Also, I think the term "Cultural Genocide" which had been frequently used by a Turkish professor plays a huge role in this issue. Some countries are trying to gain political advantage by replacing the official languages ​​of other countries with their own using social manipulation and making these countries' education language their own language. Hello! In short, in Transformational Grammar, "deep structure" represents a hypothesized primary layer that, through generative grammar "rules", transforms into a "surface structure". For example, if I remember correctly, passive constructions such as "The ball was hit by John" (Generative linguists may call this utterance the "Surface Structure") emerge as the result of a rule/rules that transform the deep structure "John hit the ball", which uses the active voice. Anyhow, I know there are several videos on this topic on KZbin, so I would encourage you to check those out.

It may be difficult for most people (even those with linguistics training) to actually do something (in the way of language preservation or revitalization), but I think there are little things that people can do everyday to normalize linguistic diversity. For example, when traveling or speaking to people in a place where English is not the primary language used by people, I try to use the local language spoken there--even if it just a few words/stock phrases.
