Not a good idea stepping over a winch cable under tension.

Hi cptpegg..the winch cable had vitually no load on it when we stepped over it as Beryl had been pulled forward on the handbrake to relieve the pressure but as you say its never a good idea to step over a rope under tension..regards Paul

I would go with a heavier winch bumper I think, not strong enough for the size and weight of landrover/trailer, it was the weakest point, but, it did look like chocolate when you had a snatch on it , I snapped an end off my Mantec,bumper few years back, but it was a 30mph impact, heavier gauge steel though. Hi stephen Hankey...the bumper was defo the weakest point when we examined it later it was quite badly rotten on the back side so Jim has already ordered a new one which is thicker and stronger...and even though i do say so myself Beryl does look good out in the sticks..regards Paul

Couldent you deflate the one tyre a bit on the other side that it moved away from the tree a bit?

Hi gatvol...you could deflate the opposite tyre it might ave moved the trailer from the tree but neither of us had a compressor to hand so the winch is the easy option..regards Paul

I think you need to have a long hard look at your winch safety, as you are doing a fair few things wrong, others will copy you and someone gets hurt or killed! Do as much as you can to not cross "live" lines and keep the camera person away from the danger zones, there is no need for anyone to be in them. I wouldn't be surprised if this video turns up on Facebook and a "what not to do" learning exercise.

Hi Overland ready...there was no one in the danger triangle as it is known as...and when we crossed over the line there was no tension on the line as my land rover had rolled forward and relieved the tension on the line..the only time there was alot of tension on the line i was in the vehicle with my foot on the brake and there no one near the winch line...regards Paul

@@All4Overland That really proves that you have little or no idea about safe winching then. Crossing a "live" rope/cable (connected not necessarily tight) is considered a big no-no, because if something happens that you don't foresee, it can end in a severe injury and possibly more; granted in your situation it is unlikely that anything great will happen, but the next time? The camera person was within 3m on the side of the rope/cable, that IS in the danger area, crossing the rope/cable IS in the danger area! Wrapping the strop around the tree is just bad practice, but I can see why you did it. For info your Land Rover was being pulled forward by the winch, not rolled. Don't make excuses for bad form, make the bad form good. Maybe consider doing a formal certified winch course then come back and say you learned nothing about where danger is.

Hi Overland ready...i have done a certified winch course this is why i can say there was no danger involved in this winching and there was no one within 3m of this winch line and like i said before there was no load on the rope as the truck was not dragged forward it rolled forward as we all know how good land rover handbrakes are as you are only a jafo and we were actually there i can say there was no danger involved as i have been in dangerous winching before now and that is a different ball game.

The steering on a 110 is bad enough never mind towing a trailer you need to give everything a wide birth

Hi shropshire lad...i have never found the steering to be that bad on a 110 but i guess i have just got used to driving them over the years so don't notice it any more...i guess i must automatically compensate for turning radius..regards Paul
