Ashlee, I'm not sure if you'll ever see this on such an old video, but I have my youngest coming up in first next year. THANK YOU a million times again for the dedication on your channel over all these years and showing a full lesson and just how kind/encouraging you are (then and now!).

Love this! What a beautiful moment of mother/daughter instruction. She is absolutely precious! She behaves just as a little girl ought-fidgety but respectful, determined but joyful, imaginative but focused. It’s a testament to her good upbringing. “You should be proud of yourself.” “Well I’m not.” Lol! And that face! Thank you for showing us a lesson and one way homeschool can look. Looking forward to using TGTB this year!

Aww...this is so sweet!...I looked and search for something like this when I first started teaching my boys to read and there just wasn't anything. She did so amazing and she should be super proud of herself. My boys sounded and did the same thing she does as she reads, but since I hadn't ever taught anyone to read and quite honestly wasn't super at it myself and never learned phonics. I was so worried that my kids weren't reading well, but it was only because I just didn't know this was part of the process. Our reading lessons go pretty much just like this only with a different curriculum. I believe this video will be so helpful to new homeschooling moms especially ones like me when I first started out. In fact I was so concerned about them learning to read well that I had them do 2 different phonics programs and now I'm having them do TG&TB as a review. I guess I felt so short changed in public school and struggled with reading my whole life that I'm make sure my boys have the basics down pat. Wow! I really wish I could've seen something like this when I first started out!! Your amazing way to do mama! I wish I could give this a million likes!

I helped me to see you and your daughter do a lesson. It helped me to realize that we are doing good! My 6 year old daughter tries to guess at the words sometimes too, lol. She tries to guess what the story is about. She also likes dictation, but not so much the reading part. But she LOVES to be read to. I set the timer without her knowing, because she makes more mistakes if she knows the timer is going. But I was glad to hear that your little one was disappointed with her efforts, because my daughter does the same thing! It makes me feel like I was doing something wrong! But I suppose a lot of children may feel that way. My daughter seems to get frustrated easily. She wants to read "like I do" right now! I tell her that it takes lots of practice. Thank you for sharing this video, it was helpful for me. Now I think I will show it to my daughter so she can see that she is doing really good and I think it will encourage her too!

This video is motivation right now. Thank you for have a level one day. I know this is old. I noticed at the beginning of the reading she "made up" the words. My daughter has a bad time about slowing down and not guessing the words. Did you have this happen with any of your kids? If so, how did you over come it? Quick question from a first time homeschool mama...since you have used both the Sonlight and The Good and The Beautiful curriculum, what would you recommend for my situation? I have 4 children (ages 7, 6, 3 and 2) with a baby arriving in September. I also work for a company from a laptop in my living room about 10-15 hours per week. My husband works full time out of the home. I am looking for a curriculum that is Christian based in every aspect but that also isn't super parent intensive. Which one do you think we should try for our first year?
