I've lived in the UK and one of the many things that I don't miss is the corrosion damage that the climate and road de-icing salt damage to the underside of vehicles. The corrosion and general decay on this vehicle is appalling (by Australian standards). If you want a feather soft ride, then get a car. Do we really need all this gadgetry, plumbing, extra weight and expense? I have adjustable shock absorbers on two land rover defenders and have found that to be more than adequate. Good video though for those who have made the decision to deal with all of this.

If you're going to scrap the tank, just drill a hole in it. Releasing tank pressure doesn't make the suspension go down. Grind the locating tang off the rear tank bracket on the old and new tanks.

Great job looks good, does the desiccant need replacing so you don't get water in the new tank

Personally, my top recommendation would be to use copper slip or some form of ant-seize compound on all bolts/threads when resembling. I have a pot of the stuff by me whenever I'm working on my vehicles and have done so for over 35 years, not only can you easily undo things many years later, the nuts and bolts seem to be a lot less prone to coming loose from vibration. Unfortunately, I have never seen even so-called pro garages do this so I end up having to do most the work myself.
@L6634 жыл бұрын
The reason i would encourage people to fix their cars themselves are exactly this.... 1) save money 2) you understand your car better 3) you can clean / use copper grease and check all items while repairing 4) Good for your self esteem... this actually improves your mental health. 5) People who fix cars themselves tend to keep cars longer and buy less new cars.... good for the environment. So i hope my videos help people with their car fixing.

When fitting the new voss conector , you dont need to remove the conector. Just remove the white plug and just push the line in. Tight at maximum 7-10 Nm torque and you are done .

Urrrgh! You should tighten the reducing bush into the tank before you attach the pipe, and the pipe union should pinch the olive down to grip the pipe, now you have wrung it's neck it will not be a sealed joint into the tank, you are lucky it did not twist the plastic pipe off. It might also be a good idea to steam clean the chassis and spray on a good coat of Waxoyl,that will soak into the layer of rust and stop further corrosion, do not think of spaying underseal on a chassis in this condition, it will quietly rust away under the underseal and fail, whereas the Waxoyl soaks into the rust and stops it.

I love your videos but, Why is it that you didn't clean that under car before working on it? It's such a mess.
@L6634 жыл бұрын
Several reasons.... 1) I dont have a decent pressure washer... mine is broken 2) i dont have ramps to get it up to wash underneath 3) I need to get the car safe to drive then its off to the pressure wash !
@alastairroberts68232 жыл бұрын
Should have left the air pipe "small" connector loose within the "big connector to allow it to turn freely and then tighten up the small one at end.

Good video. Wouldn't it have been better to sandblast the underside before putting all these nice new parts on ?
@jonh95614 жыл бұрын
Definitely not, the damage that would cause is unthinkable but a thorough steam clean and the application of some rust converter and ant-corrosion paint/sealant would be an absolute must do job.

Simon, Do not paint with a solid paint type underseal, unless the chassis is sandblasted back to clean metal it will corrode twice as fast as it would in open air, use an oil/wax based waxoyl type spray on, it will halt corrosion, just think what the metalwork is like around the gearbox and axles, like new under the oily crud. And yes, a heavy goods MOT station will point you in the direction of a steam cleaner, all HGVs need it to pass their MOT, and you don't get covered in crud. Chris B.
