Land Rover - Bulkhead Vent Welding Repair

A short video showing how I have repaired around the vent with out having to buy expensive repair panels, the repair isn't perfect but looks perfectly presentable when the vent is shut. I’m impressed by the straightforward way you attack some pretty gnarly rust holes. Simple tools. Persistence. Attention to detail. I’ve got similar issues on my 67 IIa. This video gives me the confidence to tackle it.

Windscreen surround out, dashboard out.. gotta be done. Otherwise it's kinda shonky/a ballache. After a doing a few, taking the stuff off gets easy. We now just hoik off the screen/dashboard as routine. Often, the wings have to go do one too.

@@mozsmancave2331 To be honest , even spending 50 on a repair panel the result would be no better. Its a very good finished job. Are you using gas shroud or flux core wire ?

@@mozsmancave2331 I sold my Mig as I was out of the country and now I need a new one to repair footwells and wondered if flux core would be good enough. Previously I also used Co2 (pub bottle).

@@awalk5177 flux core is OK to be honest the machine I have does, gas mig, flux core, tig and stick and does each well for a compact machine. If you're going flux core spend the extra money to buy good quality wire as the cheaper ones are useless.

@@mozsmancave2331 So, my outriggers, rear crossmember and footwells are done. I’ve been successful patch welding the front of the bulkhead at the level of the door hinges. Tonight I found out the area behind the windscreen hinge is rotted.... seriously thinking of getting a panel for it. It’s also rotted in the same area in the cab behind the bolts. The screws, when they came out, looked like your bulkhead to chassis screws but worse lol. They were all skinny in the middle. Never ends 😂

Thanks! It's a SIP weldmate 2300mp, it can do flux core welding, gas mig, tig and stick 😁

cover the glass if your working near it , it gets destroyed easier than you think it will.

Did you use welding 0.6 wire or 0.8?

0.8 - I had ordered 0.6 but it was bad quality wire so I kept the 0.8 on.
