We put Erik's 1976 Range Rover Classic V8 Petrol up against my Land Rover Discovery 3 TDV6 Diesel. This is our biggest and toughest 4x4 off-road challenge yet!
You are joining us as we head into the Tricky Track in Elvedalen Off-Road area.
Which car do you think will do the best, watch it and let us know in the comments. I think they both did very well, but you will have to watch and see.

Truly enjoyed your video and your team work. The RR Classic with coils and solid axles performance makes one question why they stopped building it. I'm still puzzled why you chose "Snow" mode when lower gearing is what you really wanted? As Eric showed us, 2nd gear, low range and go as slow as possible and as fast as necessary. Thanks again!
@LandRoverDrive
@LandRoverDrive 9 ай бұрын
Yeah, I forced it down manually, is just starts in third when you have it in auto. 👍 But you can see me keep forgetting after being out of the car so I have to change down a bunch of times. The throttle response is cut in half when using snow mode so on these rocky sections on the entrytrack it’s perfect. Changed into rock crawl to get full lockup on the center diff when I started up the tricky part. And mostly first gear. 😊 That’s why you can hear the car revs juggle up the rocky sections. 😊 Glad you liked the video and we do have a lot of fun when we head out, and we do know each other well so the communication is effortless. 👍😊

Before going off-road: detach the plow :D And try to be more patient and insistent, as you stated yourself. More steady on the gas, let the TC kick it more often and do its job. Nevertheless, wet/muddy rocks are the worst besides (wet) grass. But isn't it wonderful to do all that stuff and have the most comfortable drive home of all of them? I love my LR3.

Hehehe, I need to address the plow, wouldn’t feel so much as a tractor though. 😂😂 I was a bit rusty when it came to driving off-road and looking back while editing I can only guess I was a bit impatient. 😊 Need to get out and test it more, will try and do a winter test this winter. 👍 And I couldn’t agree more, in Norway we got so much tarmac so doing the transport stages is a dream in the D3. 👌 It will never be sold, only scrapped. 🤙

Traction control is there purely to make up for less suspension travel AND LR reluctance to fit axle locks. The latest cars, optimised for road use, would be abysmal without TC. Off road, old school make continuous progress, whereas the current cars, spin wheels, stop, think about it, apply TC, move a bit, spin, repeat. I prefer old school, not the modern Luxobarge stuff which need so many computers to do an inferior job off road
@LandRoverDrive
@LandRoverDrive 9 ай бұрын
I also prefer the old school off-road but I find the Discovery being a perfect middle way, good off-road and amazing for overlanding and as a family car. 👍😊 You got a rear locker on the D3, but it’s an optional extra. Mine is sadly without, but since I primarily go overlanding it will do without. 👍 But I will be looking into a old school 4x4, and a old Classic is high on the list. 😉

Other than that it's stock as can be, no lockers or nothing. He has been driving offroad with his Cooper Tire STT PRO, mud-terrains that has proven them selfs in both in deep snow and mud. If you check out the older winter videos you can see how that went. 👍 The tires are 215/85R16 - We don't recommend them for winter use, only in deep snow off-road. 😉 Do you have an RRC your self or just very interested in them? Thank you@@erikiversen4497 I really like the height and tyres on your classic. I want to do the same on my 84 classic. I appreciate you sharing your measurements.

Why did you sell the Land Rover Defender?
@LandRoverDrive
@LandRoverDrive 9 ай бұрын
I thought it was the right thing to do as it was so much work to get it fixed and I wanted to be out overlanding and not stuck in the garage welding rust. 😅 I wouldn’t have sold it today, would have kept it and waited for when I got the time I think. But the positive side is that I’m open to get a different old car, almost bought one some days ago. If you see the community page you can see which one. 😊

Hmm was the Disco in Rock Crawl mode during the tricky parts?
@LandRoverDrive
@LandRoverDrive 9 ай бұрын
Yeah, was using rock crawl at some stages to get the center diff to keep the lockup. 👍😊

@@LandRoverDrive Yup, Rock Crawl also has the most aggressive traction control too. It's very prominent on my Defender too even though I have the active rear locking diff. 👍

@@hege750 Okay, didn’t know that it also affected the TC, learned something new today as well, thanks. But that’s logical, but haven’t really thought about it the way. 🤓 I would love a rear locking diff for this kind of driving but I’m mostly going overlanding so can’t really justify the cost.

Hey and sorry for that, we don’t do it on purpose and there is no meaning in it from our part. I think it’s just a lack of English vocabulary and nothing else. 😊 I thought about cutting it out from the video but felt it took away from the feeling that were had during the drive. Again, sorry, and we will do our best to not do it again. 😊 Simon
