Land Rover - Bulkhead Repairs

Following on from my wing removal video, the first of many videos showing how to repair a Defender bulk head. It's a fairly simple job and only requires basic fabrication skills to do it yourself! Some of my methods in this video are a bit agricultural but it works!

Hi great work, I’ve been doing much the same on my 2001 defender, but I decided to piece bits in and keep as much of the original metal as I can as only certain parts were rotten, I’ve had to fabricate a piece along where the heater hole is and I’m fitting just the lower part of the foot well. I see many people just spot weld I tend to seem weld all the joins, I’m unsure which is the best way to go but seem welding is my personal choice. Yours is rustier than mine. Keep up the good work and you’ve gained a sub🙂👍

Hi, sorry for the late reply,thank you! If you're replacing bits and pieces, on the foot Wells themselves be mindful that it's double skinned so it will rust again, hence why I went hole hog and replaced the hole thing (that and it was all rotten anyway 😅) there should be antoher video up shortly repairing the vent section... Stay tuned 😏

Moz's Mancave Hi I got my foot well sorted yesterday, I did just do the bottom piece but I’m pleased how it came out, that’s the passenger side nearly sorted. I haven’t really inspected the drivers side yet, but I have got to change the steering column as I have a worn bush at the top. A good job but did you not put the reinforcing panel on the inside to give it strength when it bolts to the bracket that attaches to the chassis.

I sure did! Just not on camera as it takes a hell of a long time to film these things. I also didn't film how to position the footwell to inner wing bracket.

It's only the £15 one off ebay! I was quite impressed with it to be fair 🤓 it also swivels and can be used as a swage tool to step edges of material too!

Can yo tell me what welder your using. I’ve got bulkhead and chassis work to do and only got an arc welder. Looking at getting a mig set and yours seems well up for the job. Please share.

Hi mate, my welder is a SIP weldmate 2300mp. It does mig, tig and stick welding all in one. In my opinion a great little machine. Hope this helps 👍🏻

What thickness of matel you used ? Great job btw

Thanks! The repair panels were 1.5mm thick steel, the piece I made was 1mm mild steel 👍🏻

What’s the deal with the forklift battery connector on the seat base?? I haven’t read what all you’ve done to it, is there an electric motor in there as well??

Haha no! It's basically a quick connect for jump leads and or battery charging.... So I don't have to faff about with the seat as the seats are from a range rover. I cut some old jump leads up and fitted an Anderson plug about a foot from one end of the jump leads so I can use them normally or plug into the landy 😁

@@mozsmancave2331 Good stuff! Thank you for the videos. My wife and I decided to buy an 89 ROW 90 off of eBay like idiots. Lol I know sailboats, not Landy’s. Needless to say it was a rolling nightmare but after doing a 200tdi swap and selling my boat I’ve begun repairing the rust damage. Outriggers, footwells and rear crossmember are on the menu. I’m currently dismantling all the bits up front while waiting for new parts. Again, excellent videos and thank you.
