Being in the jumpseat behind the pilots, he needed to pull in a little zoom to get a good view of the outside through the windshield. It is the zoomed-in effect that gives a somewhat distorted impression of the approach. Based on the white/red PAPI lights, the approaches were pretty normal, on-glideslope..

Around 1977 or 1978, I had the opportunity to fly with British Airways from Heathrow to Hong Kong, with a layover either in Tehran or Bangkok. The aircraft's eastward trajectory meant that the sunrise persisted for an unusually lengthy period. As an avid photographer, I captured many sunrise pictures from my seat. However, I also desired to immortalize the red-light horizon outside the cockpit, which lacked the presence of the sun. As a young woman, I approached the stewardess with a request to take some pictures from the cockpit. The stewardess then knocked on the cockpit door and communicated my request to the pilot or pilots, whose number escapes me. Nevertheless, I distinctly recall that the pilot was a middle-aged man. He responded that no such request had ever been made throughout his flying career. In the peaceful era of the past, he readily granted my request. Because of the cockpit's spatial limitations, I was unable to stand inside it, so the door remained open throughout my photo session. Alas, the days of peace are now long gone!
