LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY IN DENMARK - Behind the scenes | Last chance for photographing the autumn

I find landscape photography quite challenging, but if I want to get some photos of the beautiful autumn colours in the Danish forest this year, it is probably my last chance.
I am in the local forest and since my Tamron 150-600mm is getting repaired, I am bringing my Nikon 70-300mm which turned out to be an excellent choice.
So yeah, join me behind the scenes on some landscape photography on this wonderful day in the forest of Denmark.

Again, I swear if you made a video of paint drying or grass growing I for one would watch it (even the second time around;) ) In all seriousness the mood of those foggy woods is wonderful. Nothing is better than a foggy autumn hike in the woods, except perhaps when followed by a nice campfire. And the fog makes those woods timeless...like getting lost in history. You have indeed quite the spot there.
@MortenHilmer

Haha - paint drying 😂😀 You are absolutely right about these woods. There is definitely something timeless over them. Just walking in the mist letting the thoughts travel.. It is so simple but yet so fantastic

This might be one of the most beautiful things in life someone can do, just walking 'endlessly' in nature looking for those instances of beauty and aesthetic like a kid looking for hidden treasures everwhere. It can be anything from a wide sweeping landscape to a tiny detail.

I absolutely love Lego and nerf, I have spent almost every dime I have on Lego and nerf ever since I was 6. But when I found this channel I was like "why the heck am I spending all this money on plastic?!?" So I took the money I had and bought a used camera. The camera I have is old and not very good but I have gotten some photos that turned out well. I took it one step further. I sold all but 3 of my Lego sets, all my nerf guns and even my camera, tomorrow I am going to the camera store to buy my first brand new semi pro camera

Hi Morten, I watch all of your vlogs, and enjoy them, thank you. I notice you have a Canon 1Ds/1Dx, I couldn't afford one of those, but did buy a secondhand 1D Mk III, crop sensor but EF mount. Would that be any good for wildlife photography? I do have a Sigma 150-500 lens. But have hardly used it as I don't drive and can't get to the many places in the Scottish highlands where I now live. Do I sell it because I don't use it, or get my head around my travel restrictions and try to use it? Also, can I ask you one question please. When you're doing your pieces to video, and I understand 100% why you have to whisper, but is there any chance you could boost your audio so I can hear what you're sayin, or subtitle it? I turn up the volume to try and hear you, and then upset the neighbours with the very relatively loud music in your videos.. I look forward to your reply.

I’ve sometimes gone out and came home without taking a single photo. I also started carrying my other camera (Fuji X100s) around in it’s small shoulder bag. Sometimes I see something “nice” but don’t deem it worth taking off the rucksack, setting up the tripod, getting the camera out, fiddling with filters etc. That way I can still take a decent raw image without the effort. I’ve often come home happier with the off the cuff shots from the Fuji than the proper photographs I took with my Nikon. Not a comment on the relative quality of the cameras, just that you never know what will look good on your monitor that night.

Would you consider a 70-300 on a canon 1dmkiii a good starting point for wildlife? It’s all I can afford and the longest zoom I believe it works out effective length 295mm with the crop of the 1dmkiii but that’s with 10fps and a good auto focus system.

Nice video. Well presented, with emphasis on both the photographic process and the whole atmosphere of walking in a woodland during autumn, trying to find something worth photographing. Not just firing off hundreds of images without much thought going into composition and technique. My only criticism is that the intro is a bit long. I was wondering if or when Morten would actually say anything. I live in DK, Morten. Where was the forest you were walking?

Beautiful photos, Morten! I love foggy days, just being out and breathing that cool fresh air is so refreshing to the soul. I'd also like to experiment some time with a slow shutter, moving the camera for motion in the photo, it looks a bit tricky!
@MortenHilmer
@MortenHilmer 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot Liesl. Yes you should definitely do that. No it is not tricky you just have to play. First find the perfect exposure and see if you can make it at least 5 seconds by adjusting aperture and ISO (you can always add an ND-filfer). If it is faster than 5 seconds it is hard to controll the still vs movement. Then try first to leave the camera in place for 3-4 seconds and then move it the rest of the exposure time. An yeah then it is just to play 😀
