I noticed one error in the beginning of the Lamian War: At 9:23 you show Krateros being besides Antipatros in Pella when the war broke out. In reality Krateros was still in Asia Minor at this point and couldn’t help the regent immideately. This was the reason why Antipater asked Leonnatos for help who disobeyed Perdikkas and abandoned his Province in order to gain victory and political influence in fighting the rebels in Greece. The guy who actually stayed in Pella after Antipatros left was Sippas who should govern Macedonia in his absence and keep the northern tribes in check. Still a great revisit of this fascinating era you did here 👍

Hey guys I’m the lead animator of this remastered series. As you all know, we’ve made Diadochi series 5 years ago with a few episodes. However, this remastered version will be longer with graphics and animation improvements. I hope you enjoyed it and stay tuned for more episodes to come. As usual here are TW:Rome II mods that we used in this series: -Orbis Terrarum 2 by Celticus -Hellenic Army reskin by Agrez -Divide et Impera Best wishes, ڤمنه ملايو

This is so sick. I remember thinking we needed a major update of these events after the incredible Alexander series, and watching the older ones after I finished, wondering how it all played out but wanting a more direct continuation. Can’t wait for the rest. I remember being fascinated by some of the people involved, for instance the famous Silver Shields. Imagine getting to talk to one of those guys.

I did a research paper on the Wars of the Diadochi 2 years ago and used you old videos as a source. Been thinking we needed an update and now we have one! Also, I'm sure you know this, but Seleucus had a pilar made to talk about his events in the story, so when you get there, that's a source you could use. I believe it was called the Diadochi Chronicle or something like that.

I feel it’s always a very overlooked part of history but it’s importance and outcome changed history in the area for decades ! And it’s wars are legendary on the scales of Alexander’s own . And it’s leaders are some of the coolest and infamous characters in history!. Regardless amazing video like always can’t wait for more !! 👍👍🤞😬

I mean its ancient Game of Thrones: You have his generals: Perdiccas the young and ambitious guy, Antipatros the old regent, Krateros the general beloved by the army, Eumenes the smart little Greek, Antigonos the one eyed Cyclops, Kassander the devious and cruel. But also powerful and influential women: Olympias the kings mother, Cynane the warrior queen, Roxane the widow …
@Kili2807 Жыл бұрын
A great start to the series. However, I think it's a bit of a shame that you didn't show in more detail how Perdikkas managed to end the crisis in the Macedonian army in his favor. How he managed to appease Meleagros with promises and managed to get Arrhidaeus handed over to him for safekeeping. At the army's subsequent purification ritual, Arrhidaeus (probably instructed by Perdikkas) spoke to the assembled soldiers and demanded that the ringleaders of the previous riots be punished. The men were captured, tied up and trampled to death by several elephants in a cruel spectacle. Meleagros, presumably taken completely by surprise by the turn of events, fled but was caught and immediately executed. Perdikkas is often portrayed as arrogant and incompetent, especially because of his reign in the following months, which is probably partly true. Nevertheless, the first days and weeks after Alexander's death show that he was intelligent and ruthless enough to elevate himself to the most powerful position in the empire and yet would have had a chance to establish himself as king in the long term.

Whenever I go to a board game convention the one game I always join is "Successors", a war for Alexander's succession. I wholeheartedly recommend it, one of the best board games I've ever played and it has a huge replayability too since each player controls two random diadochi out of roughtly 11 playable, plus 2 extra diadochi can be unlocked during the game by players lucky enought to draw correct cards. All of this makes each game unique.

By this time Nandas were already overthrown by the mauryas and Greek provinces in india were in disarrey. I think main beneficiary from Alexander's death were Ptolemy and Selucas, who got the most richest provinces. The main victims were the kingdoms of North-western India who became easy prey for the mauryan juggernaut.

Heck yes! The Diadochoi get skipped over or rapidly summarized far too often. Glad to see this series! As I mentioned in another post, the story of the Diadochoi completely outdoes Game of Thrones in scheming, backstabbing, and sheer body count. Not to be too spoiler-y, but virtually every single person mentioned in this video is going to die violently (unless I missed someone, there are only three exceptions who won't). The video even skips over some of the earliest deaths - Roxanna (and presumably Perdikkas) had the Persian princesses previously married to Alexander and Hephaestion murdered so as to not have any rivals (Darius' daughter was rumored to be pregnant by Alexander at the time of his death).

10:22 Betrayals like this in the ancient world are really fascinating to me. Do we have any idea how it occurred? Was it likely coordinated somehow with the Athenians, or would the cavalry have organised it on their own? Could it have been a spur of the moment decision, and if so would it likely have come from their leader or would the bulk of the cavalry follow the lead of the first turncoats like would happen in a rout?
@Kili280710 ай бұрын
I guess there were secret talks before the battle. The motive is obvious: Thessaly tried to gain independence by destroying antipatros and then gain more support among the Greek states who still hesitated to join the rebellion. Macedon was drained of manpower because of the constant reinforcements sent to Asia for Alexander’s campaigns in the east. If they had succeeded in destroying the one army at Lamia and had managed to control the Aegean with their fleet the Macedonian empire would be cut from its European heartland

Alexander was so committed to blending the cultures of east and west that one of the great counterfactuals to ask is "What would things have looked like if he had lived another 20-30 years?" So much of that went right out the window when he died. The Hellenistic world as it happened was quite the mix, but I have a feeling it is nothing in comparison to what might have developed.
@Sp-zj5hw Жыл бұрын
The Hellenistic Age is the Greekhood of mankind. The Greeks were so close to the industrial revolution (Alexandrian steam automata, Syraccusan anti-ship rays, Antikethera mechanism). I will only quote Arthur Clarke: "If the sharp-sightedness of the Greeks had kept pace with their intelligence, then maybe even the Industrial Revolution had begun one thousand years before Columbus. And so, in our era, we would not just try to visit the Moon, but we would already had arrived on other close stars".
