Brendan van Son Thank you for showing me some amazing scenery. Australia has plenty as well, but as Canada is on my bucket list, it's just so much more interesting to see your work And the places I hope some day to photograph myself. Cheers from down under.

Love your photography and your videos! So I am getting married at ELL in Sept (2020) ..our choices for ceremony were 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm...so we are shooting photos from 5 to 8 pm....in your opinion will we get some great shots (given what you said about the mountains and light) ..or should we switch it to 3:30 pm instead (and shoot from 3 to 6 pm)?? I know most photographers do NOT like bright sunny days! .... thanks for your input!

I don't normally comment, but Jodie jumping on you from the table was hilarious. Great timing. And yes, seeing lots of people overwhelming a popular spot can be frustrating, but using it as motivation to find those "other" spots is the way to turn a frustration into a positive thing.

Nice video - really enjoyed it. The mountains around here are so full of iconic shots that I understand your comments about trying to find a "new" spot. Someone once said (and I apologize that I don't know who it was) - "If you've never taken a picture there - then it's new to you". I think this is important advice. Spirit Island, Lake Louise, Banff Springs from Tunnel Mountain. They have all been photographed so many times and you can even buy the postcard - but the joy of photography is getting YOUR shot. Learning how to get better shots. Personally, I'm no great photographer and consider myself in the "mimic" stage of learning. I try to capture the same shot that a skilled photographer captured so that I understand the principles. Your foreground "object of interest" is something I will certainly use. Another KZbinr (Thomas Heaton) has completely gotten me into Lee Filters. Thank you for the great videos.

Hi Brendan, great channel, I've subscribed after the Thomas Heaton episode, I love your videos and am fascinated by how you make a living travelling.I watched the Q&A after the live session had ended, so couldn't comment on that video, but I was thinking, one of your first questions asked was about using an interim for b-roll footage, and I thought there would surely be people who watch your videos who have an interest in photography and video who would be more than happy to join you and shoot some footage for you. I certainly would if you came back to the UK.Just a thought. Keep up the good work with the channel, the Canadian Rockies look fantastic, now on my bucket list. Peace.

Another tip to keep your lens at ideal sharpness keep the aperture at a lower number and take multiple shots. Bring it into Photoshop, put the shots into a smart object and then change the blend mode for the smart object as "mean" (under the layer tab up top)... you get the same effect as the long exposure. From there I'll sometimes double up the smart object and change the second one to median (which gives you the advantage of lower noise)... Mask in the mean for sky and water (applying noise reduction wont matter since those things are usually "soft" anyways) and then the median is used to edit the landscape/cityscape since you can push it a little further. Seems complicated but most of the time spent is really waiting for the smart object stack to be created which is a good time to walk away and do something else for a few minutes. After that the masking is a couple minutes.

Great video, really like the compositions you got in the end. Just discovered your videos as i visited the Banff, Jasper and Yoho for the first time recently, probably at the same week you were there due to the weather around Vancouver. What's the music used in the video please?

Was just in Jasper this past week for some photography. Fairly quiet at good locations during sunset/sunrise. Definitely better going during shoulder seasons.

Hey Brendan, been catching up on your videos as I'd been on vacation and haven't been able to watch. I also had taken some photos near a waterfall on my vacation and there was quite a bit of wind which made some of the trees blurred. I wanted to choose the soft water over blurred trees so I used the longer exposure. My question is this: will your clients and/or stock agencies still accept photos that might have blurring in the trees due to wind?
@BrendanvanSon7 жыл бұрын
If it's wind related, and obviously so, then it's totally fine. As long as the rest of the image is sharp (the mountains, the rock, etc.) they'll know it was from the wind.
I love Yoho national park and Emerald lake is definitely one of my favourite spots in the rockies!! I have shot Emerald from almost the same location maybe a few meters farther in a horizontal crop and on a relatively cold and stormy day :- )

You should do one of your photo tours in the Canadian Rockies. lets face it the Canadian Rockies are one of the most beautiful places in the world. The Icefields Parkway from Lake Louise to Jasper imagine the possibilities an area untouched by photographers hahaha
@BrendanvanSon7 жыл бұрын
+phynx2006 there are too many logistic and licensing issues with running trips in the National Parks, unfortunately. Might look into it at some point, though.

Hey Brendan I enjoy the videos. It's nice to see the Canadian Rockies again. My only comment is that the reflection in the water is far too bright compared to the sky itself. It is not natural for the light of the reflection to be so much brighter than the source of the light itself. The reflection, if anything, should be darker.

i guess the rocks/something on the foreground are a personal choice, but i think they take your eyes from the main subject. I want to look at the lake, house and mountains, but the rocks bring me back. I think they are taking away from your composition.

I wish I could convince you that your hat is undermining your message. Shallow, yes but it is true. Your career is taking off but you need to watch your videos from the perspective of your viewers.
@BrendanvanSon7 жыл бұрын
+Fresno1199 super shallow. And, I actually think you are wrong. The hat is something that helps define my "character". I appreciate the feedback, but I wish we could live in a world where people didn't judge each other by how they dress or look, tbh. This is a non-judgemental community.
@Fresno11997 жыл бұрын
Brendan van Son Okay, so are committed to the backward cap thing. Just don't ignore advice (which I admit, could be wrong) from a friend who is pulling for you to succeed. You are sponsored by a fashion company, appearance counts for them.
