I agree so much about windows open and acclimatise. So much better to stop and be comfortable-ish than be smashed by the heat change whenever you stop. 👍

Could you please do a video with Paul talking about the pros & cons of an after market turbo in a 1HZ; the safest way to drive it & how to take care of it (I have one in my 2015 single cab 1HZ 79LC). Really enjoyed the video. Big 👍🏾 from Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬

Would like to hear an opinion on the old Land Cruiser HJ61...is it too much of moms Shopping car back in the days? Or a tough offroader as well?

The old 60 series, that's land cruiser royalty. Rougher ride than the 80 series but tough as teak.

I'd be curious to know Paul's opinion on the 200 series Land Cruiser. Obviously a more complex engine than the 1HD variants and thus maybe not as suitable for the most remote travel , but seems like they would be good to consider. Enjoy your videos very much; thank you.

Hi I asked Paul about the 200, should be coming up in a video soon. He said its a great vehicle but the downsides are: Not as much packing space as the 76. The V8 diesel can't handle bad fuel like the Ihz, so not as good for longer trips in Africa. And its more expensive. Depends on your budget, the amount of ppl in the car and destination.

@@Africasideways Looking forward to the video, thanks for your reply. I'm seeing used 200 series in the same price range as used 76's in Australia; I'm wondering if your American clients wouldn't prefer it over the Hilux.
@Africasideways
@Africasideways 4 жыл бұрын
@@darylkizer I've seen Paul make a couple of Hilux for the USA market. Also a lot of 76 for USA clients who want a truck in Africa The 200 is a popular choice for builds in USA, since there is no 70 series.

Interested in the pros and cons of a solid front axle vs IFS. Where I'm from there are plenty of 1HD-FTE 100 series Cruisers, but very few diesel 105s (not a big fan of petrol trucks). What's the feasibility of a solid front axle conversion for an IFS 100 Cruiser? IFS is more complex and more breakable, but is the LC100 IFS reliable enough for Africa trips?
@Africasideways
@Africasideways 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Patrick, good question, I'll add it to my list for Paul. It would not be cheap, but would make it stronger. Having said that, the IFS on the Cruiser is solid. Depends on budget and how much serious offroading you'll be doing vs gravel. If mainly gravel and some offroad then the ifs is fine. Could save the money and upgrade the shocks to BP51s.

How good are your welding and machining skills? Yeah solid front axle swap isn't feasible unless you have your skills up to spec. The front part of the frame was never engineered to support a solid axle and most the torsional rigidity is in the middle section of the frame, precisely the torsion bar mounts. If you do a SFA swap, and do an Africa trip, I can almost guarantee the failure rate would be higher on the solid axle swapped Cruiser.

Hello paul, check out the new baby duramax diesel, what the G. M. engineers had to do to meet engine emmissions to U. S. standards, very complex, do you think it would make it from south africa to north africa and back, love to here your opinion, and really like your vids, thx. Matt in az.

Good question Matt, most of the new tech diesel engines will struggle with poor fuel in Africa, that's why the Ihz is prized.

Africa Sideways this is very common swap on Central America, they call them Toyoland and the usual set up is engine, trans and axles complete. Basically they only leave the body and frame of the rover.

Good morning Emil, The Pajero has IFS so not as strong offroad as some of the solid front axle Land Cruisers like the 80 series. On occasion, Paul turns the trusty Prado 90 into an overland vehicle.

Sorry, I thought you said Prado. I've edited my answer. The Older Pajeros were very strong and good option for overlanding on a budget, the newer ones have more technology and arguably softer.
