@@InTheSh8 Fuck all that downloadable amp sim and digital effects computer nerd shit - I just want a simple small amp that gets a good clean tone and a good heavy tone. The original Roland Cube blew the Katana away - they had more amp models and more effects, all for only $100. Now they're like $150 and have less features, and also aren't battery powered. @@InTheSh8 I have a Katana 50 and it's a pretty nice amp. My only complaint is that the clean channel isn't the best, but it's also a $230 amp. However, after reading through comments, I learned that some people use the acoustic channel as a clean channel. Tried it and the clean tone is much better and there's also a slight break-up when playing with more pick attack. I didn't much care for the onboard chorus effects, so I bought a Boss Super Chorus pedal and it makes my clean tone sound really dreamy. The amp itself really chugs and is very loud, too.

@@ErikAnders James Brown is his name, he worked for Kustom for awhile too. Now he runs Amptweaker. There's a few different Peavey Bandits, I've got the Solo Series Bandit 65. It sounds quite a bit like a VTM. The newer ones have more gain and are tighter and maybe smoother sounding as well, more like a 5150. As far as I know the VTM was his first amp he designed for Peavey, in some ways it was their attempt at a Soldano-ish sounding amp. The 5150 was basically just a hot-rodded VTM. James Brown mentioned that the AmpTweaker TightMetal is derived from the old Ampeg VH-140 preamp. Apparently the VH-140 has nearly the same frequency response as the 5150 but came out before the 5150. All my favourite amps are rip-offs of each other.

It's cool from the design point of view. The several small hifi-speakers look derivative of mobile/smartphone external speakers. It's a better solution at this size than having usually one farty little 4-5 inch speaker trying to handle all the frequencies. Also the way the they're powered might account for the weird power supply, though its weirder still that they didn't supply one. It's a cool toy or a lightweight practice solution you could fit in a suit case, but in that sense the guitar would still just as inconvenient to travel with. Either way, it's the best sounding mini stack I've heard so far.
