I remember growing up back in the 80's my dad had a Pearson Spoiler hunting bow with 50% holding weight and no back-wall and then Darton came out with the Viper. The first time let-off was invented!! I think it was 65 percent and the first bow to ever shoot 300 fps was the Darton Viper back in 89. My dad bought the Viper it came with beautiful anodized riser, sights, and matching quiver from the factory. Todays compound bows are painted cheep looking. I wish they would bring back anodized risers.

Thanks PJ for your honest opinion and review!!!! I honestly didn't think Darton was still in business because we hear so much about the others! I'm happy for the company. Like with any speed bow you give up stability with these hot bows! Again, thank you

Two points I want to point out. First one reason why it's heavy is the riser is made from a physically heavier alloy than other bows are made from. Second Dartons advertised speeds tend to be close to the real world speeds this 342 is a pretty quick bow.
@MrRay645 Жыл бұрын
AND after weighing a few of my bows (even took the limb dampness out) they come in a bit heaver than advertised.... maybe Darton is just a bit more accurate regarding specs.

Come on PJ! You work in and around a Pro Shop, I think you might have found a 350 grain arrow to shoot through the chrono! I mean yes the bows def fast for the arrow shot and prolly a more realistic number for hunting any big game, but I like to see the bow companies feet held to the flame and keep them honest! It looks like a great bow though.

So honestly I’m not interested in the IBO speed. I want to show the speed from a real arrow that a real bowhunter is likely to shoot. And I use the same arrow for every video.

@@LancasterArcherySupply well, I understand your point of view and not knocking it in any way, your giving real world numbers but for the most part they’re not! - IBO is IBO and if they’re claiming a certain number it should be a standard test for that. You see, they lighten the string w/o a D-loop or peep and test with a shooting machine to get their advertised speed and take everything off the bow that isn’t tied down to get their physical weight. They should all have standard for peep wgt and D-loop wgt for a speed test - as well as all accessories that come with the bow, and a common wgt for the rest to test physical wgt across the industry. To me that would be truth in advertising. Just sayin…

I see some features like the cable guard which reminds me of other companies like Elite or PSE (not sure which) and the included bottom stabilizer weight which looks like something Hoyt bows use, it makes me wonder if Darton licenses different patents to other companies. Perhaps they are now using these licenses for their own bows?
@pinwheel1212 Жыл бұрын
I, too was interested in seeing the bow tested with different weight arrows. Bottom line is with a speed bow that is what guys want, as that is the main focus, right? Anyway, this is a good looking bow except for the cheap decals and no name camos for hunters. Add some nice camo colors and graphics and shave some weight and I think you'd have it all once people figure it out like the target realm are doing right now. Seeing as there are not many reviews yet means not many are out yet I'm assuming. 342 honest speed is a fast bow that most won't do with a comfortable draw and 6" brace height. I think Darton is doing alot of good things. Keep going!

The IBO speed rating is done not by me. I don't use the bow they use for that test.....have a peep sight on my bow which saps a couple FPS, which they wouldn't use..........I don't use the same chrono as them....I don't shoot in the same environment as them. I always list the IBO speed rating because it's on the spec card. Then on some bows - not all of them - I shoot my setup, with a real-world hunting arrow through my chrono. This way, all of my tests are uniform and show realistic bowhunting arrow speeds. We have people who come into the shop with their 450-grain arrow and wonder why they don't get the IBO listed speed. By doing the test our way, we show that hunting arrows won't get you IBO speeds.

If it actually shoots 342 that is faster than any other bow I’m aware of. IBO numbers are highly inflated. Even this year Mathews and Hoyt are 10fps under their advertised IBO speeds.
