The title Landnama comes from The Landnámabók, the icelandic book of settlements that chronicles the settlement of Iceland starting in the 9th century including the names and genealogy of the settlers.

The "island" on the map at the beginning is actually Iceland. So each run seems to be a landing at a difference place in Iceland. The "dramatic peninsula" landing is quite close to Reykjavik.

that'd be bc 'Landnama' is almost 100% certainly inspired by the Landnámabók, often refered to as Landnáma, which is a medieval Icelandic work describing the settlement of Iceland by the norse in great detail

If you whack the turkey breast in the oven to keep warm, tip out all but a thin film of butter, then add some cream (and a tiny dash of soy sauce if you want it saltier), then reduce whilst constantly scraping the bottom of the skillet, you'll have yourself a tasty gravy that always matches the flavour of what you cook

Just FYI, that first letter in "þorr" is a "thorn" character, not a "p". It's one of our great lost bits of alphabet and is pronounced "th". At some point after fonts became a thing it was common to use a "y" character instead of a thorn, which is where we get signs like "Ye Olde Shoppe" that really just say "The Old Shop".

It's the 5D chess he does regularly. He's even commented on it on one of his videos a few months back. People think he's playing games wrong to ragebait people into buying ( and supporting ) indie games to prove they can be the better gamer. I think he's figured that it works and has started to go out of his way to play it wrong. TLDR It's all a psyop, support small business.

Just played the demo (not as extensive as what Splatt is playing, it only goes for 4 winters), and the winter progression is a bit crazy. That could be due to the fact that it is a demo and none of the post-run progression is there, but it is something for the developers to consider if neither of those things are already taken into account for final balancing.

In order to successfully settle, you need to find the win-con tile and make your settlement max rank. A couple things I noticed that would of helped you was building an early marketplace (1 heart per 5 heart surplus) and building your settlement up earlier.

Hey Splat! As a person who professes so much enthusiasm about the vikings, how do you not recognise a Thorrir rune in the name of the clan. So it's not Porr, it's Thorr. :D That letter is the origin of the English "th" sound. Loved the video though. 😄 Also, the region map is more than a little reminiscent of Iceland.

When selecting the clans - the thorn, þ, is pronounced like a choppy TH. Like you bring your tongue to your front teeth, but instead of breathing through it to go thhh, you make all the sound with a breath that separates tongue and teeth, similar to how it works with the roof of your mouth for a T

Also, Vegvisir being called a 'magical stave' doesn't mean it in the context of like, a wooden staff. Icelandic folk magic (the map is Iceland) has many Rune Staves, called such because they were originally carved on, sticks and staves. But in that context, 'magical stave' refers moreso to the symbol itself, rather than what it's carved on.

@@sonderland-games Err, "mismatched" was the wrong word. I enjoy the look and style of the other icons on the card headers, but the question marks seem a bit out of place, especially when the event isn't necessarily a question. I'm sure they could still work fine, like the Chance cards in Monopoly, but maybe a holding shape would help them hold space better? Hopefully that clarifies my critique, as minor as it is :) Keep up the great work!
