I just purchased a new 2023 MT09… it’s an absolute riot for just under 11k. I’ve rode a variety of motorcycles and this is my first “light/fast” bike, and this bike is amazing for the street. Plenty of power, great handling, good aftermarket, and reliability! I honestly can’t think of a better motorcycle for your intermediate rider looking to crack up into the sub 450 pound/sub 3.5 second motorcycle. Thank you Yamaha! Fell in love with the brand because of a 1998 Yamaha virago 1100xv

Going to the dealership this weekend to check out a 23 mt-09. They are better looking than the 24 model imo. I dig the smaller screen and the rider position is more upright due to the bars being higher and pegs lower. Only real complaint I heard was if you go for heavy riding or track days you can experience some brake fade in the 23 over the 24 brembo model, how ever I suspect you whack a more solid pair of pads in the fronts and that will be sorted.

I went to Austin for the MotoGP races in April and rented a 2018 XSR900. That engine is ADDICTIVE! While I was there, i took a test ride of a Street Triple RS. I have the 2021 and this is tempting but things like the seat and bars are stuff I like and prefer. Also that with everything they changed, the only parts I’d be able to switch over is the frame sliders and maybe radiator protector. I would probably hold off for the SP for the brakes and suspension. I will say the exhaust is definitely if you’re doing it for the looks. The exhaust gets louder as you break it in. I love the sound and I’m pretty sure if I knew how to mic it up and post a video riding around. Most people would probably think it’s aftermarket

I enjoy your videos and comments very much. As an old fellow myself, I can identify with your thoughts. Everyone talks up SP model because of the improved suspension. Truth be known the base model can provide all the handling abilities ninety percent of riders can use. Most people in the states never really adjust the suspension and when they trade the bike it is the way it left the factory. I have tinkered with my adjustments and found better track handling. I put it back however to the original settings as the rider’s comfort in daily use is way better than track settings.

I looked hard at the MT09/XSR900 before I bought my Z900. It’s got a few more tech goodies over the Z900, but I liked the ergonomics of the Z900 more, it’s more in the bike and a little more leaned forward, more tucked. Both have more than enough power on the freeway but the Z900 definitely has a little more grunt, the power is also a little smoother. The longer swingarm on the Z900 also aids in it feeling more stable at higher speeds. The Z900 needs a tech upgrade though, the MT09 has a 6 axis IMU, cruise control and an up/down quick shifter… the tech doesn’t matter as much to me, but for some it definitely does. I also like Kawasaki’s TFT more, that’s subjective though.

Good suspension and good tyres are what makes a bike great to ride. Throw in a CP3 engine and your golden. I own a first gen MT09 which I almost didn’t buy because of the terrible stock suspension. Now with Hyperpro full spec shock (slow- and high speed compression adjustability) and front springs it is one of the best bikes I’ve ridden. Not just fun but serious carving business. Just like the S23’s from the factory are not as good as the aftermarket S23’s, so is the SP’s Öhlins. The price of having aftermarket suspension set to your weight and riding style installed by a professional, is as about much as the price difference between the standard and SP version.

Interesting. I'm picking mine up today, after six years on two 1290 Super Adv. I just wanted to start over, without the weight and the bulk, even though the (esp latest) SAS are really fine motorbikes. And I was never able to travel as much as I thought I would. I test rode the MT-09 a few weeks ago, and that was it. Funnily, I disagree with all the comments about the SP being worth it, and here is why. First, Yamaha is pushing so hard to make people wanting to buy the SP that there is a catch, of course. They do much more money out of the SP. Now, can you get the same quality out of a regular MT-09 and some aftermarket changes, for less money, without the scale savings? I'm convinced you can... And here is the kicker: I weigh about as much as you do, Chopsy. And the first components to tune, in the suspension department, are the SPRINGS. The SP will have better components, sure, but, as every single Japanese bike, it will be set for a 70 kg rider. Exactly the same as the regular one. So, better damping, yes. Finer control, yes. But way too soft for heavy riders anyway. And, because I know that a lot of people are confused with it, I feel the need to point out that NO, adjusting the preload doesn't change the stiffness of a spring. Those who think otherwise, ask Neevesy. My English is way too bad to do a better job than his, of explaining this. Of course, 'standard' riders will get benefits from the SP. And if they like the colour scheme (I don't), it will be worth the bonus to them. But for a heavy rider? It's a waste of money, because you will always have to respring the thing. Oh, and as for almost everybody here, from what I can read, an R9 might be my end game. Cheers.

I had a 2017 MT09, and just picked up the 24.... Theres a lot to like about the new one but in some ways its worse. The throttle feels worse, and 2nd has been neutered in a silly way. Many reviewers of the latest gen bike create the impression that the previous gen was reasonably flawed. I feel that in the case of the MT09, other than the looks, the criticisms are mostly personal preference and in some cases ignorance (i.e. they just didn't realise that gen 3 also has the feature. E.g. range & fuel consumption). The heart of the bike is the engine, gearbox, chassis and electronics, and nothing has changed on that front. The rider triangle is adjustable on both bike's and the new version just uses the alternative position for the foot pegs and handle bars. The only functional difference is the addition of the maps. While maps are cool they are not really necessary on a sports bike. If you are going touring and needs the maps maybe the Tracer is for you.

I actually like the cyclops eye haha, no complaint, been riding the 22 version since mid 22, fantastic, only possible complaint is that its not a MT10. And ohh no you changed your intro! I liked that old ones musical

Hate sitting upright, wind blows u backwards, the buffeting is horrendous and my back start to get tired after a while. being slightly tilted forward like on the old Ducati streetfighter, new streetfighters at least is a must as it actually helps u when u travel long because the wind will lift u up instead of fight u. have the ktm 950sm and I hate the seating position. Think the new mt09 looks nice comapred to the old one, especially the frame but it kinda looks budget:ish somehow. Almost like it looks like a stamped steel frame that is welded together instead of alu twinspar/deltabox frame. But the bike is so fun, my d675 and my friend st765 felt pure ZzZzZz engine wise compared to this(gen 1 mt09)

The color on your demo bike in the video makes the bike look "Barbie" or "Ken". I know it's the contemporary "in" color pallet but the bike will look dated in a few years. Kudos to Yamaha for all the latest improvements.

As an old man I think I'd buy the Tracer9.

I asked a pervious gen Mt09 sp owner about the bike and how is it. He asked me what bike do I currently have I then pointed at my s1000r and he was like 😂 no need to even look at this bike stick with the s1k. Such a humble dude. He wasn't on that I own one so it's the best bike in the world. Nothing can compare sort of mentality. Admittedly I have a soft spot for the Mt09 however as I'm a spec snob I wouldn't buy anything but an sp though. If I was to down size this would be 1st pick followed by street triple 765 rs. Had the triumph had the Mt09 eminge I'd pick it but I prefer the sound on the mt

Do I buy a 22 MT09SP or a new standard MT09? Both around 10k?

Yes latest version 👍

@@raluxgaza see I can get a 72 plate mt09 with full exhaust, tail tidy and all the extras for under 10k. I’m not keen on the colours of the standard Mt09 but for the new SP your looking at 12k then with exhaust and tail tidy your probably looking at 14k

Thanks Chopsie....Test ride to be booked of this & then SP. I like flickable bikes but not a fan of looping bikes or getting out of shape ...lift control certainly appeals.

Good bike, but won't beat my MT10 (23). But that's a lot of bike for under 10k. I de-catted my mt10, so much better and it's tuned. Bit of pop and bang too.

Why it should? MT10 got another thinks.

Hey, I just got my MT-09 last week and I'm still breaking it in (760km/470mi). Did you (or anyone else) noticed a slight clacking or rattle sound from the engine if you coldstart your bike? It really only epears if the bike is cold and disapears after just a few secounds... I read in forums that's normal because the oil pressure has to build up, but I still feel insecure... I will visit my dealer next week anyway...

If you pull the clutch in does the noise go away. If yes, no concern. If no, perhaps book it in to be checked out.
@alanhall72135 ай бұрын
Agreed... noticeable change in sound on my mt-09 with the clutch in or out.
