Shitty landlord with a shitty son seems to be a much too common story these days… Based on the fact they themselves *attempted* to clean up the ruble they caused while also being hostile, I wouldn’t bet on them having killer lawyers on retainer (no sufficiently rich, classy, or experienced individual would ever do this). Should be fun to hurt their family ego in court $$$!

I dont see damage.. I see lint, cieling tile dust.. you can vaccuum unless someone took that dust and rubbing into things on purpose to scratch .. Seems shady too.. I bet the landlord said good greef.. entitled one.. thinks its damaged , a simple vaccuum and lt wisk broom.. Just have a professional cleaner to clean up after you do a once over and give that 400 dollar bill. not 20k nonsense. That's awful news, appreciate you sharing. I'm not a small business owner, though a few close friends are and I've helped get their spaces off the ground. It is A LOT of hard work even when things go according to plan, this is magnitudes more effort to deal with. The issue with no win no fee lawyers is that there are still quite high fees. This simply means that if you don't win, they won't charge you the court fees, but still charge all the research fees and everything leading up to the actual case or mediation.

Hi Dan, Sorry to hear about this. Lawsuit does seem to be the best path forward. As long as there isn't asbestos, cleaning hopefully can be most done by blowing air at the furniture and items that high air flow won't damage. The electronics might not be a great candidate for compressed air cleaning but other items may be. Good luck with the aftermath.

I'm pretty sure your ex-landlord was probably committing several crimes and I doubt they ever spoke to a lawyer when they said that they had. These guys are scared of asbestos testing because they probably know that their building is filled with it, so now they're trying to pressure you and shut you up. The moment this happened, you needed to preserve the scene, take as much video footage possible and call a lawyer instantly. The key factor in cases like these is the evidence of damage and preservation of the original scene, and in the case of asbestos - an independant qualified company who deals with asbestos and a subsequent analysis. Note that once asbestos comes into it, your equipment will be regarded as unsafe and you're opening yourself up to a huge can of worms, especially items with material that can absorb particles ie. chairs, rugs, etc - which still holds true when you move as they can contaminate the next location they move to. I think you really jumped the gun and made some bad decisions, my inclination would be to try and leave it alone and move on.

"IF" there is asbestos that has fallen into your possessions, hopefully you did not move it into the new space wiithout first having it tested. Asbestos abatement done right costs a lot of money. That is why I don't buy old properties due to that, lead and other issues. I shall presume that you are insured for personal property damage.
