When the car charges as fast as this one does low range really doesn't matter at all. Considering over 60% of EVs in the US are Teslas, and given they sell 50% of new EVs now, most is a very inaccurate word. I mean when you factor in the range to see "miles added per hour" this car is among the worst.
@BradleyGibbs6 ай бұрын
@@JonVB-t8l miles per hour is an absolutely meaningless metric seeing as range is variable and dependent on many conditions. Power and percentage per unit time are the only appropriate metrics. And ordered by power, there are at least 19 cars that charge faster than the Ioniq 5n.
@babybirdhome6 ай бұрын
@@BradleyGibbsMiles per hour is what matters on a long road trip where charging speed becomes any kind of a factor at all. It almost doesn’t matter how fast it charges if you’re never exceeding its range, but when you are exceeding its range, how many miles you can go in how much time is one of the two top factors - the other being cost per mile. In the end, this car is not very efficient as an EV, so even if its battery charges quickly, that’s negated by low efficiency. Percentage per unit time is less important than distance per unit time because a small battery can charge 80% in 5 minutes while a huge battery can charge to 50% in 10 minutes, but if that 80% only gets you 50 miles and the 50% gets you 250 miles, those numbers matter a great deal.

Playing back recorded sound from the speaker does not convey how well the sound is during a drive. I recommend giving it a go. The sound is still digital and you can tell by the nuances, but the simulation hits all the right spots so your brain stops focusing on how the sound is made and starts focusing on utilisation for cues and feedback. You will forget it is digital on your first lap on track. Also I kinda like that it has a digital touch to it, brings some nostalgia from good old racing games.

But old Megan RS trophy with half the horsepower and half price is faster around Nurburgring. Type R also, so I don't know what are you talking about... 😄 Probably the drivers were just bad.

@@MrRandomguyTom That's cool but it's true that this N version of the Ioniq 5 with a good driver can do quite well against some ICE cars with good drivers too. Look it up and decide if they were all just bad drivers. I've plenty of videos. Check out Misha Charoudin's Ioniq 5 N video with 2 Ioniq 5 N's racing.

“Evolution” sounds like a dang V12! Pretty freakin cool Other manufacturers doing this with the sound, transmission gear shifts, and feel of an ICE vehicle can definitely make EVs more fun to deive

It's wild that they put so much work into that sound only to have it audibly quantize when revved stationary. It sounds great when it's moving, idk how they botched that one aspect.

Jeremy Clarkson apparently thinks quite highly of it. As a man who hates EV cars, you cannot get much better praise than that. The Petrol Priest. (Look up the article, worth a read) It's a hot EV hatchback. The one we needed. Looks right, feels right, sounds right. Price high put that's to be expected. Who had though Hyundai be making something right like this?

This actually makes Teslas appear boring. This Ionic feels like a cool toy. It's like playing an emulator, but with an actual car. So fun.

Meanwhile every OEM spends millions of dollars on NVH to make their gas cars quieter. Now they’re spending money on making EVs noisier 😂😂😂😂

ICE cars are regulated to be quieter on the outside, but most popular brands would pipe in sound in salon either acustic or digital (Ford uses speakers).

SRSLY.... $69,000? I get it with the hp & acceleration numbers this thing is putting out, but it IS a Hyundai. Plus they seem to be targeting a younger/fun demo with this. A demo that could def. not afford a $70k car. You can get a brand new Porsche 718 Cayman or BMW M3 for that!
@moktafizaman90776 ай бұрын
@yankees6970 But can any of those meet the sheer practicality and versatility of this car? And again, this car's true competitors are in the six-figure margins. Even so, most of them lose against this. This isn't about the brand anymore; you're buying a better car for less. And please stop being a brand snob.

The audio thing could seem just for aesthetic purposes but here in the EU we are currently discussing about the implementation of features like that to emulate the sound signals that gas cars emit and on which drivers rely in their every-day life. It may be an unconscious thing for your brain, but I have actually traveled in front of a Tesla on a highway and I swear, if it wasn't for my obsession of looking at the rear mirrors I wouldn't have noticed that the car was actually proceeding to surpass me. Apart from that - this Hyundai is an astonishing car!

I feel like this is a great way to do a performance EV. Have a very well done combustion imitating mode to give people the sense of a combustion car! Now if an EV could have some sort of true manual mode, that could win some people over!

Marques misspoke when you said at 3:17 "car doesn't charge that fast". It's faster than the Tesla at 10~80% in ~18 minutes. A washroom break, coffee/fast food stop and you should be all set (given you can find a charging station...still need to work on the infrastructure but it's coming along). For most, if you have a charger at home, that would cover the majority of your daily commutes. You can have your gasoline/ICE SUV or minivans for your road trips..
