Thanks for the video. Even if I had a small budget, I would not get this between the disconnects and it being older tech. It would be worth budgeting for a better brand.

Out of curiosity, have you ever had to change any firewall settings etc with these budget mesh wi-fi systems? I just bought a Tenda MW12 system to replace my previous MW6 system, both can be called budget, but the MW12 is tri-band WiFi 5 as opposed to the dual-band in the MW6 system. I thought I should upgrade seeing as I was going from a 50/10 to 900/110 internet plan. However, I am barely getting 250/110 on the primary mesh router (in all possible modes, i.e. PPPoE, bridge and DHCP). I've tried this on my phone (OP6, which is 2x2 MIMO) and my sisters iPhone 12, which is 4x4 MIMO, and get around those numbers. I can't compare it to my MW6 system, as I gave those cubes to my brother-in-law. I found a german review online that showed 600 down from the primary router, so I'm wondering whether I need to send these back and get a replacement system.

No I haven't messed with the firewall settings. Was the 600 down from a local speed test server or a public speed test server? I believe it can do local but maybe not the public like this Vilo. The Tenda looks to be a WiFi 5 router so you're not going to get the benefit of WiFi 6 which the iPhone 12 has. If you don't mind spending a few extra bucks, I would recommend either the TP Link Deco X60 or the TP Link Deco X68 both great choices considering the price. I feel like you can probably get to the 600's with these. I think the iPhone 12 is a 2x2 MIMO for WiFi 6 (www.apple.com/iphone-12/specs/) so it's hard for it get over 700Mbps on a public speed test server, it can get to around gigabit on a local speed test server with the ASUS ET8. If you want to go all out, then go with the ASUS ET8, if you get a WiFi 6E device like the Samsung S21 Ultra, you can get over 800 easily. All of these are for public speed tests to the internet like speedtest.net

@@landpet Thanks man, I understand now. Yeah I think it was from a local server (the German review).

Plz fella I wrote a question yesterday i watch you that's why I'm asking you know your stuff. I'm looking to use my modem/router with a better router I'm going to switch the modem/router to modem only and then use a better router. I'm knot very tech savy so would really appreciate it if you could advise me too what's best a wifi6 normal router or mesh Thank you 👌👍

I'll give you a few but it really depends if you're going to use wireless backhaul or wired backhaul and how big your place is and how fast your internet is. It's hard to give a general answer because of all the conditions. I will say for wired backhaul, a good one is the TP Link Deco X20. For wireless backhaul a good one is the eero Pro 6 or ASUS ET8. Again these are just general recommendations.

After reaching the end of the video, this router was provided by my IP here in Puerto Rico. My IP gives me 100mbps down 20mbps up. When everything is working, i can stream straight from my ps4 no issues, i use ethernet cable straight to my ps4 cat 6 but it does go out and comes back during these times, btw 12am-4am and sometimes at 5pm. Any suggestions? Haven't used the app and haven't checked for a firmware update.

Would you recommend this over the modem that Xfinity provides?
@landpet
@landpet 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t know what xfinity provides but I can’t recommended this until they resolve the dropping issue. Maybe they have already, I haven’t ran it since the test but if it’s not resolved I would just use the xfinity if those are your two choices. There are other options like the tp link deco x20, meshforce m3s or a simple router like the tp link ax21. I have videos on these if you’re interested.

Great review. I appreciate it's 6monrhs since you did this review but you say budget system....it's.$180 on Amazon as I write this. Anyways I'm looking for a mesh system with 3 satellites that's including the one you use as the main one. So I don't know if you've reviewed the Tenda mesh set up but it's got great reviews and that's cheaper. Anyway knot your fault how much things are. I just wanted some advice plz if you would..do you think a good mesh system is better than a wifi 6 ax mu mimo beamforming normal router i can't make my mind up???. But i wouldn't pay what some are asking without prior knowledge. If you could advise please 🙏

At the time I tested this it was far less but prices do change. I haven't used this since so I don't know if the dropping issue was ever resolved. I haven't tried the Tenda but in my other response to you I suggested the Deco X20 for wired backhaul and eero Pro 6 or ASUS ET8 for the wireless backhaul. Granted these are general recommendations, it's hard to guess without knowing more info.

Is it true that dual band mesh systems cut your isp speed in half because of the required backbone connections?
@landpet
@landpet 3 жыл бұрын
Typically the dual band mesh systems cut about half the speed for the secondary mesh devices (primary router should be fast) from what I've seen on wireless backhaul, this problem doesn't exist when using wired backhaul.

To stay within budget: Wireless Backhaul: TP Link Deco X68, eero Pro 6 (sometimes on sale to be within budget) or Netgear Orbi RBK752 (sometimes on sale to be within budget) Wired Backhaul: TP Link Deco X60 Eero Pro 6 and Orbi are about the same performance; Orbi is a little faster and eero Pro 6 gets slightly more range Deco X68 is not as fast as the above two but not too far behind. This is the best deal for what you get. Deco X60 is a great deal for wired backhaul. Best bang per buck is the TP Link Deco X68 Best Performance is the ASUS ET8 Hope this helps

Vilo sucks. Parental controls suck, it keeps losing its settings, DHCP reservations suck, Vilo just gives the reserved IP address away, it keeps reassigning IP addresses all the time. Don't buy this junk.
