LAND ROVER DEFENDER 2014 FULL REVIEW - CAR AND DRIVING

The Land Rover Defender is one of those iconic cars that almost everyone recognises. The first generation version was - visually at least - hardly changed in over half a century of production, though in its latter years, quite a lot was done to update it. Here, we look at the very last first-generation models produced between 2012 and the end of production in 2016, these equipped with a Euro 5-compatible 2.2-litre 122hp diesel engine.

The Toyota Land Cruiser probably not available in the UK at the time was and probably remains the better car. It's a great pity so little was done to improve its seating and reliability. Well maintained this LR has its advocates here in Australia. It is also shameful that its replacement simply doesn't match the values that made this car so popular and is useless when it comes to over landing over long distances, so that Toyota now have virtually no rival. This vehicle will always remain a vehicle of iconic design and admiration and many will be keeping them going here as long as they can and as long as diesel can be bought.

Interesting that the UK military only uses Defenders without any electronics , to ensure they are "nuclear capable". Anything that has a CPU or Engine Management System would be electronically disabled in the event of any nuclear attack. Basically the Defender is a TRUCK, and if you dont want a TRUCK, but want a car, buy something else.
