Did you ever get a very high estimate from your service shop? Do you think you can trust them?
Replacing the high pressure fuel pump on this LR3 was estimated to be a 4000€ repair with body off.
We show you how we got it fixed for 40€ and some good luck.
Enjoy the video.

My MY 11 Discovery 4 2.7 Ltd was coming up with Gearbox error and causing the vehicle to stop and it needed to be restarted to clear the fault which would come back intermittently In the end we replaced the fuel filter Housing as well as the fuel filter The fuel filter had been replaced many times previously nut not the housing. This solved a problem that had been causing problems since new. The housing was very cheap to replace with the fuel filter. I will replace it every second time I replace the fuel filter.

Excellent video, one comment regarding the volume measurement - I couldnt see that anyone else has mentioned it, but you are not measuring the volume the pump can deliver using your method, you are only measuring the volume that can be delivered through the schrader valve at the system pressure, and add to this you have not stopped any back flow to the tank so you will be missing this also. If you want to measure the volume the pump can deliver then you need to disconnect the low pressure feed to the high pressure pump and measure the flow rate out of this hose.
@Vera_and_Christian

The procedure is out of the LR workshop manual. It needs to be measured this way in order to be able to compare to the LR absolute numbers in the manual. Christian

The noise was still there. I did my own investigation and found it to be the steering column seal where it goes through the firewall. One squirt of silicone fixed the noise!!! I would imagine that as the engine load increases, so does the fuel flow from the pump, and a partially blocked fuel filter would cause the necessary restriction to display a fault. Great troubleshooting Guys (and doggy)
@Vera_and_Christian
@Vera_and_Christian 3 жыл бұрын
Hello JJ, the pump appears to be most used prior start and at low engine RPM. Once the RPM goes up, the high pressure pump sucks the fuel in nearly on its own. I saw this on the pressure gauge because it goes negative. You can actually pull the fuse and the car will still run too. In my world, this is why the fault did not kick in at high loads. It came when basically coasting over the country roads. This is when the fuel pump actually is required to supply fuel to the slow cranking high pressure pump. But I might be completely wrong too.

I changed my fuel filter at 160,000 miles and it was the original.......It was never changed since 2006 .....The fuel filter was $119.00 and was charged $120.00 labor.....So it's pretty expensive service ....Just to change the fuel filter $250.00 US ......Greetings from Arizona !
