. You're right nothing is easy in life and your comment finalized my decision (God willing) to do sonography. The way people speak about it makes me fearful of even trying but knowing everything is hard makes me choose this (sonography). 💕

It is a good living if you can mentally and physically handle it. I've been scanning since 2001 and had 2 back surgeries in 2015. I was working in a vascular lab for 16 years where we rotated through 5 settings including 2 hospitals, 2 outpatients, and procedures at a vein center. On top of that, we also had to take call at both hospitals at the same time. Now, I work outpatient in a different town. I have to drive a lot farther, but it's worth it. I physically wouldn't have been able to hold up doing what I was. I actually went there because I was doing general and had been up for 48 hours straight working and with call. I knew that I definitely couldn't handle that.

I just started school, i was nervous that it wouldnt stick as ive jumped around a lot but thankfully i still feel confident in my decision. I do worry about the physical aspect however after working as a cna, construction, & a desk job- all of those have left physical tolls at some point causing me to leave. Im hoping having a stable career will allow for a work/life balance so i can have time to exercise and strengthen my body to prevent injury.

Very good video. When I’m scheduled at the hospital I do 8-10 studies in an 8 hour shift. Today, I was scheduled outpatient and I did 13 echos 😬 At the hospital I work at, we’ve lost about 8 echo techs within the past couple of years due to them being overworked. A lot of them got tired of taking call and then having to work the next morning after call. And pay as well, other places tend to pay more.

Thank you for making these videos. My dad has been a vascular tech in the 80s before there was even a program for it - he learned on the job with a masters in biomedical engineering. He rarely has injuries but being on call, hospital culture (management issues, for one) have taken a toll on him. It's definitely a good career in general but you have to be willing to be in pain everyday or permanently disabled and be unable to work since that's always a risk, plus it is STRESSFUL which for some reason is not widely known. He does scans on young people with brain aneurysms and he finds blood clots that could kill someone at any moment. Missing something could mean that a patient dies. Not for the weak, but anyone who can do it is amazing!!!

hey there, thank you for watching! omgsh I am so thankful for your dad for all that he did and does. it really does take a toll and no one really talks about it. it is stressful and is the reason why I wanted to spread ultrasound awareness to the community and to people who know nothing about ultrasound. it really is a great profession and undervalued but I appreciate you seeing the most amazing things about the career !!!!

I’ve been a cardiac sonographer for about 3 years now. I just applied for a new job and was accepted however I just found out I will be the only one as the other Sonographer will be out on leave for an unknown amount of time. Interested to see how patient load will be every day with it being just me.

I just hate that in the state of Arkansas, sonography programs are very limited here. And then the colleges I have found are 2 hours away from where I live. I'm torn because as soon as I find a career path that I like to pursue, there's no colleges near me. There are a couple of people saying that you can go to a radiologic technologic program first, then pursue Sonography since there's more radiologic programs. So yea!🤷🏽‍♀️

I’m pregnant, have a 4 yr old, and I’m still doing my pre-reqs for my program, I got accepted to one that an hour away (grandmother tells me to not worry bc she would sit in traffic for 2 hours to get to work in Cali) anyways I was wondering, Is it possible for a mother of 1 & 1/2 to finish the program? I wouldn’t start my actual Tech classes until fall of 2025

My program is ridiculous 1 class last a month. Also including that if you have an A in the class and you don’t get a 70% or higher on the lab final you failed the entire course and you get to come back in 8 months, if you choose to

hey there, it really depends on you and the risk you want to take. do some research on the non-caahep school if they are credible and give you the ability to sit for ardms. sometimes you can get in faster/easier than caahep but there is a reason for that and a much more difficult time to sit for the boards, except it isn't impossible either -- I know people who have gone to non caahep and are now sonographers.

Hello! I've been watching your videos and i enjoy watching them! Im going to turn in my application this month but Im not sure which one to go into echo, vascular, or general abdomen obgyn. I feel like i will have a better chance in finding a job with general although im really interested in echo I love learning about the heart but I know I will be in a similar position most of the day reaching with my arm and shoulder. I would also prefer a Monday through Friday schedule full time and after a few years probably do part time because i have scoliosis its not terrible but I do get backaches. I do think I will feel warn out doing this full time for many years which is why I would switch to partime. I live in Maryland and once im done with school in two years I'll probably move to California with my partner. Also its scary with vascular I think what if I miss a clot or something I know i will learn a lot in the program but just thinking about that makes me worry a bit you know! ❤

Hi there! Your plan is very doable. It's awesome!! If you like all of them your best bet is to do a general/vascular program and then learn echo as a certificate. That way you have more options afterwards (this is if you can't find a program that has all three options). This is an achievable goal -- moving to California will be great. Just keep on doing your research. The scary thing with vascular will subside as you get better. That is the least of your problems at this time.. learning how to get where you want to be in the field is the first priority. So many people do it and you can to!! Don't worry for now, just do what you can to get into a good program and the rest will follow. I'm here for you! Thanks for watching :)

Is it easier than being an Emergency Care Tech? I also use to be an EKG Tech and that was easy. My only issue with the medical field can be the bullying and having to just take it sometimes being taken advantage of. I'm deciding whether to do Cardiac or Abdomen. I'm looking for something that will allow me to help children tbh.

You can do peds general or cardiac. I think cardiac takes more skill definitely you learn it on the job not in school.

you can help children with both cardiac and abdomen.. and yeah I totally get the bullying.. if you aren't at a place where you are valued or that you don't like, definitely try to find somewhere else.. but in ultrasound there are great departments to work for! it is much harder than being an EKG tech because you help diagnose, but once you learn its a great and one of the easier fields to be in!
