It's the Webasto diesel heater starting up that sounds like a turbine. Great job, I bet that was fun in that low temp.

I've got a real soft spot for the old Disco. Vastly better than the later crap lol. But aren't modern engines bloody grim. That tensioner was indeed about to leave the chat so well caught! Great video buddy

Despite the car of the hour not being an old Volvo, I still love learning by you! The jet sounds are really odd. Lol. I wish I could get your help with my dad's dodge van it's so cool but the torque converter is failing and he's just running it into the ground. I appreciate your preventative maintenance videos I have been tinkering with my old Volvo more by your videos!

I had a Webasto pre-heater on my much missed L322. What a brilliant piece of kit - switch it on (remotely) and fifteen minutes later jump into a warm car with the engine up to temp.

When the tensioner is shaking like that its usually the freewheel clutch pulley on the alternator thats siezed up 😊

Anything up to the discovery 4 is fairly decent, a good combination of modern luxury yet not overdosed with complicated electronics, the build quality isn’t too bad either. The later JLR stuff is worth staying well away from though😅

I find it's easier to do that job from below and while the belt is off make sure the alternator pulley (if it a freewheel type) is not seized and if any of the other pulley's need changing. But although I have owned a discovery I never had it longer enough to that job, I was to busy fixing electrical problems. Now I have a Merc, which I did do this job on and is was best to remove the under tray and do it from below and then check all the pulley's every major service. Great job though thanks for sharing.

If you watch LRTIME you will see they use a 4 or 5 foot bar to undo the fan. It has a ridiculous tension spec, considering it has a self-tightening thread orientation and couldn't come loose by itself with just a modest tension.

That jet sound was the parking heater.

I was there once , at the barn …if someone has asked me I would replied that a LR would have been the only appropriate car around for those muddy roads around 😅 but you prove me wrong mate 😅😅😅

I've got a countershaft sprocket bolt that someone insisted was left hand thread. I heaved like a bastard on this bolt and snapped the head off. Now I have to drill it and use extractors and I've never done that before. If I fail it's engine out... Please pray for me

that tapping/ clicking noise is the oil pump, the longer you hear the clicking, you know its soon time for a new oil pump. LTRTIME have great videos on this, esp with the TD 7 SDV6 engine

A plastic mallet on the spanner does the trick to loosen! 😊

The tapping noise first few seconds of running is normal on the tdv6’s. Just the hydraulic lifters whilst it builds oil pressure. Running 5w40 instead of the 5w30 will reduce this, and also a newer spec oil pump both improve oil pressure and quicker build up.

The fan is a left hand thread on those, which is why it wasn’t coming loose.

Everything that's wrong with modern cars encapsulated. Overly complex, no room to work. The cambelt on a redblock is about the same level of difficulty as that aux belt.
@mklaver315 күн бұрын
Absolutely, that’s why I like old cars better. No computer stuff that becomes outdated sooner or later. And just simpler, more tried and tested mechanical tech. Maybe not as efficient, powerful or clean running as new cars, but I can do my own work on it and not worry. More than worth it IMO

They don’t want us to work on our cars as dealerships are losing money, oh wait for the electric era..game over,

Literally a half hour job max, fan is left hand thread and a hit with a chisel would have had it straight off. Diesel heater is the turbine noise, they are amazing
@arttumatilainen49624 күн бұрын
Yea that jet engine is an Webasto. An auxiliary diesel heater for the engine and cabin.

I owned a Disco 2, apart from some weird malfunctions it was fine. But as soon as they become more ‘luxury car’ oriented Discoveries became pretty useless. Good luck with travelling to less developed countries in one of those.
